I am in Reno, Nv, 25 miles from Calif. I would like to be included, if possible. Thanks, Alto.

I started withdrawing off remeron in August of 2009, with the help of a holistic physician. The reason for the withdrawal was a year or two of off and on nausea, deterioration in my thinking, and more depression. It took me a full year to work from 135 mg down to 45mg. At that point, more drops were causing more depression. Unfortuately, the nervousness that I was also feeling for the last year continued with the 45 mg. Thirty one days ago, I stopped the remeron. I am still feeling the nervousness every day and the last week, I am feeling what I think is depression but not sure. In bed in the morning, I'm already dreading another day feeling this way. I am intensely unsure of myself and find it very hard to do anything. I was a practicing veterinarian for 29 years until I found I could not practice anymore. First of all I couldn't think, or remember, and I had absolutely no confidence in anything I did. These were things I did with relative ease for twenty+ years. So, this feeling of no confidence has been during the time I was on the AD(the last 2 years) and today. I take no other medication other than my blood pressure meds. I tried supplements with my holistic dr. but they seemed to make the intense nervousness even more intense. Anyway, I truly feel stuck.

Los Angeles

On and off SSRI and SNRI meds since 1996

1996-2001: Prozac, then Effexor (discontinued 2001)

2008-2010: Cymbalta (discontinued 2010 for pregnancy attempts)

5/2011: Started Lexapro 10 mg for anxiety/panic. Adjusted dose down to 7.5 mg and did great.

3/2014: Life is good, I am stable... time to get off the meds again -- should be no big deal, right? Such a low dose...

Lexapro taper: One month to come down from 7.5 mg by 33% decreases... 7.5 mg to 5 mg, then 5 mg to 2.5 mg, then 2.5 mg every other day (bad idea), experienced nausea and GI upset that I thought was a stomach bug... then

4/14/14: discontinued Lexapro and began several weeks of confusion, panic, nausea, dizziness, joint pain, hoarseness, etc.

5/1/14: reinstated Lexapro at 1 mg or as close to that as I can get, with 5 mg tablets and a pill splitter.  Felt improved by the next day, not great, but improved.

LexAnger and Reality Check,

Do you know any knowledgeable docs in LA or Southern CA? I've been off of Pristiq and Vyvanse (fast taper and CT) for over 3 years and still doing poorly. Situational/lifestyle factors are big components. Vicious circle.

My apologies if I'm using this forum inappropriately.

Dr. Shipko has not returned my messages/calls.

Sorry Barbara, I never used any psyc doc until later year starting WD symptoms. The doc I went had no clue at all and acknowledged he does not know how to help. I also thought about dr shipko but after reading online patient review I gave up. In my opinion, there are very few docs if any are really experienced in this area as they were not trained in school and most have problems believing patients feeling about WD. I tried Point of Return program it may have helped with lessening symptoms but did not help enough for me to continue tapering at 2.5 mg lexapro. I'm now considering Road Back supplement. I will get it in couple of days and will let you know how much that helps.

so far I feel most knoledgable people are the ones with own experience of similar symptoms especially those did lots of own research like alto.

Sorry about your situation. I'm as bad as yours even still on the med. I know it's a disparate feeling but do hope you are close to the end of the tunnel. As per some other successful stories, it can take up to 4-6 years after stopping to completely heal.

I don't mind if you'd like to have direct contact with me even just for emotional support. If we are close to each other geographically, we can even meet.

If it helps your perspective at all, you are in a much better position because you have found this site and are still tapering. I'm off some of the drugs, but did it completely wrong. I was also on excessive polypharmacy for 15+ years. I wish I still had the option to adjust my dose, but I don't.

I am so sorry to know your story and your feeling that way. It seems to me the psyc drug can be as damaging as withdrawing from it

Basically, once you are on, you will be in an unknown world potentially leading to various misery paths.

I'm not quite sure I know the meaning of PM. Can you explain a bit more? I can share my personal email or even phone number with you if that's What you meant.

Yeah, it seems your situation can be more complicated with multiple medications. But with the experience of dealing with

The psyc meds, we can still help/ support each other better than anyone else as its very difficult for others to even have a clue to

Understand the basics.

A piffle compared to what we have in the way of quakes up here at the triple juntion-the Pacific plate, the North American plate and the Juan de Fuca plate shaking up things on a irregular basis.   The 10.0 is 100 years overdue.  Historically, that is.

I've experienced quakes everywhere I've lived in California; Long Beach, the Central Valley and now up here in Humbolt County.  Hurricanes and tornados freak me out!  If an earthquake takes me out, so be it.

Slow tapers ever since of Seroquel & Lamictal.  crippling muscle spasms. crying fits. panic attacks. akathisia. nerve twitches. the jitters. the heebie jeebies. de-personal/realization. numbness. tingling. fatigue. lethargy. nightmares.insomnia. weird images. eye pain.vertigo. dizziness. brain zaps. and on and on and on. withdrawal? side effects? which drug? impossible to know. Stopped Seroquel October 2015.  Stopped Lamictal  March 2016. Had more severe muscle/joint spasms that paralyzed me for 3 days at a time, last episode was March 2017.Going back to work as of February 2018 after 14 years off full-time work due to the crippling effects of psych meds. Check out Robert Whittaker "Anatomy of an Epidemic" for  his breakdown of the rates of mental disability  since the introduction of Prozac into the human population. Best solutions for me: Social support via AA meetings. Acupuncture. Meditation. Dance. Nature. Yoga. Social support online with psych med survivor community. Nutrition. Exercise. More outdoor time. 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Previous brief history with Celexa, Wellbutrin (2007? for smoking cessation), one month on Lamictal in 2009, one month on Remeron 2009. Prescribed Cymbalta approximately 2009 initially at 60 mg then 30 mg and finally 20 mg.

January of 2014 was changed to generic then in February of 2014 I missed two days = severe withdrawal (suicidal thoughts, uncontrollable crying, isolation, etc). February 2014- switched back to name brand Cymbalta and started tapering from 20 mg by counting beads.  Average rate was about ten beads every 1-2 weeks

Approx July 2014 - slowed down taper, removed 3-5 beads every 1-2 weeks.

October 9,2014 - 13 beads/ January 1, 2015 - 12 beads/ February 13, 2015 - 11 beads/March 13, 2015- 10 beads

May 17- 9 beads/ June 20, 2015 - 8 beads/ October 8, 2015 - 7 beads

Supplements:  Vitamin E, fish oil, magnesium. cod liver oild-ribose, sunflower lecithin, DMAE, choline, inositol, ubiquinol coQ10, B-complex vitamin D3

2009: Cancer hospital said I had adjustment disorder because I thought they were doing it wrong. Their headshrinker prescribed Effexor, and my life set on a new course. I didn't know what was ahead, like a passenger on Disneyland's Matterhorn, smiling and waving as it climbs...clink, clink, clink.

2010: Post surgical accidental Effexor discontinuation by nurses, masked by intravenous Dilaudid. (The car is balanced at the top of the track.) I get home, pop a Vicodin, and ...

Whooosh...down, down, down, down, down...goes the trajectory of my life, up goes my mood and tendency to think everything is a good idea.
2012: After the bipolar jig was up, now a walking bag of unrelated symptoms, I went crazy on Daytrana (the Ritalin skin patch by Noven), because ADHD was a perfect fit for a bag of unrelated symptoms. I was prescribed Effexor for the nervousness of it, and things got neurological. An EEG showed enough activity to warrant an epilepsy diagnosis rather than non-epileptic ("psychogenic") seizures.

:o 2013-2014: Quit everything and got worse. I probably went through DAWS: dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome. I drank to not feel, but I felt a lot: dread, fear, regret, grief: an utter sense of total loss of everything worth breathing about, for almost two years.

I was not suicidal but I wanted to be dead, at least dead to the experience of my own brain and body.

2015: I  began to recover after adding virgin coconut oil and organic grass-fed fed butter to a cup of instant coffee in the morning.

I did it hoping for mental acuity and better memory. After ten days of that, I was much better, mood-wise. Approximately neutral.

And, I experienced drowsiness. I could sleep. Not exactly happy, I did 30 days on Wellbutrin, because it had done me no harm in the past.

I don't have the DAWS mood or state of mind. It never feel like doing anything if it means standing up.

In fact, I don't especially like moving. I'm a brain with a beanbag body.

On 20 mg of Prozac for about ten years. Sept 2012 started reducing 10% a drop using gram scale, with average of one month holds.

When I'd reached the half way mark, taking 10 mg  powder out of the 20 mg capsules, I switched over to 10 mg capsules and cutting

down from those. Withdrawals got harder the lower I dropped.  May 2013 changed to 5% drops, holding until all withdrawal symptoms gone.

January 2015 changed to liquid prozac (concentration of 20MG per 5 mL) using a 1mL oral syringe.

Current dose of fluoxetine solution equivalent 3.4 mg. Any effort to drop below this has been disastrous so for the time being I'm staying at this level.
Adding 200 mg Tryptophan and 200 GABA a day has helped with anxiety.
Also take 1,300mg Omega- 3,  875mg  Magnesium, 1800mg Curcumin, 1000mg Vit C, 5000 Vit D.

thirding.

from 2005-2012, i spent 7 years taking 17 different psychotropic medications covering several classes.  i would be taking 3-7 medications at a time, and 6 out of the 17 medications listed below were maxed or overmaxed in clinical dosage before i moved on to trying the next unhelpful cocktail.

antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, NDRIs, tetracyclics): zoloft, wellbutrin, effexor, lexapro, prozac, cymbalta, remeron
antipsychotics (atypical): abilify, zyprexa, risperdal, geodon
sleep aids (benzos, off-label antidepressants & antipsychotics, hypnotics): seroquel, temazepam, trazodone, ambien
anxiolytics: buspar
anticonvulsants: topamax

i tapered off all psychotropics from late 2011 through early 2013, one by one.  since quitting, ive been cycling through severe, disabling withdrawal symptoms spanning the gamut of the serious, less serious, and rather worrisome side effects of these assorted medications.  previous cross-tapering and medication or dosage changes had also caused undiagnosed withdrawal symptoms.
