Hi all ,  please could you take a minute to sign this petition about making Black Box warnings on ad's compulsory , like they are in the U.S.   A Black Box warning says clearly that this medication may cause suicidal ideation and actions.

The petition is on change.org on Facebook. I can't link it without it going to my f/b page , sorry.

Perhaps someone good with computers could help?

A Black Box Warning is the strictest warning put in the labeling of prescription medications when there is reasonable evidence of an association of a serious hazard with the medication; it appears on a prescription medication’s label and is designed to call attention to serious or life-threatening risks such as suicidal tendencies, addiction, withdrawal and a long list of other adverse side effects often resulting in injury or death. With Black Box Warnings available to the patient they can weigh up if the medication risks outweigh the benefits of treatment.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA has had Black Box Warnings for many years but still we don’t have them in Australia. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is failing to protect the Australian public by not having Black Box Warnings on medications.

It is our right to be informed of Black Box Warnings on our prescription medication labels when we obtain our scripts from our pharmacies for our own safety and the wellbeing of the Australian public.

Looks like Drayton Sher lawyers australia are taking names of children and adolescents put on these drugs in a separate suit.

http://www.smh.com.au/national/glaxosmithkline-to-face-class-action-over-antidepressant-used-on-children-20160311-gngt7n.html

"

Mr Nikolic is calling for anyone who was, as a minor, prescribed Paroxetine - which also traded under a number of generic names including Chemmart Paroxetine, Extine, GenRx Paroxetine, Paroxetine Actavis and Terry White Chemists Paroxetine - to come forward if they experienced side effects."

Go Drayton Sher.

Hi Pattycat and Yogagirl ,   it would be terrific if you could sign the Black Box Warning petition , maybe share it on your

facebook page?

If you're interested , you're welcome to join the "welcoming committee" in the Introductions section.

We think it's really important that all new members get a fairly prompt acknowledgment of their new thread and a warm welcome.

See the thread on "Helping out Newbies"  here  http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/8098-helping-out-with-the-newbies-lets-clear-up-confusion-about-advice/?hl=newbies

Or , if you're coming to Sydney ,  could you come help me get my garden tidied up ?   It's all overgrown what with the rain and neglect.

Is there a list anywhere of therapists/psychologists/counsellors/OTs (someone qualified) who has a non-drug bent? I can't find one. Is there an Aussie list? Or is it just a matter of making a list and a bunch of phone calls? Might be, I can do that.

Feeling okay, this is a being a bit proactive. :)

Cheers

Hi bubbles , we may be able to help but you'll need to let us know what city or town you're in.

Doctors who understand tapering seem to be like hen's teeth . . . . few and far between.

Hi fellow Aussies. Just popping in to say hi as I'm new. I'm located in Brisbane and have just begun tapering off Cymbalta, following the 10%-less-each-month approach for now.

That Mindspot course looks potentially relevant to my interests (I'm mostly doing fine so far but have had to wrestle through a few anxious spots which make me think I should look into recommended methods of dealing with anxiety lest it come on worse). Thanks for that link!

Hello Tootired

Did you end up trying the Mindspot course? Did you find it useful?

Hey bubbles. Nah, I didn't. Barrier to entry just slightly too high. I think I filled in the questionnaire then baulked at the getting-in-touch-with-someone issue, then never went back. Helps that my WD side effects have disappeared for the moment!

Hey all you Sydneysiders!

OMG Kelly Brogan is coming to Sydney May 20-22 at the MINDD conference!

http://mindd.org/mif16-speakers/

It's pricey - $430 for all 3 days, or $150 per session (at a quick glance)

But - if it were in my backyard - I'd probably move heaven and earth to get there.

Fangirl swooon......

Hey everyone!

Joined the forum yesterday - really happy to have found like minded souls to chat with.

I live about 2 hours away from Sydney and began my taper of Lithium last week.

This site is a godsend. I thought I was going to have to do my taper all alone but now feel very much a part of a very understanding crew.

Thanks and have a good night!

Hey Bridget,

I've been on a court order for abilify injections for the last year and am still struggling to get off it... in NSW

Do you have any tips you could share on what to say to get them to stop renewing the CTO?

Hi everyone,

I'm from Melbourne and trying to taper off medication (10mg Paroxetine). Can anyone recommend a good melbourne based practitioner to help/support with the 10% decreases of SSRI's?

Best wishes to everyone x

Hello Paroxetinelady,    welcome!   I am sure there a good minded doctors in Melbourne,   I am in Western Australia, AND NONE HERE?          Anyway, I am educating my GP,  he is really cool, but dont see him very much, as not well enough yet, but he gives me any scripts I want :).     And always good to keep a doctor in the loop, so to speak,  so someone in the medical world knows where you are at.

My gp was the bastard who gave me the valium, that sent me nuts, and started this nightmare.................    he didnt know, he does now :)

All I know about paxil is it is particularly nasty.          With my tablets now  (seroquel), I am getting a compounding pharmacist to make my pills accurate,  I find the lower you get, the more accurate the dose needs to be.   My pharmacist charges $100 for 100 pills,   but I conned him into a discount   I get 100 pills for $80.                I think Fresh knows of cheaper compounding pharmacists.    Always good to get the pills ready before you start cutting,   I know because my brain goes real wonky!

However,  if you can get liquid paxil, well done,  easier to get dose right..........               And also a switch from one brand to another,  ie to liquid,  let that settle, before you start the cuts,  treat it as a cut.

Oh,  is paxil the only thing you are on?   Please list all medications, even if you dont think they are relevant..............

Oh Cayperz,  I read something really great about lithium,  how one type of lithium is so much better than the other type, and the type we get on prescription, IS THE NASTY ONE!

Anyhow the article was not relevant for me,  as I wont touch lithium,,      never wanted to try it, eventually go prescribed it and it sent me off like the HULK,   turned me nasty, I dont normally break things!  So that one is a no no for me.

Anyway, research the different types of lithium,  just for interests sake, if lithium worked for you, maybe you could wean over to the healthier alternative.  Maybe someone else has better advice than me?   I think the healthy lithium is like health food store stuff.                                     (Psychiatrists dont tell us these things, do they?).
