i'm really sorry to hear about that rough ride you're having at the moment!

Alto will correct me if I'm wrong but if there is an adjusting reaction to liquid, it usually start immediately when you start taking it and gradually goes away not the other way round as seems to be your case...

When did you start feeling the increase in symptoms? You are not making your own liquid? (sometimes people who do accidentally make a mistake...)

i'm sure will get to the bottom of this.

And please don't beat yourself about xanax. I think you mentioned taking magnesium? Just have it ready (i remembered now when you ordered it from the mainland ;) also, when anxiety strikes, focus on your breathing, become aware of it and follow it through your nostrils and into the lungs and back without trying to change it.

You've come a long way and I'm sure it's just a bump on the road.

How much of the liquid are you taking? How are you measuring it?

Good morning Alto im taking 2.5 mg and measuring it with a 5ml syringe. I have been feeling not so great since I started the liquid. It seems to be building a little more each day. Last night I was tired I slept from 6.30 to 5 this morning just feeling a lot of turmoil in side I havent changed any thing for meds. I have been tired lately im fine during the day but I take 200 mg magnesium at 6 in the after noon and by 7.30 or 8 I cant keep my eyes open .the night befor last I had bad anxiety threw the day and I went to bed and kept drifting off and waking up with the terrible dread that I was dying which I new I wasnt but it was more than I could handle. It seems like for me my with drawl symptoms hit between 4and 6 weeks. I thought about uping my magnesium. Im taking 200mg in the morning and 200 mg at night. I just dont know I cant see it being a problem from xanax I have taken 4 mg in the last two months. But it must be with drawl from something my ears are constantly ringing now im dizzy I cant stop thinking about all the things that have gone on in the last two years and how I was feeling at that time and that is not a great thing. I miss my family who is not with me any more. I seem to be quit emotional. Thank you for everything :-)

Lexapro 1 1/8 mg and 10 mg Propranolol. Thank you bubble :-) im not mixing my own im not sure whats going on im hopefull its probably just a short term thing. I take 400 mg magnesium thinking about going to 600mg. I told my self no more xanax but I couldnt handel it. I thought that half a milligram would work since it had been over a month since I had taken any thing but it didnt I waited for over an hr ended up taking 2mg I dont understand why smaller amounts dont work. I have taken 4mg in the last two monts which I didnt think was to bad. I guess my body is reall slow to adjust. Thank you for your help :-)

I'm not sure what's going on. Can you inch the Lexapro up a little, to 2.6mg?

Thanks Alto today has been a little better for anxiety. It would be hard the syringe I have only has 1 to 5 ml and no small numbers in between they marked it at 2.5 mg at the.pharmacy I would almost rather take a beating than go up but I dont know I have been at 2.5 mg for 2 months. I had the same problem at this time last year the dr said it was an anniversary reaction to when every thing started I guess I will hold for a little while and see if I have to go up I guess I can. thank you for listening. I also was thinking the day that was so bad I had a hard lemonade for lunch only 5% alcohol but I remember it made my head realy spaced out maybe I cant have any alcohol any more at all even though it was really small

Not surprising.  I've found that drinking any amount of alcohol now makes me feel strange and, well, just bad.  Still true after 16 months.

I have a friend from Maine and she talks about it often.  How is it up there?  She says that it's beautiful.

That makes sense: you were feeling ok on this dose for quite some time and since the liquid has stayed the same, it's probably the anniversary thing...

So I like your decision to just wait for it to pass (if possible, without Xanax...)

I don't take any alcohol at all (I only took very little rarely not to be socially awkward so it's not a problem at all) but even small amounts affect brains like ours strongly..

take your time, dear lobster.

I came to see that it is easier to deal with anxiety than paying price for a little calm Xanax used to bring me. Actually, I took it because my doctor told me anxiety will get worse if I don't . But now I see that it goes away on its own if I don't panic about being anxious.

I think reacting to symptoms with adding meds immediately (or changing the dose) is the most common mistake we all make. Just accept it and wait for it to pass. Or as moodyBlues does, smile at it ;)

Lobster sometimes taking xanax helps interrupt the anxiety cycle which is a good thing,  For sleep it can help too.  I think there is a problem with taking it let's say two nights in a row and then on the third night without taking it, insomnia can pop up.  It doesn't mean addiction, it just happens.

I get a rebounding depression from xanax....

Thank you it seems like if I take xanax one night no mater how bad im feeling the next night I sleep with out any thing it does seem to snap me out of a cycle. But two days after I have taken it it gives me rebound anxiety. Its almost like you cant win either way. But I can handel almost any thing during the day its just when im trying to sleep. I am so sorry I ever went on any thing. I read one thing a dr said that upset me and has stuck with me. People are like springs and the meds are bricks when removed some go right back in place others need the brick removed slowly to go back in place and others never go back in place. I'm afraid the only reason I'm not all doom and gloom is because I'm still taking ADs...

being low once in a while is a lot more natural than being high all the time as modern society would like us to be...

lobster, you might want to get a better oral syringe, with more markings, in preparation for more dosage adjustments see  http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/235-using-an-oral-syringe-and-other-tapering-techniques/

Sometimes people are sensitive to the change to liquid. You might try taking 2.5mg in tablet form and see if it makes you feel different.

but lobster has been taking liquid for at least a month and stabilised nicely...

Why would he now all of a sudden become sensitive to it?

Lobster, if you can possibly hang on and ride it out, at this point I think that would be your best bet. Given your sensitivity and the fact that you went down 50% in October and then made another big cut in November and then went back up to 2.5 (when?)--all that bouncing around has destabilized your brain chemistry, and I suspect that you may have reached the point where changing doses around will just cause more problems than it solves.

The exception might be a very tiny updose, from 2.5 to 2.7 or something like that. But I think if you make a big updose now you'll just be kicking yourself for it later. I've seen it dozens of times.

I really suspect your best friend right now is time, if you can manage it. Withdrawal storms come and go, but over time they settle down as your CNS heals and rebalances its chemistry. Given your recent history it will probably take some months.

Meanwhile, focus on the self care and self soothing suggestions given in the Symptoms and Self Care section, see if you can at least get in the occasional gentle walk and exposure to sunlight (if there is any--we've had mostly gray days here, sigh...)

And as far as hope for the future--The majority of people in your situation that I have seen, if they avoid going back on drugs, eventually recover completely or at least 90%, and get their lives back and are quite happy and satisfied with how well they do. It usually takes a lot longer than they would like.

And it's typical to feel hopeless during withdrawal and to be unable to imagine or remember ever feeling better. That's part of withdrawal in itself.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

You need a better oral syringe, a 1mL one with good markings, so you could go up slightly if you want to try that.

Everyone's tolerance for magnesium is different. If 200mg three times a day is too much, your gut will let you know very quickly.

I was wondering if having a lot more dreams is part of the withdrawal process? I went threw about two weeks of being tired and sleeping good then 8 days ago couldnt sleep.took xanax that night havent taken any thing since but I have been having a lot of sorrowful and emotional dreams every night. It seems like things are maybe trying to get out im not sure whats up my anxiety though has not been bad. It seems like my worst symptoms are always sleep related thanks :-)

This is quite common.  Often people notice a change in their dreams when they go on these drugs and also while coming off them.  When I stopped taking Lexapro (too fast), I was having intense, vivid dreams for about 4 months, not every night, but often.  Then it slowed down.  I went into protracted withdrawal over a year later, after being on other medications and stopping those (suddenly), then the intense dreaming started again, lasting several months.  It stopped, now I get them occasionally, I think its part of the healing process, but it can be exhausting when it goes on too long.

I agree with you that it feels like things are trying to 'get out'.  Probably all those emotions that got repressed by the drugs while we were taking them.

If you keep tapering slowly, and holding for good long stretches (unlike what I did), your symptoms will settle down and you will get off completely.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Lobster all of my life I have had vivid dreams.  Some pleasant and some not pleasant at all.

After going on psych meds the dreams became Technicolor - monumental and vivid.  I don't much care for that.  I was reading a book Dr. Richard Carlson and he was suggesting how to change out thought process over disturbing dreams.

"it is not real.  When it is over it's like leaving a movie theater."  We saw it and it ended.  It could be a memory or something from the past, which is the past.".  Treat it like leaving a movie.

I did have a dream last night about my former spouse's infidelities.  It still hurt and in the dream I could see myself being blindsided by him.

Sooooooooo this morning I said, "yes it still hurts, I am human, it was a dream about something that did happen, but it is over, it's the past.  I took Dr. Carlson's advise.

I hope this can help...Hugs
