Drug side effects cause PTSD

Commanders and medicial workers have also been ordered, according to the Associated Press, to determine if any of their troops have suffered from the drug’s side effects, but have been mistakenly told that they have posttraumatic stress disorder or other psychological conditions.

This sure explains a lot article says the neurological effects are long lasting and maybe forever....

See any connections...

Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Misdiagnosis?

There may now be thousands of people who received diagnoses of brain injury or PTSD whose symptoms may be caused in part by medicine they took while deployed, Nevin said. As a result, the treatments they receive may not necessarily help them.

To determine how big this problem is, the research community needs to do brain scans, animal studies and other experiments to isolate mefloquine's effects. Scientists should also do more systematic studies in affected populations, such as veterans and Peace Corps volunteers.

Better understanding how mefloquine affects the brain could point the way to potential treatments, Nevin said.

"If we spend only a fraction of what was spent on the development of this drug to investigate its toxic effects, we could make great advances," Nevin said.

Oh yeah, I read about it a long time ago.  There's a whole support group for people who have been harmed by that drug.  Lots of vets very upset about what's happened and with good reason.

I am not a medical professional and nothing I say is a medical opinion or meant to be medical advice, please seek a competent and trusted medical professional to consult for all medical decisions.

Lots of vets in my family... lots of travelers too.. who take antimalaria drugs and have been hurt by them... if this one drug can cause this and the truth can be learned about one drug the truth can be learned about other drugs that are causing the same type of damage.

It is the tip of the ice burg in my opinion.  I did not know they had a support group for this I am glad still any one segment of the populations can not change a thing unless the rest of the so called average Joes take notice and through their vote in with them.

No man in an island.

The fact drugs can cause these issues is a start... now to figure out how they damage us and if it can be repaired.. like I said before likely not in our lifetime but what of our kids and theirs... makes me mad... but then so many things do.
