Lobster I do well on protein.  But of course I slip in a cookie or something like that and it takes a toll.  When off sugar I have more energy, clarity and wake without feeling so tired.

I will say that now that I finally got off of ssri's my cravings for sugar are much better.  I still have them, but better.

greetings to Maine!

I always check up on you and was following your most recent issues. I'm very proud and happy for you for this realisation: a few months ago I would reach for Xanax but now I knew better. The same thing happened to me and it's so goooood ;)

I'm also very glad Alto directed your attention to your eating habits. What, when and how we eat is so very, very important. One of the benefits of WD experience is that it allows us to improve various aspects of our lives which we have been neglecting so far while being focused on the meds. And focusing on diet is extremely important.

I'm not an expert on this topic as some other people here but I know we are advised to eat 5 smaller meals per day to allow for a steady flow of energy that food gives us. So how about going to the fishing grounds with a lunch box?

I don't really know what egg Mcmuffins and cheerios are but they don't strike me as something that would enable your body and brain to benefit from protein and all the nutrients vegetables and fruit have.

In short, I think there is a great room for improvement in you when it comes to eating habits. Oatmeal and nuts are a great start.

If you add a lunch box with let's say grilled fish and green vegetables, that might be even better ;)

(I make my vegetables very simple, Mediterranean style: boil them quickly, chop some fresh garlic (if not in social situations ;) and add a generous amount of extra virgin olive oil. Raw greens as salad are a great addition.

I'm so happy we are focusing on other areas that can realyl improve our wellbeing and totally neglecting the meds. (they deserve no better ;)

Good morning Nikki :-) I know what you mean about sugar my head feels clear when im away from sugar. If I have to much for a while I end up with headaches. I really need to eat healthy. I have cholesterol issues my dr said it's hereditary and diet and exercise will not take care of it. My grandfather was 42 when he had his first heartatack. With the right meds and diet he has lived a long life 85 . My dr is a cardiologist he has told me to loose some weight but said the way im build he's not to worried about it. Im working more now so the weight is coming off. I never get hungry when im working but when I set around thats when I get into trouble lol :-)

Lexapro 1 1/8 mg and 10 mg Propranolol. I jumped down to 2.5 mg lexapro from 5 mg on oct 2 where I had been for 7 months and went from 2.5 mg to 1 1/8 mg not sure when maybe around nov 2 went back up to 2.5 mg December 30 . May 13 small cut lexapro 2.5 mg down to 2.4 mg 9/4/14 dropped 8.33% to 2.2 mg 10/13/14 dropped to 2mg lexapro. Back up to 2.2 mg 10/15/14. Dropped to 2 mg lexapro 11/26/14. Dropped 10% to 1.8 mg lexapro 1/11/15. 2/23/15 . Cut of 5%.

3/11/15 cut of 5% 5/3/15 cut of 5% 6/3/15 cut of 5% 7/19/15 cut of 5%. Continued small cuts of 5% every six weeks or so untill October 8th 2016 ,last dose . Last dose was 0.8mg. Currently taking 10 mg propranolol in the afternoon. 1400mg fish oil. 250 mg magnesium, 250 mg L-Taurine, 500 mg Tumeric. 40 mg Zocore simvistatin.

Hi Bubble :-) thanks for checking in.I totally agree there is a great deal I could change about my eating habits. My biggest down fall is pastas and breads. I don't eat a ton of sweets never add salt to things I use a lot of pepper.I tend to be really bad about eating regular meals. I should take a lunch box with me. I guess the biggest thing is I don't really know how to eat properly. That sounds kind of foolish I guess. I could always eat whatever and work off the extra weight. I guess now since the bad meds I have to reevaluate things. I need to eat more salads I do like vegetables. My son will eat raw veggies as a snack he loves things like that. I need to eat more like him lol. It does seem to be a accomplishment not to reach for xanax any more :-) it's a good feeling. I think that I should cut out sugars for a while and see how I feel. It certainly won't hurt. Take care

I'm sure your son wouldn't mind being your role model when it comes to raw veggies for a snack ;)

I should also be easy on bread and pastas because they mostly contain gluten which doesn't help our cause. And sugar is particularly vicious because it causes very sudden and sharp changes in our bodies which need stability of all sorts.

You don't have to do all of these things at once. But try to start with a one: maybe a lunch box first. And next some things from your net instead of sugar (sugar is so omnipresent in processed foods). Therefore it's best to go back to basics. I bet cheerios contain a lot of sugar.

you are getting there ;)

Having good snacks between meals makes you less hungry at meals and less likely to pile on the pasta, etc.

Homemade egg mcMuffins sound delicious. Cheerios is better than a sugared cereal.

You might want to try a whey protein isolate smoothie as a snack. You could make it in the morning with fruit and nuts and drink it mid-morning. Now Foods makes a good whey protein isolate.

It's so hard when people leave us but knowing they went in peace and you had a chance to say good bye is very consoling.

how are you feeling? I think you were afraid of your fear and the way in which you will handle this loss as much as the loss itself. I'm glad we can be here for you.

Thank you Nikki :-) it is really hard I miss him already. Growing up all I had was my dad and his parents. Now all that remains is my grandmother. My father's passing took a toal on us all. No parent should have to loose there child. Some how I feel at peace like a weight has been lifted off of my shouldes. I know he's at peace and he's back with my dad. Im sleeping better and don't feel as bad as I expected. Don't get me wrong I loved him very much and miss him but he was so home sick and in pain that was worse. I feel they are with me always in my heart they will always have my love :-) yes they were married for 65 years:-) My grandmother was 18. And my grandfather was 19. Long lasting love. Thank you for thinking of me :-)

Hi everyone just an update :-) I have been pretty good not to much anxiety. I do however have this continuous problem with my sleep. I can still only sleep in my spare room with out being jolted awake at the onset of sleep. This includes taking a nap which I can't. I have had only 2 months in the last 2 years where it didn't do this to me. I feel like it will never end. I know others have had this kind of problem. I was wondering though if any one else has had this for so long and on such a continuous basis? Thank you so much everyone :-)

hello there!

Nice to hear from you. It seems that not many people have had this kind of experience although we all have our horror sleeping stories. If I understand it correctly, you sleep ok in your spare room but experience problems in the "regular" bedroom? This can hardly be explained by medication and sounds really mysterious

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but wanted to let you know you've been heard as always ;)

Yes that is right bubble. Im ok in the spare room but any where else I wake all panicky after a few minutes. I just don't get it. It's like my subconscious is saying it's not safe here and my hyper alerting goes off. I don't think its the meds per say but has been a combination of them plus my own anxiety about sleeping and where that has me in this situation. I guess time will tell thank you for listening to me hope you are well take care :-)

Wasn't the spare bedroom cooler, darker, and quieter than the other?

Hi Alto you are right. I guess im going on the fact every time I fall asleep in my chair or anywhere else it happens. I haven't tried to sleep in another room with it dark I have to have the fan on now because of the constant ringing in my ears. I don't notice that during the day just when it is quite. My dr said it is all in my head I don't know maybe I am making my own problems. At least I am not anxious about it anymore. But back before Christmas when I was droping from 5 mg to 2.5 mg lexapro it stopped. But it started again when I went from 5 mg to 1 1/8 to fast and it is still with me now. I am also having a lot of pain in my hands that is waking me up. They suggested cortisone shots for carpal tunnel but I am extremely hesitant about any new meds as I am really sensitive. Thank you very much :-)

Those symptoms aren't in your head.

When did the hand pain start? Have you had it before?

Did you try acupuncture?

I have had the pain every spring when working on my gear for years. It used to take longer to bother but as I get older it comes on quicker and now it is to the point where it is really painful. I haven't tried acupuncture I wouldn't even know where to go for that around these parts :-)

Hi Lobster - i like your name! and you are from Maine which is wonderful. i am from New Brunswick/Canada originally. currently in Bklyn.

not sure if this will be of any help - but i have been tapering off Lexapro as well and one of the big issues (side effects) i had when i was at full dose was really bad hand/arm and neck issues. carpal tunnel, pins and needles and stiffness. at the time i had no idea it had anything to do with the medication. i spend alot of money on various treatments to no avail. when i first stopped the Lexapro those symptoms went away completely. as did the chronic constipation i had been experiencing.  it wasnt until i reinstated that the symptoms returned. i now find that each time i make a cut they lessen and then the longer i am on the new dose the symptoms start to creep back in. i also notice that when i am having side effect symptoms my sleep is interupted thru the night and i wake up at 3:30 -4:30 and cant get back to sleep. sometimes i take a low dose of Theanine and it helps me to sleep more deeply.

take good care,

lobster, it seems like the pain is physical stress related to your work. Withdrawal may be making you more sensitive to this.

Can you use wrist braces or wraps? Would they help?

A physical therapist or really good chiropractor or osteopath might be able to help, too.

Thanks Alto :-) I could try the wraps. I would try the cortisone shots but as I understand it is comprised of adrenaline that is injected in the sight and acts as a anti-inflammatory. If it is localized to that spot fine I already have problems with fight or flight and adrenaline surges and don't know if it would bother. I got burned bad last year and was prescribed hydrocodone for pain. But only took it a couple of times I was to sensitive and it made me really panicky. So I ended up with just Advil this was before I under stood about protracted withdrawals. Thank you so much

The cortisone shots are not adrenaline but you're right, they could affect your sensitive system in a bad way.

Please look into getting physical therapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, or acupuncture for the pain.

Hi everyone I hope you are all as well as can be :-) a little up date on my progress. I did a small cut on my lexapro on may 13 I dropped down from 2.5 mg to 2.4 mg to see how I would feel it's not much of a drop but it's in the right direction. As of now I haven't felt any negative effects im hoping it continues. I have been feeling pretty good not much anxiety and I have been keeping busy. Take care all.

Last dose was 0.8mg. great to hear from you and thanks a lot for the update!

I really like it that you are being so conservative with your taper and I will follow your progress closely hoping I will one day follow in your footsteps with this Lex.

It's been 2 weeks now and you haven't felt any adverse reactions to the cut which means you are on the right track. So very happy about it.

Maybe you could just add that date and the drop in your signature so that we can all see it and also for your future reference.

Where have you been sleeping these days? ;)

Hi Bubble :-) I will update my history. I'm hoping it continues I have learned to go slow from past experiences. It doesn't matter how fast you get off the meds it's the end results that matter :-) I'm still in my spare bedroom I've stopped thinking about it I figure when my body stops being so hyper sensitive I will be able to relax and not have a problem with where I sleep. It however might be a while but all I have is time. As long as im sleeping I can't complain. I havent taken any thing for sleep in months. I feel it will come around eventually.

I hope all is well with you take care :-)

this is all great news and great way of thinking: I have learned to go slow from past experiences and the fact that you stopped thinking about where you sleep as long as you can sleep and even without any "aids", wow!

I'm doing fine as well, imagining your blue office without windows, doors or for that matter, walls ;)
