phijo trouble with olanzapine

Somebody please help I'm in Canada and I'm on teva olanzapine.

I was on it since October 2013 at 20 my now I had to over a month had to go down to 5mg. When I'm at 5mg my heart races and blood pressure drops to low 90s which is why I had to quickly reduce it. I went to the lowest tablet 2.5 and my heart went fine BP went to 137 over 98 with a pulse of 85. So last night I took a 2.5 mg tablet and a half. All doctors have wash their hand of it. My psych. Says BP and heart rate not her problems. She said to take 2.5mg of olanzapine for a week while going on some other drug at 2.5mg.

I'm concerned if I get low BP at 5mg and heart pains 5mg of olanzapine that 25mg of another antipsychotics might cause severe problems.

How do I do 10% reduction as opposed to just splitting the 2.5mg tablet. As my BP is going up to fast.

I need smaller reductions.

Hopefully I survive this.

Don't want my BP to get any higher.

Help please.

Could you explain your situation in more detail? How long were you on 20mg? Why did you stop reducing? How fast? Generally, Zuprexa lowers the blood pressure, and lowering it too quickly would raise the blood pressure. Could this be happening?

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

I was on 10th or 25mg since October 2013

My blood pressure is too low at 5mg and too high at 2.5mg or one and a half of a 2.5 mg tablet will it kill me.

How high is your blood pressure? Can you make a signature of your drug history? What happens at 1 3/4 tablets of 2.5mg tablets?

I see BP 137/85? That is not serious in withdrawing. How do you know your BP is low?

It is 137 over 98.

Pharmacy won't help with anything.

Should I just try to split them four ways.

I'm achy and having problems with my stomach.

Please bear with me.

As doctors won't help here in Canada.

Cannot stay on it.

BP at 5mg dropped to 93 over 65 and dropping more everyday.

At 2.5mg it was 137 over 98 and rising everyday.

The ppsychiatrist wants to give me another med at 25mg. I worry if it will cause serotonin toxicity.

How did you do it.

phijo, it sounds like the drop to 2.5mg was too much for you, and that's why you're having the blood pressure and stomach issues. A very small amount more, such as 3mg, might hit the happy medium.

You must be able to read this site to understand the instructions. Can you use a tablet or computer to read the olanzapine tapering topic? http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/3743-tips-for-tapering-off-zyprexa-olanzapine/

Please answer the questions that are being asked.  We can't help if we don't understand your situation.

The drug you're taking is an atypical antipsychotic, not a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI), so I don't think there's any need to worry about serotonin syndrome.

You  may find this topic helpful:  How to Make a Liquid from Tablets or Capsules .  A liquid suspension would make it easier to divide a tablet with reasonable accuracy.

Blood pressure readings can vary a lot from one reading to another, and 137/98 is high, but not really terrible. In addition, I suspect a lot of your problem is being so upset. Do your best to calm down.  Do some deep breathing or gentle exercise.

Welcome to the forum.

I talked to a pharmacy that can maybe make a compound. Maybe the psychiatrist will work with me for the prescription.

Maybe 4mg might do or maybe there's no way around the symptoms

Very gradual tapering, as described in the olanzapine tapering topic, may prevent withdrawal symptoms such as blood pressure irregularities.

It's absolutely necessary that you be able to read these links we've given you.

Serotonin syndrome is tied in with olanzapine especially when taken with others mess.

My body is rejecting the olanzapine otherwise I would have just stayed at 5 or 10 mg.

It did this with re spiritual constantly they injected me with it.

My doctor just cut me off it but that leaves the system slowly.

I bet in the states they have this method with olanzapine.

They are related drugs. They both can be injected.

I don't know what to do went down to 2.5mg and my blood pressure dropped to 90/63 and did not feel well like my heart was giving out.

Only slept 4 hours and I dropped dosage because of my blood pressure my BP the next day got even lower. What if I have to stop tomorrow altogether. Tried before wasn't good.

My psychiatrist wants me to stop today the olanzapine and start loxapine tonight.

Don't know if that is as great a risk for hypotension.

Any thoughts.

If you can't read the links we provided, this site won't be of any help to you. You need to understand how to prepare small doses of the drug.

phijo, if you can 't gather the information to make decisions about your own care, you don't have much choice but to go by what the doctor tells you.

No one here, especially me, can tell you what to do. You need to make the decisions yourself.

I don't know if switching drugs will help the low blood pressure. My guess is it's a withdrawal symptom and that increasing the olanzapine slightly, perhaps to 3mg, might help without triggering the bad side effects of olanzapine. That's just my guess, I'm not a doctor.

BUT -- if you can't read the olanzapine topic, you won't be able to measure 3mg. So it's up to you.
