Hi.  I'm a new member and feeling lost.  I've been taking Zoloft for 14 years and one of the side effects has been the development of microscopic colitis, among other things.  I want to be drug free and started the reduction at 25% a few days ago.  The reactions include increased irritability, "jolts," feeling out of sync and the desire to go back to full dose for relief.  Are these considered mild reactions or should I go back to full dose and start out again at the recommended 10%?  I am able to work and sleep and have a normal appetite, although feel a little nauseous.

Hi SharB,

Welcome and thank you for posting an introduction.  It does sound like you have some withdrawal symptoms and its not surprising because many people here have found it too uncomfortable to taper with such large cuts, we recommend the 10% per month method.

 

If I were you, I would reinstate a full dose, and wait until you feel better, then begin a slower taper.  Here are our tips for tapering from Zoloft:

Alternatively, you could reinstate an amount which would bring your dose up to having made a 10% cut, and then hold there.  What dose of Zoloft were you on?

 

There is a possibility that these symptoms will settle down in a while, so you could wait, but if you choose to do that, please make sure you are symptom free for at least a week before making another cut and then, no more than 10% of your current dose.

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

If it has been more than 4 days since you decremented and you are still feeling uncomfortable symptoms, you may want to updose slightly or back up to your original dose.  Once stable you can continue your taper at the slower, recommended 10% taper to avoid uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms.
