compsports
Hi, Due to having to discontinue fish oil in preparation for my 3/6 surgery, I am finding my already impaired cognitive abilities are worsened. It also affecting my mood. Has anyone who couldn't take fish oil found an acceptable substitute that didn't have similar type properties? Thanks! CS PS - I understand it is my responsibility to make sure that anything you suggest would be acceptable for me to take. Administrator Altostrata Posted February 16, 2014 Administrator Share Posted February 16, 2014 In my opinion, the concern that fish oil increases risk of bleeding is overblown, at least at the dosages we take, see http://www.healthcentral.com/heart-disease/c/1435/92407/fish-bleeding/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17368278 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17368277 http://www.ccpdocs.com/images/Articles/Karalis%20Fish%20Oil%20Study.pdf http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3217043/ This is not medical advice. compsports
I agree Alto. And according to many herbalists, that concern transcends to most of the herbs that are forbidden before surgery but shouldn't be. Unfortunately, I don't have the energy to fight on this. I am saving it in case I am told to fast after midnight for an afternoon sugery. Then i am going to quote the American Association of Anethesiology Guidelines that say a minimum 8 hour fast is sufficient of solid foods, 6 hours is ok for toast and tea, and 3 hours is good for clear liquids. It just bugs the sh-t out of me that these folks aren't up on the lastest guidelines. But that is nothing new. CS PS - I have not been given a surgery time yet just so people know.
