EO, can you put your drug history in your sig line? It makes it easier to understand what's going on for you, since I don't usually have time to go back and read everybody's threads from the start. If you get the chance...thanks!

http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/893-please-put-your-withdrawal-history-in-your-signature/

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Since last cut feel more dep/apathy, tried getting help...sleep less, no joy, just holding on.

Reading n comprehension at a minimum.  Just existing.

Squirming in bed.  Never been so lost.  Hopelessness returning. Try so hard to maintain routine and avoid negative thoughts tho they're returning.  Feel flat.  Life passing by with little memories but ones of the bad times.  Can't understand what's happening to me.  More diff functioning.  Took nearly 45 min to type this.

Before anxiety was the worst, now this depression.

I moved your new post here, it is 1 topic per person in  introductions, that way it is easier to follow,

and easier for us to follow our own progress.

I am truly sorry for you in this state. It is withdrawal. A 30% cut in 3 weeks is an awfully big cut.

I know you want off and I know you weren't on it for long but these things happen to many of us

unfortunately. When your system is so messed up there is little you can do except treat it gently

and taper very slowly and carefully.  It might help you to updose a little, not what you want to hear

I know, but all I can suggest. This withdrawal sucks, it really does, but we have to understand what

is happening and roll with it, sadly there are no other options. My guess is that your previous cold

turkeys from ADs and benzos have sensitised your nervous system. Doctors don't tell you that little

nugget when prescribing more drugs!

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor.

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

Hi EO

How long have you been at 10 mg (I think I understand that you were at 15 mg and went to 10 mg).  If it was within one or two weeks, go back to the full dose.  If it has been more than two weeks increase by half of what you reduced.  So if you reduced by 5 mg, try adding back 2.5 mg and see if that relieves any symptoms.  Give it about 4 days before you make any other changes.

Hold the dose until you feel stable.  Track your symptoms so that you can tell whether things are improving, getting worse or staying the same: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1779-rate-symptoms-daily-to-catch-withdrawal-early/

After you become stable then you can begin a slow taper.  Our rule of thumb is no more than a 10% reduction at a time and hold it long enough until you feel stable.  However, that is a rule of thumb and you may have to adjust based on how your system responds.  Since it appears you were not on the drug long, you may be able to reduce at greater percentages or hold for less time, but right now it appears that your 30% reduction was too much.

I'd go back to 10 mg and taper more slowly.  There isn't a list of mitrazapine symptoms that I'm aware of.  You would just monitor the symptoms your are experiencing, for example, heart racing/pounding, sleep, joy/no joy, reading comprehension, anxiety, etc.

I rate my symptoms on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 means I'm dying and 10 is fantastic.  Others rate the opposite of that where 1 is fantastic and 10 is awful.  It doesn't matter as long as you pick a scale and monitor by it on a daily basis.  This method will help you catch decline or improvement early.

Hi EO,

I'm much worse in the mornings, its been my daily pattern all along.  I'm not feeling well at the moment and not up to writing much but here is a link to a thread about cortisol mornings:

thank you for your recent comment on my thread.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

I too am terrible in the mornings, I feel ill every morning until at least lunchtime, some days

I just can't face the day and feel like I just want to die it's so bad.  Not suicidal, I wouldn't

do that but would happily close my eyes and drift away into complete oblivion!

It does lift as the day goes on now but there have been waves that seemed relentless

and like they would last forever. Then I felt like I was never going to get better.  They

always lift in the end, and yours will too.

I am really sorry that you feel so bad and if I could make it all better I would in a heartbeat.

Sending one of my super squishy mamma hugs .

Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

first nice event in months. Battle this as I dislike psych meds. If go up will have to cut down again and will I really stabilize on any level

Won't I eventually stabilize on ths lower dose?

Unfortunately nobody can tell you what's going to happen. It's possible that if you can just hang in there for another month or so you will stabilize and then you can continue to taper at a more reasonable rate.

I think the fact that you felt better with a slight updose indicates that updosing might be a reasonable option for you as well that might give you some relief of your current symptoms.

Whatever you do, don't just take extra med randomly and erratically--that will just make things worse. Either updose slightly and take that new amount every day at the same time, or stay where you are.

If you do updose, be aware that although you may feel some improvement immediately, you will continue to have a waves and windows pattern and it may take weeks to stabilize.

It's possible that you would stabilize within that same period even without an updose. Nobody can say. Your situation is too complex for me, at least, to feel that I could make a useful or accurate prediction.

Reading success story here. Given I have been on this med 1 Month now and having difficulty w/d ing, started to question if I've set myself back a long ways given my 9 years of partial recovery from Xanax w/d. Guess no one can know. I pray this event doesn't take me way back. This added fear to my bit of hope.

Not usually -- it causes withdrawal symptoms. There's a lot of bad information out there and it sounds like your friend is repeating it.

I'm feeling stuck at about 11 mg mitrazapine.  Depression is hanging on.

Feel stuck.  Had little improvement from the depression for a few days tho physically still compromised.

I'm waiting for cylinder and syringes.  Been so difficult to be on computer and order things.

Does age have something to do with difficulty recovering from these meds?

Cannot find joy or pleasure. Never been so low.  Usually the anxiety is the worst, now this depression seems the worst.

Sorry, really needing to get some help/support.

Thanks

I know every one here is struggling too.

Does age have something to do with difficulty recovering from these meds?

I think there are a lot of factors involved in the rate at which people recover from these meds, some of them we have control over, some not.  Since we can't change our age, there's not much point in thinking about it really.  But we can do things like make sure we are eating a good diet, as much as possible getting some exercise, gentle at first and then building up as symptoms allow.  We can try taking the supplements which have shown to be helpful. Most people find that cutting out caffeine and alcohol reduces the severity of symptoms. We can make an effort to minimize stress within our own particular circumstances.  There are a lot of things we do have some control over, have a look through the symptoms and self care section section of the site.

Cannot find joy or pleasure. Never been so low.  Usually the anxiety is the worst, now this depression seems the worst.

I know what you mean about what ever symptom is currently present seems like its the worst.  I've been going through these withdrawal swings between anxiety and depression too.  The ongoing anxiety day after day would be exhausting and I would long for a break from it, then it would subside, only to be replaced by a kind of lifeless void of depression which by comparison, felt worse.  With the anxiety, at least there is some feeling.  Each moment seems to wipe out all memory of other moments so its like we are trapped for eternity in a hellish now.  But its not true, that's just the way it seems, it does get better and there are more moments when we can see the bigger picture again.

I'm waiting for cylinder and syringes.  Been so difficult to be on computer and order things.

I've had this problem too.  I used to have an online computer business, felt more comfortable on the computer than in bed.  Nothing computer related stressed me, I found everything about them an exciting challenge...... but not now.  Even simple computer related things now feel complicated, stressful and overwhelming.  I'm slowly working my way back, but its very slow and every little glitch has the potential of causing panic.  You are fortunate that you will most likely stabilize and feel better, then continue to taper without having to experience extreme symptoms again.  Try and be patient, don't change anything, give your nervous system the time it needs to catch up.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

It is mid morning, Anxiety high...confused, increase med, get off, slow, fast. Not sure drug is helping. Fears abound again.

Curl up,hang on, call a friend, move about, do basic chore, Lay down, curl up...much like Xanax w/d but worse depression. Can't tell how much is mental and what is physical. Doing 5 mins at a time. Diff to settle my mind as I hear " it's your anxiety, it's the drug, it's lyme disease, etc" ., from all caring people/friends, just makes me so stressed due to the confusion.

So many friends and some family take meds successfully and function well.

I am at what to do, what to do. Memories of recent hospital...ugh

Feel so needy. Want out of the despair.

Thnx

Again, prayers for all.
