I can relate a bit:. When the dystonia comes back, I become very, very anxious.  Physical discomfort/pain causes mental issues, but the WD causes the dystonia, too.

Oh Lex, you made my day!  You are such a lovely and sweet soul!  It's amazing that I can find such compassion on a computer site!  I continue to trust and pray for all of us to be totally free one day very soon!

My w/d symptoms have pretty much come back to base level at last so I believe I'm stabilising from that switch.  But as you know I'm now grappling with the stomach issues!  I think if I continue to eat basic like I am, I will be able to to cope with it.

How is the back pain today?  How is your mental head space??  Take care, much love xx

Hi there Lex are you still around?  I am in bad situation.  Posted a message earlier in Symptoms.  I recall your severe reaction to an anti-biotic and think I am on an anti-virus med and very frightened as I recall your reaction!  I've started it anyway as apparently because I have supposedly got shingles must start within 3 days and don't know how long I've had it for and if I don't start it could get worse.  Many complications with all this, and other issues.  Hope you are okay????  Love to hear from you!

Hi Lex:

I don’t get on much anymore, but wondered how you were doing?

On New Year’s Eve Day, I am tapering down to 0.3mg, so I am getting there.

Just wanted to say hi.

Take care,

Frogie xx

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

Hello Lex

I was reading through your replies to other members and your advice, and I think your advice may be relevant to my situation. I think I may be experiencing the same thing as you when you were tapering.

I have consistently experienced the reduction - windows - poop-out pattern:

When I dropped from 20mg-> 15mg, I had a window for a month then a huge crash into crisis

I then dropped from 15mg to -> 13.5mg, again i had a window for a month then a huge crash into crisis

Finally i dropped from 13.5mg -> 10mg, I had a window for about a week then intense wave.

I was originally on 10mg and after a rapid taper of 2 months to 0 I entered severe WD and the doctor reinstated to 20mg. When I was reinstated, I felt even worse. My DR and terror intensified horrificly, and developed severe akathisia and suicidal ideation. After each cut from 20mg, the windows I experience is marked lessening of these symptoms, before crashing again. The lower the dose I go, the better the window (especially the DR)

Is this similar to what you have experienced? how long did it take for you to feel worse after holding? how long did it take for you to feel better after a cut?

If I have read right, you cutted everytime you experienced a wave?

Since I am in an intense wave of akathisia and SI, I am contemplating whether to hold or keep going, but a bit reluctant as it has only been 2 weeks since my last cut.

Thank you!

Update on 7 months since stopping lexapro

starting at month 6, saw some improvement although all symptoms during month 3-5 still remained still half time in bed but not all the time. So signs of out of the worst 3 months from 3-5.

was hoping and thinking things would move forward toward more healing and feeling better, before a few very unexpected trauma hits.

About one month ago at the beginning of month 7 off lex,  a  physical therapist did a so- called lateral shift on my lower back and body without any diagnose or need or a word like he sudden attacked me before I knew. Been in most insane pain since then from the mistreatment and harm which caused many anxiety episodes. It turned out he injured my SI joints, lagiments, muscle on both sides. Been bed ridden for two weeks then house bound ever since.

Making matters even worse, 2 weeks after the back injury, I had a back MRI to diagnose the injury. 30 mins after the MRI I passed out completely for 10 mins. This was later confirmed as the result of strong electromagnetic fields from the MRI. I had MRI before without problems, now  the sensitized system can't handle it anymore just like what happened when I tried tiny amount of magnesium early and the body reacted with terror. WD was ramped up to the sky (alltime worst) with all the symptoms worsened 10 times plus new ones anxiety, depression etc.  It has been 3 weeks now and slowly the huge reaction started calming down.

so overall I'm back to month 5 due to all the trauma. Seriously I would think I should be much better if not for the back injury and the MRI.

regardless, my emotion is still improved quite a bit not like a complete zombie, DR lessoned quite a bit only showing when feeling anxious, cognitive is better too not as confused.

more lessons learned fro my self

1. take very dear care of other health situations,

2. No more seeing doctors including therapists-- always thought I'm extremely careful, but missed seeing risk from non- medicine type

3. No more tests using any electric devices

Hope the next update is a positive one.

wish everyone is doing fine.

lex

Hi Lex. @LexAngerhow are you doing now? I was also on Lexapro for two years. Stopped it 21 months ago but still in withdrawal. One of my ongoing symptoms is electromagnetic sensitivity. I get funny sensations in my head when I look at screens. I just read your post and realized I had an MRI and two EEG scans a few months ago. Could they have contributed to this symptom? Grateful for your feedback. Thank you so much!!

Summer 2016 - summer 2018: put on Lexapro, going from 5 mg up to 20 mg over the span of the 2 years (had visited shrink for help with obsessive thinking, was not diagnosed with anything in particular, just prescribed Lexapro 15 mins into first session)

Summer 2018: tapered down by 2.5 mg every few weeks

Protracted withdrawal ever since. 0-14 months began with a massive panic attack that landed me in ER, followed by prolonged anxiety, mental fog and a skin rash on my back. Was regularly consuming alcohol as did not know I was in WD. From then onwards, hit with worse myriad symptoms. Currently at 22 months and have electromagnetic sensitivity, brain zaps, brain fog, memory problems (especially name recall), twitch in right eyebrow, daily waking up at 3 or 4 a.m. with fast heartbeats and "sticky" negative memories, suicidal thoughts, rage episodes, temperature dysregulation, physical numbness & weakness, libido loss.

I'm so sorry for being away for so long. I still visit sometimes but stopped posting.

The reason is my story is too depressing to others and I haven been too sick to post.

Somehow feel I can provide a short update today for the sake of everyone who cares about me still and also to warm others not to make the bloody mistake I made.

About one yr after being off lex. I took 2.5mg valium for the back injury that caused muscle stiffness. 5 days after, I tried to stop but it was too late already. Pushed through a real death journey reaching zero in 11 months, now off 10 months but been highly disabled and totally bedridden since day 7 on valium.

The damage is 100 times more than what lex did if I can say the least.

How could I threw myself into another hell after years fighting with lex? I  ask myself the same question every single day without an answer.

The message I want to send today.

If you think ssri wd is too hard and ever considering benzo to help. Please don't. Benzo in my experience and many others is much much much more dangerous and can be highly disabling.

If you ever doubt if you can heal from ssir wd, I can assure you that you will. I was doing much better off lex except for a sensitized system to msg, artificial sweeteners etc. I was able to live a rather normal life if not for the severe back injury which led to benzo.

I'm very sorry for everything that I wanted to do but not able to as I promised while tapering lex to help others here.

My sincere apology for not even able to acknowledge my heartfelt appreciation to Alto, all the staff and friends I made here in my 4.5 yr taper off lex, and the promises I made to be there for others who helped cared me immensely.

I'm still not able to communicate well or post here. Pls use pm for particular questions if you have any and if my answers can be helpful to you.

Hope all my friends are doing better and get their life back!

Love to all

Lex

Thank you both Rosetta and Alto for your dear messages!

Alto,

Hope life is treating you well for everything you so deserved helping others!

Rosetta, my dear friend

I will be forever grateful to you for your effort trying to save my life by stopping me from taking benzo, even at that time I totally lost my mind like being dragged by a hard to resist evil force jumping to the benzo hell.

I hope you are doing much better in wd and life in general.

Love to all,

Lex

I’m sad that it’s still so hard for you.  I’m doing much better.  Someday you will be, too.  Keep up the hope.

Hi Lex - I am unsure if you are still around. First off, I wanted to say that you seem like an amazing person and I am sorry for what you have had to endure. I hope the benzo hell is retreating.

I wanted to ask you about your aspartame reaction as I have had a large setback and it may be due to aspartame. Here are my questions:

•    Do you remember what your immediate reaction was like when you took it?
•    It sounded like you had been drinking the fiber drink every day for a while. Were you fine drinking it one day and then the next the reaction occurred?
•    How long did it take for the symptoms to go away? I am a month in and not seeing any improvement.

Please let me know if you can. Thanks again.

Late Dec 2019 - due to misdiagnosed brain injury, I was put on 20mg paxil (ramped up from 10mg) and 50 seroquel for sleep

May 2020 - down to 15mg paxil (stayed for 3.5 weeks) - minimal withdrawal

June 2020 - down to 10 mg paxil (stayed for 2 weeks) - minimal withdrawal

June 2020 - down to 5 mg paxil (stayed for 12 weeks) - flu like symptoms that would come in waves, insomnia randomly at week 10

September 2020 - 0 mg paxil and have been at this for two weeks. Moderate depression, anxiety, and strong insomnia - debating what to do
