Burning skin, burning feet

Thanks, RS. It could also be that since you restricted your diet, you're not eating a food to which you have a sensitivity. Or, it could be sugar or carbs or increased folate from increased vegetable intake.

Does anyone else have a burning face?  My seems to extend down from the back of my head over my forehead to my chin.  The burning areas move from my nose to my cheeks and up to my forehead.  Sometimes all those areas are affected along with feeling extreme tightness and numbness.  Does anyone else have this?

Is this a sign of atypical Trigeminal neuralgia?  It is so intense and causes a lot of agitation in the face.  I just want to rip my face off!  Can anyone else relate?

Mid 2014 - June 2016 (~ 2.5 yrs): sertraline 75mg. Under advice of my Pysch NP, weaned off in 1 month

Sept 2017 - Feb 2017 (6 months): Latuda (dose 20mg up to 80mg). Under advice of Psych NP, weaned off in 6 weeks (Jan - mid Feb). Tirtated down 20mg every 2 weeks.

Nov 2017 - Feb 2017 (3 months): lamictal 100mg. Abruptly taken off. This was the "wean": 100mg, 50mg, then off

Feb 2017: sertraline 150mg for 1 week to bring me out of a severe suicidal depression. Abruptly stopped due to serotonin syndrome. Tried to reinstate 50mg a week later, but the serotonin syndrome symptoms came back. Not possible to reinstate sertraline.

March 2017: remeron 7.5mg. Took one dose that knocked me out for two days. Refused to take it again

February 2017 - March 2017: Ativan 1mg. Took 5 pills total spread out over the course of 3 weeks. No longer taking it.

6/16/18 - 6/26: celexa 1.25mg

6/27/18 - 6/29: celexa 2.5mg, 6/29 had burning and agitation within 30min of dose

6/30/18 - present: celexa 1.25mg

I’ve been taking potassium for 30 days now and wanted to give my thoughts on whether it is helping with the burning skin. The answer is I think it is helping but I don’t know for sure.

I have had burning skin for over a year and it had been continuous. For the first part of the year it had gone from severe to moderate.   About a week prior to starting the potassium it had diminished yet again to the point where it was mild, but still continuous.  I started the potassium and it continued to decrease and about a week after starting the potassium it was mild but intermittent, and then the good news, it went to the point where I had nothing at all. No burning skin for a few days.  So the question is was that the potassium or was it just the continuation of the downward curve? I wish I had a definitive answer for this question.

I did a taper 22 days after starting the potassium and the burning skin returned however it was not as bad as prior tapers. I have burning skin now but it is mild and intermittent. I am ten days into this present taper so I’ll see what happens in the next week.

So to recap, I think it's helping but I don't know for sure. I bought a sixty-day supply of potassium so I will check in again in thirty more days.

Thank you for the update.  Very good to hear you have found relief.  My burning is now mostly in  my feet.   Eating a banana a day.  My main symptoms now are agitation, toxic sleep (wake in panic) and depression.

All the best to you.

Very interesting, RachelSusan and Dave. Well, at least the potassium doesn't seem to hurt.

Yeah, burning feet are totally annoying. They burn especially at night, when I put them into bed. I have had these burning sensations for over 9 months with no windows, when they stop, I will be well underway with recovery

November 2014 - September 2015: Zoloft 50 mg, Trilafon 4mg, clonazepam 1mg
October 2015 - September 2016: Effexor 75 mg
September 2016 - January 2017: Effexor 150 mg
Stopped Effexor in March 2017 after tapering under medical supervision
The doctor I've now found is an expert in withdrawal from ADs
Persistent withdrawal syndrome since July 2017: Prozac 10 mg, clonazepam 0.5 mg, to cope with it.
December 2017 -  withdrawing from Prozac, 10 mg every 2 days
Drug free since January (?) 2018

Symptoms: pins and needles, burning skin sensations, PSSD, OCD, mood swings (a lot), malaise (a lot), muscle spasms, voice in my conscience.

Doing not so bad, but I want to be the person I was.

Do any of you have signs of the burning?  Are your hands or feet red?  I have burning from going off Paxil (but then reinstating) and then tapering zoloft (and then reinstating).  Also, have any of you reinstated with reduction in withdrawal symptoms??

- for 16 years took: morning: lexapro 10 mg, wellbutrin xl 150mg; evening: paxil 2.5 mg, zoloft 25mg

- feb 22:  tried to change and decreased paxil to 1.25 and zoloft to 50 and experienced eurphoria and possible mania, needed less sleep, etc.

- decreased zoloft back to 25 over 2 weeks and decreased paxil to 0

- withdrawal started a few days later and increased paxil back to 1.25 - stabilized but flat after a couple days (eventually got paxil back to 2.5)

- also took levaquin for possible prostatitis

- never really improved and we tried deplin, different formulations of generics and brand names

- Mid June 2019 lost the ability to sleep completely

- 7/1/19 cold turkeyed in hospital off 2.5 paxil and shortly thereafter 25 zoloft, titrated lithium up to 1200 but settled at 900mg

- 8/10/19 tried 12.5 lexapro for 2 weeks with disastrous sensitivities

- 8/26/19 and currently: morning: 10 mg lexapro, 150 wellbutrin xl; evening: lithium 900 mg (Took klonopin for wknd)
9/20 tapered to 780mg lithium from 900mg - hypomania almost immediately, tinnitus, dizziness, pain, burning, freezing cold

- 9/29 reinstated to 900mg lithium

Yeah i get that, I call it 'leg tension'. I find it really unpleasant, and often worry (probably unduly) that it'll turn into full blown akathisia. I seem to have some weeks where I get a lot and others where its not really there. How often do you get it?

I used to get what i called boiling 'water foot' where it felt like my right foot (always only my right) was being filled up with hot water. Ive not had it for 5 months or so though.

Citalopram. Briefly early twenties, no ill effects seemingly. Don't remember dose.

Sertraline on and off for ten years.  I was ignorant and started and stopped frequently. Doses of 50, 75 and 100. I can not recall/did not record dates prior to 2018.

JANUARY 2018: Last period of use was was 150mg of sertraline on 14/01/18  (which triggered extreme depression and anxiety that never settled, amongst other symptoms). I then tapered to 100mg in March (15/03/18), then down to 75mg in April(01/04/18) , 50mg later (11/04/18) 25mg in May  (16/05/18),  and was at 0mg in June (02/06/18).

Mirtazapine 15mg 01/08/18- 02/10/18, 15mg (6 weeks at 15mg the two week taper). - caused deeply unpleasant waves of extreme anxiety, depression, zombie state and mania.

Still on 40mg of Propranolol twice a day since April 2018. Supplements: Fish oil, Magnesium, Vit B6

Oh yeah I know that one quite well my father was on it for like 4 years it was quite difficult for him to come out  I had to sleep in the same room so I make sure he doesn’t hurt himself during violent nightmares  can’t recall much about the term of his symptoms but I guess it was a very hard medication to come off

my problem is that burning sensation that never ceases it comes in waves my shrink just put me on pristiq and Latuda to allievqte my anxiety and my severe insomnia but I haven’t started yet really scared to death  I am in zoplicone  and Xanax .25 mg whenever I am anxious

how are you dealing with the burning and tingling stinging sensations if I may ask

Hey there

I have that too on my face mostly sometimes one cheek is hotter than other ...it circulates to the back of my. neck and my back it is extremely annoying get worse with exertion and anxiety

ha ha Fresh... my dog would NEVER get off my bed then - she would be snuffling at the bags..

i am positive now that the burning feet is a withdrawal effect for me and interestingly is one of the only physical one i get regularly - the other being muscle twitching as i am going off to sleep.. i took a 5% reduction the other day and two days later my feet are burning.

@peggy Hi Did that burning eventually go away once you adjusted (in order to taper again)?  I switched name brand to generic lexapro and I got the burning.  I have never “seen it through” as I always end up having to reinstate.  Does it settle down?  Just want some hope.  Thanks!

Has anyone had a burning sensation in the face--like being flushed. It's hot to the touch too. What could this be?

Hi Finn- Yes! For the last week or so I have what feels like a flush of heat in my face. It lasts for less than a minute and it's not unpleasant, just really weird. Tends to wake me up a couple of times each night. I thought I might be going through "the Change" but it coincides with the beginning of tapering off effexor, which I started a month ago. Pleased to hear someone else is experiencing this.

37.5 effexor XR commenced approx 2004

Commenced taper October 2019 (counting beads to reduce by 10% per month)

About 20 mg effexor XR March 2020 + fish oil, Magnesium, Vit C
