Esther Posted March 12, 2014 Share Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) I have been on 20 mg of citalopram for over a year. Previously I had been on for a few months and came off cold turkey... Panic attacks and and anxiety (which i had never had and thought I was going mad) i fully think i had discontinuation syndrome.. 8 months of hell!!! One of the admins can do that for you as long as your new user name is available. There is no reason to be terrified, but good healthy caution is warranted. We recommend you taper at no more than 10% of your previous dose. I've pasted the link to our thread on tapering off of citalopram below. I recently dropped down too speedily and am now taking a bit more to stabilise myself after feeling dreadful on the fast taper I had set myself... Now I am all about patience and the long journey off this disasterous medication. Very very best of luck and please know your not alone, and we are not going crazy Drug history 20mg paxil in 2001 - 4 months use 20mg paxil in 2003 - 2 months use 20mg paxil in 2008 - 8 years continuous Withdrawal history: March 2014 - disastrous alternate day taper Jan 2015 - 15mg to 10mg. Disaster Sept 2015 - 10mg to 5mg. Disaster. Reinstated to 6mg. Relief Oct 2015 - started slow 10% taper Oct 2016 - at 4mg- stop taking paxil (not recommended) I'm not a medical professional. Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015 I believe the ssri era will soon stand as one of the most shameful in the history of medicine. Pretzle Posted December 15, 2015 Share Posted December 15, 2015 Hey there Esther I hope you're doing well. I'm also in the process of getting off Cit and I'm now at 6 mg (liquid, 3 drops). I was at 40 mg at my highest dose, then went to 30 mg last year around the holidays, to 20 around May and to 10 around October. I had some pretty severe physical WD symptoms going back to 3 drops, but now I'm fine again for almost a week. I'm waiting until after Christas and then I'll reduce my dose again. Just take it slow, you can do it! On Citalopram (Celexa) since January 2014. Up to 40 mg (highest dose) then down to 10 mg (few months at both 30 mg and 20 mg). In the process of tapering off completely using liquid form of the drug. 4 drops (8mg) is supposedly equal to 10 mg tablet. (early Dec:) 3 drops (6 mg), two weeks of pretty bad symptoms (all physical) and then fine, held for 2 weeks after that. (27 Dec) 2 drops (4 mg), (23 Jan) 2 mg -> steady lowering by 0.25 every few days to (14 Feb) 0 mg. Link to comment
