Lex, are you substituting Prozac for Lexapro drop by drop? And now you're feeling somewhat better?

hi Alto,

No, I'm still holding on to lex only. Somehow the second try to cut the drops didn't bring up the bright lighting and heart freezing in sleep. I did a half drop (out of approximately 80 drops total) then increased to 2 drops 3 days later. The swollen stopped and DR lessened 5-6 days after initial drop.

Indeed Alto!

I hope the continuous learning and coping with this myth work out step by step without the need of switch.

Another day of massive needle pain, but brain worked most time and DR is momentary. Also interestingly my heart beat is bit slower ( closer to my normal rate) than it was the past few months.

It's a true blessing to have you all understanding and supporting!

Dear AliG, thanks for checking on me!

unfortunately I dont have good news to update.

After the earlie cut of 4 drops, the swollen, sever DR lessoned but then replaced by severe pins and needles pain alternating each day with very uncomfortable and strange sensation (like snuggling entire head, neck, shoulder, back on fire barbecued). I continue feeling the strong resistance to each drop either too much pain or the sunnuglling. I had to extend the dosing by taking long breaks (couple hours) for the pain to sunside before continue, so my dosing schedle has been off a lot most days it took the entire day time to finish. Interestingly, once the bad symptoms from earlier dose in a day subside, its mcuh easier to take the rest without much suffering.

I am still struggling hard to hold on to this evil leaxapro in hoping to make a peace with it at some point so I dont have to risk the whole unknown of switching to Prozac. Also, I have just found no pharmacy still carry brand name Prozac which I prefer to generic. I dont know if Eli Lili stopped making it after thir patent expired.

My heart reading is very high again (237) which I believe its from the chaos of my electricity field as my true pulse is only a bit higher (78) than normal.

Overall, my brain works for the very basic simple things, but amount of pain with constant killing power is very intolerable often times make me feel the end of ability to continue living.

I also did another cut 2 days ago (2drops) which put my current dose at 3mg. I didnt get different symptoms from this drop like I usually did (bright lighting, numbness, pressure on head, fatigue etc.) instead just contiue with the same old pain and snugging.

How are you doing lately? I hope you are in a nice long window and seeing more lights to the end of the tunnel!

If you go the Prozac route, I would start with liquid Prozac. The generic liquid might do.

Thanks Alto!

I asked Prozac liquid brand name, but would go with generic with your assurance if the brand name is too hard to get. Switching will still be my last resort though.

On the other hand, I'm still holding with lexapro ( can't believe it myself after what I experienced and still experiencing). I know it's not great but I have been playing with the 3 mg everyday, completely based on how much my body tells me I can take each time and how long I need to break before the next drop. It sounds ridiculous that I'm now taking the liquid over 12+ hours drop by drop with two bigger breaks ( more like 3 split doses with smallest in morning, and largest in evening) Somehow I feel my symptoms are not as bad and / or severe these few days. Most my DR and swelling are short lived and mild, my brain works for the job, burning/needling triggered by some drops usually lessened after a longer break so overall my suffering is not that much. I would have hours here and there in a day almost normal with minimal pain. It's interesting that the last dose in evening usually is much easier and smoother.

Very incredible, luckily my friends at work even believe me with good understanding and they even try to analyze for a strategy with me together. A true blessing!

Warm regards,

LexAnger, You should be so proud of yourself. You have had such a tough time and you continue to stay the course and remain hopeful.

I'm almost 22 month off Lexapro after a 4.5 mo taper. Many symptoms are so much better and my mental/emotional state is regulated and steady more than off balance for sure, but I think you are right when you say Lexapro users face so much physical hardship. The pain and dysfunction this drug has caused is heinous. I drew up a list the other day of the symptoms I've experienced and there were over 75!

I'm sure you won't have the extremes that I've seen because you are giving your receptors time to heal via a slow taper. Keep the course! You can do it. Imagine the celebration at the end!

9/2006 Began Lexapro

1/2014 Began taper from 15mg

Cut dose by 2.5 mg every two weeks or until stabilized

5/25/2014 Last dose

Experienced: Anxiety/depression, intrusive thoughts, dizziness, de-personalization, mood swings, stomach pains, nausea, headaches, gastro upset, anger, many spells of brain fog, chills, water retention, hypoglycemia, heart palpitations, weight gain, light headedness, muscle constriction - jaw, chest, neck, cortisol surges waking me several times at night with heart racing, blurry eyesight / visual snow, neuropathic pain, burning/numbness in hands and feet, muscle twitching, light sensitivity, sinuses, temperature disregulation, ear zaps, FEAR, hopelessness, doom and gloom, muscle spasms and tension across whole body, low energy, apathy, depression, constant post nasal drip, ear pain, jaw pain and cracking, tooth pain, burning/tingling/numbing, right rib cage pain FOREVER, lymph congestion, hypersensitivity to many foods and many supplements, bladder/ urination issues, creaky bones, sallow, yellow skin on hands/feet, emotional dysregulation, back pain, vivid dreams, mucus, peeling lips.

What's left: Low energy some days, muscle pain, hormone imbalance, GI stuff here and there, eye floaters, peeling, red lips.

Greentrain,

Thank you very much for dropping by and the kind encouragement!

I am so happy to hear you are doing so much better!!!! This is the best news for all of us! It surely gives me hope too. I can imagine how bumpy the road you already passed and your strength is a great example for me!

You are so kind of saying that about my staying on the course! I actually feel a bit embarrassed for being such a coward in terms of changing drugs. I have a huge fear deep down in my heart about the potential breakdown. I don't know why, maybe it's because I'm a single mom and have to be somewhat functional to hold the family.

Yes, looking forward to the day we are all free of these poisons and get our full lives bacK!

Hugs,

Lex

Update,

I would love to borrow the word DANCING from another member saying I have been dancing with my daily lexapro dose these days.

I gradually switched the pace of my 12 hour daily dosing from morning to evening due to severe reaction from drops in the morning. This has been worked out by listening to my body for the max amount and speed it can handle.

The current schedule is like this, I still feel some strong reactions (brain weak/dead) to certain drops each day but they fade pretty quickly after 20 min or so. Overall I am having bearable symptoms with the schedule.

11am--1:30pm: 0.5mg

3-5pm: 1.5 mg

7-11pm: the rest ( about 1.5 mg)

I also made another drop of 0.1mg which didn't cause other bad symptoms so I'm at 2.9 mg now. The recent cut has been rather big and quick compared to my usual taper in the past year and half since dose increase. But I feel this is what my body tells me after a long hold of 4+ months from sep. 2015 through feb. 2016.

If this continues working, the plan is to do as faster taper as possible without bringing up bad WD symptoms by listening to my body.

A truly constant learning process and I now know what really it means for LISTENING TO YOUR BODY!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Lex

Hi Lex-- I'm so glad you've finally got a handle on this and it's working out well.

(((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

It's been 10 weeks since the start of faster tapering to reduce the side effect from drug reaction. Overall it has been the worst part of journey ever since.

So far I made it to 2.6 mg from 3.2mg in 10 weeks (15% cumulative reduction) cutting by 1 drop every few days. Each drop always had effect of lifting the heavy sluggish, DR, dreaming like, long sleeping and brain dead, swelling etc within 1-2 days, but only last for couple days so had to do another drop. The first few weeks the WD from each drop were tolerable but now the WD got very strong with brutal pain, pins and needles all over, too much to move further with drops. Most days and hours I was feeling very off and half coma like even I was walking or driving. There were couple days in between I felt functional or even symptoms free when I forgot about all the terror and pains.

the dosing reaction from each drop seems not as strong as before. I have to slow down with cutting dose and hope the drug reaction won't flare back with full force too soon.

As determined as I am to go through whatever the hell I am offered by this trauma, I'm still amazed I'm still going.

Never felt so defeated in life.

Thank you Poke and Brass for your continuous support!

I learned so much from you both being strong and patient. I am determined to follow your great example all the way to the end!

The pain subsided since yesterday. I will hold a bit longer if the drug side reaction won't get back too soon, and make smaller cut next time.

Hope your recent hiccup lessened Poke.

Wish the retirement provides relaxation for faster heal, Brass!

Oh, shouldn't miss the positive part of this experience. That even we feel the pain is absolutely unbearable and we can't survive, it actually doesn't kill us. Just wait and do nothing then at one point we up alive again. If we don't give up, eventually the evil will do.

HI there Lex, I thought I would make a start reading your journal and drop by!  It is so exasperating to read of yet another victim of these horrible drugs, put on them for things like headaches for yourself (for me it was pain).  I am happy to say, however that a year or so ago my daughter was put on a/d's for headaches also, but I warned her about it and she got counselling instead and was able to stop them.  The counselling also addressed the root issue of her problem and she has not looked back since!

I am only up to page 1 but wondered what happened with the Vit. B. high levels and whether you found out why?  I read that Vit B can be stimulating.  I have been taking it once a week for quite a while now and wonder if I should stop it.

I notice you were on an acid blocker (PPI) and when you stopped it you ran into lots of problems that you put down to w/d but I have read that it is just as hard coming off these ppi's as it is an a/d and wondered if you that was a lot of your trouble also.  Did you manage to stay off the blocker?

Hi Gradma, thanks for taking time reading my thread!

I'm so so happy for your daughter saving her life from staying away from the poison!

I have been taking some supplement back then that contains VB so after the test I stopped taking it. About one year later my Vb dropped back to normal. I haven't followed up with more tests since then.

I was taking PPI I for about 13 years, I tried many times before to stop it (cold turkey) and never succeed. In 2014, My physician decided for me to try a H2 blocker which he thinks a milder type of PPi so I made the direct switch. When I was on the blocker, I started feeling mild WD of ssir but didn't know the reason. It was an accident when one day I forgot to take it after 2 months then I found the heartburn didn't flare up later on that day (before I would feel it immediately), so I thought, oh ok, maybe I can try to see if I can stop taking it. Later that day, severe WD of ssir started when I suddenly put the two together as I remember I read an article about PPI can make ssir upto 50% stronger. Unfortunately I didn't reinstate the PPI, instead I continued 2 more weeks without the PPI Untll the WD of ssir got very bad. Guessing around the effect of PPI on SSIR, I increased lexapro dose from 2.7 to 3.7mg, felt complete normal for one week during a trip to Maui. The worse was I got a flu from the trip so I took pain killer for a few days then an unbearable tension headache started which made me added more lexapro to 4.5 ( I had similar experience with pain killer before and increasing dose fixed the problem). Ever since then, my symptoms spread wildly to all areas from the original pain only symptoms.

Surprisingly, the heart burn was gone just like that. I researched a lot trying to understand and found one article saying ssir can make the stomach PH value higher. Maybe that's why I'm ok stopping PPI with the effect of ssir. But that is a wild guess and can be a mystery forever.

I am following your update too even I don't make a sound often. I feel a lot similarities between what you are experiencing and my pattern of WD and drug side effects. I hope we both continue the journey smoothly and hit the bottom soon.

Hugs,

Lex

Hi Lex!

I just reread your thread for the last year. I am so glad you have been able to taper down to the amount you are on today. You know, like you, I cant hold the dose for very long, I feel so much worse. I think it's a kind of adverse reaction combined with wd. Dancing with the drug is the right word....it's so hard. Listening to the body is the key.

Sending healing thoughts your way, you are doing great.

Hugs!

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Hi Amy,

I am glad we get connected!  I just read your entire thread and found what you went through since last year is very much like what I am going through now, especially in dancing between WD and SE and how each drop helps with symptoms from long hold. I just started a weekly-like (5-7 day) tapering schedule (Tom's way as you referred to) making ~1.5% drop each cycle (5-7 days) after trying, analyzing, then trying, analyzing, then...

I am so thrilled for you being at 0.78mg now!

Best wishes to the smoothest journey down to zero!

Lex.  You are inspiring !    Listening to your body can be hard at times,  but you have it down to a fine art, now. " Dancing " with your Lexapro dose, seems to be working for you, even though you're still having increased symptoms, at times. It is a balancing act between withdrawal and side effects, but you are managing it so well. I hope the rest of your taper goes smoothly.

Best wishes,

Ali

Hi Ali,

You are so kind to provide encouragement to me along my journey! I appreciate your kind words too! The truth is I am pushed to the last corner by this crazy lexapro and my heart simply doesn't want to take risk of introducing another ssir.

I agree with you that even I suffered quite a lot, I feel some achievement with the reduced dose and faster taper schedule.

I'm glad you are seeing some improvement lately. You are almost there like Amy, right in the turning point to final and full healing!

I'm looking forward to more of great update from you.

Hey Lex,

I am sorry you are dealing with dizziness. no fun at all.

I understand well about the effects of cutting dose. I am familiar with the dizziness/veritgo/nausea symptoms. They were very bad and constant for a couple of yrs. I cant believe i lived with that almost daily. Now only happens during an aggravation or briefly when I make a reduction.

I am also in a more consistent reduction pattern these past few months.  I find I am at a point where I have to cut the dose since the longer I hold the more the side effects increase. So I am making a 1% cut every 2-3 weeks. I havent tried anything higher. mostly i stay 10 - 14 days at a dose. sometimes i hold another week until the side effects increase. I am hoping that i will be able to increase to 1.5 or 2% cuts one day but not going to push it.

Also, I have been dealing with a lot of work stress these past few months and have been sick with every cold that passes thru the office. This is not my usual pattern and has me concerned. but i think it is stress related.

So - time to return to my daily relaxation/meditation practice. When I do it I feel much better overall. Do you do any relaxation practice?

I hope you are doing ok today ~~
