Me, too!! I'm in a Houston suburb!! Sounds awesome, Alto!!

Down to 18.75 mg from 150 mg Effexor & doing a lot better than when I found this site in February.

Kudos to Alto & all the mods.

Anne

Oncologist prescribed Effexor 37.5 for hot flashes after my dx of breast cancer in December 2011. Up dosed to 75 then 150 XR before it worked. Decided to come off after my naturopath/nutritionist gave me a couple of supplements that worked on the hot flashes. Started weaning November 2013 from 150. Got down to 37.5 by mid-February 2014--WAY TOO FAST!! Found this site and am now going much slower. WD side effects are much better--still there-- but manageable. Lesson learned the hard way!!

Short RX for Xanax prescribed for PPD/anxiety after childbirth in 1985--about 3 months--can't remember dosage.

Effexor 150 XR March 2012dates are fuzzy)

Started taper November 2013

Mid February 2014--28 mg; 3/22/14--24 mg; 4/19/14--18.75 mg; 5/14/14--14.1 mg; 6/11/14--11.7 mg; 7/2/14--9.4 mg; 7/23/14--7.8 mg; 8/18/14--6.25 mg; 9/7/14--4.7 mg; 9/21/14--3.75 mg; 10/5/14--3.125 mg; 10/12/14 --2.56 mg; 10/19/14-2.34 mg; 10/26/14--1.56 mg; 11/2/14--1 mg; 11/9/14--.5 mg; 11/16/14--0 mg.

I live in Texas. SW Austin area, near the Y at Oak Hill. Where I live is important since getting around the city has never been more difficult due to all the newcomers overwhelming the infrastructure and making old timers like me very crabby.

I'm in San Marcos, TX!

I've been off Cymbalta (60 mg daily) cold turkey since 30 Nov 15.  Muscle cramps, malaise, crying jags, anger, heart palpitations, fear, fear, fear.

Reinstated with duloxetine 60 mg every other day sometime in December, 2015 and added Viibryd at 10 mg for a week, then 20 mg daily.  Tummy problems and nausea began.

Started taper by taking out one bead from capsule of duloxetine per dose every other day for 4 weeks.  Tummy problems and nausea subsided.  Spasms in legs and eyelids.

Continued taper by taking out 3 beads per dose every other day for 4 weeks.

Continued taper by taking out 6 beads per dose every other day for 4 weeks.

Continued taper by taking out 10 beads per dose every two days as of today 5/25/16.

Rework taper by taking out 10 beads per dose and taking every day as of tomorrow 5/26/16.

1996 to Dec 2015 Various SSRIs and what only amounts to living in a nightmare

Dec 15th Began tapering from 40mg Prozac to my current dose today (5mg Prozac)  My body has had a severe reaction to it since about 2003 but I did not realize the Rx was causing it until I read the book Prozac Backlash in Dec and began tapering.  My Parkinsonian Symptoms are going away with the DC of the Prozac and has given me extraordinary relief however I've noticed a few mood swings to say the least.

My story is in my introduction thread, but just FYI, I live in Southwest Houston, TX.

John

1989 -1995: Nortriptlyline, then Zoloft.  1997: New psych Dr. T; ‘Weaned’ off Zoloft; medication carousel next 3 years.

1998-1999: Open heart surgery; divorce; prostate cancer treatment.

1999-2001:  Horrible period, new psych Dr. B; hospitalizations, ECT; medication carousel: Paxil, Zyprexa, Lithobid, Depakote, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Nortriptyline, Lamictal, Serzone, Seroquel (what a mess).

January 2001, new psych Dr. R, whom I have been with ever since.  He saved my life after a long period of experimentation. Seroquel as high as 600mg; added Remeron & Paxil.

Stable last several years: Quetiapine 75mg, Mirtazapine 45mg, Paroxetine 30 mg, Clorazepate 3.75mg, L-methylfolate (Deplin) 15mg

2015: Weaned off of Quetiapine completely over several months; no problems.

Paroxetine: 10/6/2015 - 30mg -> 20mg; 11/24/2015 - 20mg -> 15mg; 12/14/2015 -15mg -> 10mg; 1/29/2016 -10mg -> 5mg; 2/25/2016 5mg -> zero.  All under psychiatrist supervision. No ill effects seen so far as of 12/22/2016.   Continuing Mirtazapine and L-methylfolate.

I have lost about 22 lbs. (207->185) over the last year or so; probably Paroxetine discontinuation (leptin effect).

I'm getting desperate. I can't stand feeling like this anymore. I feel like my brain is attacking itself and it's not getting any better. It's already been 9 months for me since my C/T and I haven't made ANY improvement.

Is anyone from the Dallas, Texas area that can offer some advice on a doctor that I can go see that understands withdrawal?

The only thing keeping me from trying to reinstate is the fear that it could make me worse.

  1. Started Wellbutrin 75 mg IR the end of 2015.
  2. Tried quitting cold turkey in June 30th- July 3rd 2017.
  3. Had severe withdrawals.
  4. Was placed on Wellbutrin 100mg SR so I could taper without withdrawal.
  5. Stabilized on 100mg SR for most of the month of July.
  6. Started tapering on July 17th,  2017.
  7. Completed taper on August 8th, 2017.
  8. Currently experiencing severe withdrawal.
  • Symptoms- Currently experiencing anhedonia, depersonalization/derealization, concentration/memory issues, chronic congestion, chronic dry eyes, dry skin, dislocated TMJ joint from teeth grinding during C/T withdrawal, waves of depression, anxiety, nausea, morning cortisol spikes, insomnia, agitation, food sensitivities, no tolerance for caffeine and chronic fatigue, burning muscle pain in upper and lower back and occasional tinninitus.
  • Supplements- Omega-3 fish oil supplement twice daily, 100 mg of magnesium once daily.

Hey Hellbutrin.

I don't know any doctors or psychiatrists from that area who understand AD withdrawal. The most well known doctor is Healy; maybe you could contact him or set something up.

At 9-12 months off sertraline, I was in hell. Total anhedonia, extreme fatigue and akathisia, horrid unbearable anxiety, extreme insomnia even with benadryl and other sleep aids, severe depression etc. It was unbearable. My intro topic began when I was 10.5 months off, and boy was I suffering. I also felt like I had gone backwards actually, and didn't feel like I had made any progress at all at that point.

Since then, I've been progressively getting better. Anhedonia comes and goes, emotions come and go, akathisia completely subsided, etc. I still have some pretty horrid symptoms at 19.5 months off, but I am significantly better than I was 9 months ago. Maybe your windows will start suddenly. Please hang in there. I feel as though my healing started at 11 or so months.

Zoloft 50 mg from April 23, 2015 to August 28th, 2016 (1 year, 4 months).

4 week taper. Last dose on August 28, 2016

Mianserin 30 mg in an attempt to reverse PSSD from September 6th, 2017–around mid November 2017 after a few week taper. Did not fix PSSD

Currently taking: Melatonin and magnesium every night.

Having suffered for several years with withdrawal I’ve found almost zero Drs or natural dr types who truly understand.  Read the Ashton Manual if you haven’t already...

The best you can do is talk to Baylissa Fredrick at Recovery Road

she is online and provides phone consulting and live webinars.

A low carb keto type diet.  No sugar, no alcohol, no caffeine , light exercise, low stress, nurturing, meditation, sleep, prayer etc.

only supplements I can take are melatonin and some magnesium.

be prepared as hardly anyone will understand - it’s shocking.

one therapist that is an ex drug counselor helps me. His name is Steve Tomutsa ‭(510) 343-7541‬

hes in Irving.

good luck

Hey Houston folks...wondering if anybody has had success finding a psychiatrist who recognizes the possibility of withdrawal syndrome when treating struggling patients?

On the list of recommended doctors and psychiatrists that recognize the possibility of withdrawal syndrome, there were no Texas doctors listed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m also going to ask in that thread as well. Thanks!
