I wish I could tell you what to do to make it better but I am at a loss, sometimes there just isn't

anything to help but to hold on tight and wait for your body to settle down. I've no doubt that it will settle but it takes time.

Get through the next hour, just an hour, then the next one. There will be a window and I hope it is soon for you.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Dropped own to 7.5 mg mitrazapine last night as felt so sick on the increase day before. Read where some tapered off quickly when drug became or always was toxic to them, was on a short time and recovered in weeks. Trying to hold on to hope.

Luck to you! Might try an antihistamine like benadryl if insomnia gets bad. It has some effect on me. Especially when i reduce mirtazapine. For me insomnia gets the worst 5-7 days after each drop and then again at about 3 weeks.

Hi EO, I take magnesium and it helps with the anxiety I think. I was feeling quite anxious today and had to go to the shops.

When I got back I took my mag and fish oil. The anxiety ebbed away in an hour or so. It wasn't major anxiety, just in my gut,

having to go out when I didn't want to do anything.  I used to take powder but had diarrhoea with it so bought some tablets

which are much better. They are worth a try, they might help you too but not everyone can take them because of the laxative effect.

HI MammaP:

Eyeyeyeye, cure one problem and create another!  LOL

ok, so I'll be careful on how much I take.  Good to know it helped you. You think it was true anxiety or really a sensitized nervous system stressed by stimulation or even the thought of it?  Maybe the same thing.  I don't like the word:  "anxiety"!  :)  Always got me in big trouble and hope to get better handle on that soon.

2nd day of cut....yesterday was best mental health day in very long time tho serious headache and had to lay down mostly all day. This morning feel in hell again. Had no trembling , heart Sx,etc., yesterday. Now, I do and not out of bed yet, 7:43 am. I'm at 7.5 mg mitrazapine. Think my brain was happy at first with less drug in it? Thinking if so toxic on it, maybe should come off faster but....?

I check in on your thread so read your responses. It isn't like facebook where you get notifications for everything.

Sometimes threads can move quite quickly and it is easy to miss a reply when it is on someone else's thread.

I think most people who post a reply go back to check  later on. (if they remember. This withdrawal stuff really

messes the brain up!)   We can see your reply here but don't get notifications.

I'm glad yesterday was a better day, there will be many more to come  :)

I think you probably searched this topic EO. At the right of the search box there is a little grey box that says 'this topic'

click that and other options will drop down. Click forums and there will be results from all the boards. I did that too

until I read about it on another thread!

Thanks MammaP.   Your directions helped a lot.

I'm having severe w/d sx now, 2nd night from cut....oh, I so don't want to go back up...never did feel stabilized on any amount.

Read a little from google search on mitrazapine w/d sx how some people jumped off and only suffered weeks, esp if only on a short time.  Not sure I can do that yet.  I'm 7.5mg away from being off but only on 1/2 what I started with just a little over a month ago.

Doesn't make much sense unless I think of the previous xanax w/d and possible poor detoxifier/metabolizer if that holds true.

Given I had a mental health day reprieve yesterday and only sx I felt affected my head plus the weakness, I felt encouraged I did the right thing to make another cut.

Thanks.  Needed to share tho know we're all struggling to find our way.  Wish I could give back but can pray for us all and offer my compassion.  I survived xanax w/d, so know this can be done.

Hi EO,

You can rest assured that your posts do get read, you can see how many views your topic has so people have been reading. Most times there is no good answer for many questions people post but many here do have the same problems as you. Hang in there, things do change but very slowly. I know that is not what you really want to hear but it is the best that many of us who have been living through this can say. Just know we are all pulling for things to get better for you. The best thing you can do is not mess with med dosages, you know that. Slower is always better. And you really are stronger than you think you are. Many of us have found that out about ourselves and never realized it is true.

July 2016 I have decided to leave my story here at SA unfinished. I have left my contact information in my profile for anyone who wishes to talk to me. I have a posting history spanning nearly 4 years and 3000+ posts all over the site.

Thank you to all who participated in my recovery. I'll miss talking to you but know that I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines, suffering and rejoicing with you in spirit, as you go on in your journey.

Hi C. :)

Thanks so much for your nice and speedy reply. Yes, u r right, my posts are read, :), and I wondered too if there were no good answers, which is scary too, is so helpful to have interaction with others suffering along this path. I think I went too fast and guess I need to hold tho I feel toxic but did before I went on this med. I held on for several months ere I ended up in the hospital, a horrid experience.

I am pulling for others recovery too. :)

Thnx again. EO

I do read your post, and we are brothers in arms, fighting the same war. Ive had maybe about 15 cuts in my taper of mirtazapine and i do get better again after each cut, but it takes time, time that is not good. I get a wallop of badness at 4-5 days after a cut, then seems to get better slowly, again beat down with insomnia a few days at about 3 weeks and then the worst seems to be over for that cut. Dizziness seems to wary a lot. A lot of side effects have stopped when i got to lower doses, withdrawal is the same though at each cut. Almost a little stronger now when i cut at lower doses so cutting by percentage is better than trying a linear approach.

I suspect that you have gone a little to fast in your taper, but you need to figure out how your body and mind works. We are all a little different. Having had benzos and other meds earlier in the mix calls for an slower taper i believe also.

I have cut to much a few times and had setbacks because of it in having to uppdose, and hospitalized once because of insomnia(sleeping 6 hours in 11 days is a bit to little). If possible, be patient, and let time be your healer. We are all great "fixer upper opportunities" and going slow i believe makes for a better end result!

No up dose before hospital. The "friendly" doctors forced me to take different meds (they said that if i don't follow their recommendations then they could not help me and would send me home) and i had to stay in the same ward as people with some quite different and quite scary behaviors and problems. At night there where total craziness. Was not good for my insomnia knowing that one of those could wander in to my room at any time. Still got some perspective on my own problems, they are not that bad :-)

Insomnia is quite hard to cope with. I have found though that i have gotten used to less sleep and i can now take a week of 2-3 hour nights without crashing. Prior all this having 6 hours or less only 1-2 days wrecked me. Whats important is to take it slow after bad nights. Imagine yourself like a Buddha master slowly walking about in contentment dishing out cryptic wisdom at random. No googling of problems and decision making or planing. Put up all that for the next day.

Planing, googling symptoms and changing the plan is usually not good for anxiety and stress. Withdrawal from mirtazapine causes the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline to increase. Its important to find things that work the opposite of that. Meditation, yoga, listening to music, watching feel good movies, warm (not hot) baths etc. Find things that makes the hours go in as good(or least bad) a way as possible. Whatever slows you down and mellows you. Time/days is your healer.

I have watched through all star trek series many times. I have some favorite comedy series i watch also.

Hi EO,

I'm sorry, I did read this post, but didn't respond, I almost did, but as you mentioned later, there really wasn't an answer.  I get pressure in my whole body, not just my head. I guess its probably a similar feeling, but its not so bad it makes me clench my teeth or curl hands and feet.  Maybe doing that would help.  At the moment, this pressure symptom for me has subsided, it has been very bad at times though.  It will probably come back, hopefully not as bad.  As you probably know, these symptoms come in waves, go away for a while, come back, usually not quite so strong, slowly getting better each time.

I've noticed significant muscle weakness developing over the last couple of years.  When I try and do things I used to be able to do easily, its a shock to find that I don't have the strength I used to have.  But I'm not too concerned, I'm planning on going back to the gym when I'm well enough.  I know I'm capable of building up muscle strength again when I'm ready.  You will be able to do the same when you are ready.  Just take things one step at a time, get through each day the best you can.

I also have times when I find it difficult being on the computer.  I can't understand what I'm reading and when I do understand, or think I'm understanding, I later realize that I had got it wrong.  Sometimes I have very negative emotional reactions to what I'm reading or listening to, this mostly happens in the mornings, so I have to be very careful what I do until I'm feeling better.  I also find that in general, I can't expose myself to anything on the computer with sound until later in the day, its just too much stimulation.  I save my youtube time for later in the day.  When I get tired, much later in the day, I can no longer read anything or even watch videos, I can only listen to audio, so that's when I find things which are mostly audio related, like documentaries, guided meditations, interesting interviews, talks etc.

You asked about how to stabilize.  You do that by not changing anything.  Stabilizing isn't dependent on finding some particular 'right' dose of medication, but by holding at where you are for as long as it takes for your nervous system to settle down and stop sending symptoms.  This process can take a while, sometimes months if you are tapering and need to hold because of too fast tapering.  This can also contain elements of windows and waves.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Hi,

Feels like I am going backwards. Each day seems a bit harder. Anxiety hi...feel sicker in the a.m.

Starting to call docs again on my insurance but either too far away or they don't callback. Not sure they could help.

Don't want to

end up on another drug or in the H. Wondering if I'll stabilize on this med or dose...6 nights on this dose,

first day being good mentally.

Sorry I am not able now to give back.

Thanks

Best

Sorry that you are feeling bad! I know what its like. Hang in there!

If i understand correctly you are down to 7.5 mg and been there for 6 days. Mirtazapine has a different half life between girls and guys. It takes a little longer (girls 6-7 days) for blood serum to stabilize on a new dose. So when you taper the concentration of mirtazapine in your body is reduced more and more until stabilizing on the new level 6-7 days out.

You are now at steady state for 7.5 mg and it should usualy not become much worse than this, but within days/week quite possibly slowly better and better as your body and brain gets used to the new level.

You are tapering quite fast if i remember your previous posts correctly and that is rough on your system. It takes 6-7 days + the amount of days needed for your body to adapt before geting stable on a new dose. Usualy at least 4 weeks. More if the taper was done by a large amount. There is no short cut in this. Sorry.

Try to do relaxing things now and for a few days do not do physicayl or mentaly stressfull things as this adds on top of the WD:s.

2010: Mirtazapine 30mg followed by Zopiclone 7.5 mg for sleep post surgery due to pain.
2012-> Tapering Mirtazapine and Zopiclone at different rates unsuccessfully.
2013: Hospitalized 10 days due to complete Insomnia. Forced back up to 45mg Mirtazapine, 7.5 mg Zopiclone and also Theralene 1 ml.
2013-03: Lab showed Vitamin D deficient. Found the vitamin d and insomnia connection. Supplementing vitamin d. Sleep improved by 1-2 hours
2013-04: Dropped mirtazapine to 30 due to severe side effects. Quit Theralene. Zopiclone 7.5.
2013-05 - 2013-11: Mirtazapine taper monthly 25 20 15 11 8 4 2.5 mg
2013-12 Holding M at 2.5. Need to taper Zopiclone due to daytime nausea and vomiting. Taper zopiclone 1/4 red every 5 d. Last Z 2013-12-19
2013-12-31 M:2.5. Reinstated Zopiclone 3.75 due to Insomnia
2014-01-06 M:2.5. Taper Z 1.9 ... 2014-01-14 M:2.5. Z 1 mg.
Jumped of Zopiclone 01-20. Jumped mirtazapine 02-16.

Theralene: 10mg 02-09. 8mg 03-09. 5mg 03-15. 4mg 03-24. 3mg 04-08. Jumped 04-21.

Wulfgar, I was just going to look up your thread to check in on u and saw I had a reply. :). Thank you.

Interesting women and men have diff half lives on this med. would u believe the doc who prescribed this med said I could just stop it now and wouldn't feel any worse? Tempting tho scary. Pharmacist said could taper in quarters every few days.

Eyeyeyeyeyeyeye.

It is validating to know others get how overwhelmed mental work can be, even posting here but worth the effort.

Hard to see oneself so taxed by simple daily chores, like paying bills. Normally an easy task even with other health issues.

Course, was similar with the extreme anxiety and depression. Argh

Could app your comments on hospital experience...so true.

I am glad u can tolerate the insomnia better now tho no picnic. was like that for me in Xanax w/d eventually.

Last Fall, the insomnia and sick brain feeling with hi anxiety didn't allow for managing the insomnia .

I forced myself to meditate for 20 mins last eve. Was diff and scares me.maybe need to do it more.

Wonder if others find it scary?

Just learned walking meditation...now to practice it.

Best
