Tgirl,

We prayed for you last night.

My sleep is fine but I am on other meds that are probably helping that right now.

I will keep you posted but I may be away from the boards for a while. I have to take breaks from this stuff. It wears on the mind too much and can trigger more anxiety for me.

Thank you JDM for the prayers.

I and my mom have been praying for all of the members here and specifically naming some in prayer. Two are having some improvements. I truly believe in the power of prayer. I believe the Lord opened the door for me to get off Remeron. Though I'm still on meds, I am stable. A lot of agonizing prayer went into it. I know He will see me through.

As for the FQ antibiotics, I believe in some ways they are worse than antidepressants because some have been damaged permanently by FQs whereas AD withdrawal eventually passes.

Okay,

I'm down to the point that I can no longer cut pills to the dose I need. I have to get the zyprexa compounded. My doc will not do it and I don't want to drive to Ashville NC just to get the other doc to do it. I found another psychiatrist that will compound but she charges $300 just for an initial visit. Any recommendations on how to get a regular MD to write a compounding script?  I really hate to have to doctor shop for this and I really don't want to make my own liquid on this particular drug.

Thanks

Hello chicken,

How are you doing?

Tgirl, I'm still doing well but keep me in your prayers.

This can be done. My pastor took paxil for over 10 years and is off, doing well, my aunt was hospitalized twice and on a cocktail of drugs for years. She is off of all of them for several years now and doing well. My coworker was on every AD you can think of and is off now and doing good. I was at a meeting last night and found out my supervisor from my last job has come off meds after taking them for years and is doing good. I find stories like that encouraging. Hope it encourages you too.

That's encouraging news about those people getting off their drugs!

Ive not been on here long, but have got the idea that most people here are either long-term users or multi-drug users so its bound to be taking time for success stories to be heard. I certainly fall into the 2nd  category and it'll be a couple of years at least before I write of success.

But ill be pleased if I can just reduce safely to a very low level, given my age and history. That'll be success for me!

Simon,

I do believe a lot of people get off of drugs sucessfully. Many of the people who get off sucessfully or have little problems never post to forums. I think when we get in a "tight spot" we post and it appears there is more negative than positives on internet forums. That doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of bad out there. Plus, I think that those of us who are prone to depression and especially anxiety tend to look for the negatives. I know I do.

Also, as Alto pointed out, a lot of people never come back and post their success stories. They just move on with life, get busy and forget about the tough times. It is easy to do. When I feel good I am really busy and don't stop for anything it seems.

I think if you take it slow with your taper, you will make it just fine. Even if you have to hold at a low level for a long time, at least it will be refreshing for your mind to know that you just have a small amount of the drug in your  body. This will give you the courage to continue on.

Dire, I will have to ask him about the length of time. I do remember him saying that he had brain zaps for a while. As far as I know, Paxil was the only drug he took so I'm sure that makes big difference in recovery.

Thanks for your reply and words of encouragement!

I can identify with that concept of wanting to just get on with your life when things improve. Its very frustrating for those around me (as well as a relief), because, when ive recovered in the past I tend to get back into life with a sort of gusto and make up for lost time. And I have great difficulty remembering how bad I was. But folks around do remember and have maybe had to pick up the pieces from time to time. Your mind plays tricks on you.

This is where personally ive found the practise of mindfulness so useful; as, instead of 'running', you constantly train your mind to come back to the present moment and experience life in the here and now and not in some auto-pilot phase where youre continually regretting the past or planning for the future. I find it very liberating (although hard work, as the mind is always daydreaming and you have to catch it up to its tricks!

Anyway that's how I plan to proceed as it s good for me and stops me barging on ahead and not considering enough the feelings of others (especially spouse) It sounds like a lame excuse but I do feel that these drugs induce a sort of selfishness. I like that idea expressed in a Breggin book of 'Spellbinding', ie you are not actually aware of altered behaviour because youre  being influenced by the effect of the drug.

I guess its only when you get to low doses, or off completely that you realise fully what you've been up to!

All the best to you

Simon

Hi Chicken, I just read what you wrote elsewhere about Remeron. I have to agree that reading of others' experiences both on and coming off make me think it is a very, very nasty drug.

A couple of things have really lit a fire under me while on this tapering journey, one was Dr. Shipko's article a little over a year ago about tapering dangers. I think he is a very good doctor and got a lot out of one of his books, but I hated that article. Since then. I have been tearing up the internet and experimenting on myself. I have gotten a lot of help from inositol--not that I found it myself, but it was suggested by my new pdoc. I just posted on it in the tapering section under inositol and sleep. I don't know if it would help you stabilize for the next phase of your journey, but wanted to point it out.

Wishing you peace and healing!

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Hello Chicken how's it going?

Had a night of insominia last night. Just had two insominia nights since I got of the hospital. Otherwise everything is okay.

In May 2014 tried quitting Remeron at its lowest dose. Had severe withdrawals.Reinstated Remeron at 30 mg by doctor. August 5 2014 entered hospital.

Meime,

Thanks for the inositol suggestion. I will look into it.

Yes, Dr. Shipko is very scary. I was reading up on Dr. Breggin and what he said about the drugs I'm currently own. They (trycyclics) can be nasty too. I've scoured the internet on Pamelor and it doesn't appear to be as bad as remeron. Akathesia still scares me but it's a chance I have to take. I plan to taper Pamelor very slowly. I have to try to get off the drugs. The tardive and protracted syndromes are very disturbing but I'm praying that I can dodge them. I guess the only alternative would be to stay on a low dose forever, but who really wants to do that?

Had some trouble going to sleep last night with some very mild anxiety. I missed one day of work but I'm back now.

I believe it could be because I'm down to a low dose of zyprexa. My currunt doc will not compound it. I found holistic psychiatrist who has agreed to meet with me. She said that she will get it compounded for me.

I told her about my cipro and remeron fiasco and she definately agreed that cipro was bad stuff and no one should take it.

I also stopped by a compounding pharmacy and got my oral syringes. The compounded pharmacist said that they have to compound micro doses of ADs for birds. I can't believe it! They are giving ADs to pet birds. Poor old parrots.

Glad you found someone to compound. We must be kinda close by, I go to Dr. Johnson in Asheville. He's not that great. His tapering methods are too fast. I have to see him tommorow. I am in a CT AD WD and he mentioned tapering me off Ativan, which is insane right now. I had to argue with him to get him to compound Ativan 4 doses a day. :-/

Hi J,

I am 3 hours away from Asheville. I see you are in TN, I am in NC near Greensboro.

I'm not seeing Dr Johnson at the moment. I did not get the impression that he would not compound when I spoke with him. The new doc I found hasn't called me back yet. I may not need her for this compound as things seem to be going well at the moment.

Started exercising today as my pdoc said along time ago that exercise was one of the best antidepressants. I know many in full blown WD can't exercise.

I didn't realize how out of shape I am. Swam half way across the pool and was completely out of breath. I remember growing up, I could swim across a lake with no problems. I guess I've let myself go to much. My co worker is exercising with me. He believes that I will be able to get off the meds better if I can get myself in shape. I made a few rounds on the elliptical machine and had to stop because my legs hurt. He kept going and couldn't believe I was so out of shape.

Since you are not too far from NC maybe we could meet sometime. PM me if you like.

Good decision not to read others threads if it makes you anxious. I'm glad to see you privileging your health

Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others. On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist.

Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014.

Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September.

Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015.

Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15).

Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past.

Ok, So the pain doctor tried to start my mom on cymbalta for pain. Thank the Lord I found out and stopped her from filling that prescription.

She already takes zoloft and trazadone. She has cut the zoloft from 100 mg down to 25mg and plans to stay there. She was thinking of coming off zoloft but has changed her mind.

Stupid pain doctor got her to cold turkey amytriptiline a few months ago, leading to severe insomnia which led to trazadone. I didn't want her to take the trazadone but at her age the insomina was really starting to affect her health. I think the trazadone pooped and isn't working anymore leading her back to taking tylenol PM to sleep. After she she's a psych doc, she may start tapering trazadone.

Went to the eye doc today. I though I had some kind of eye infection. Made sure he knew to give me NO FLOROQUNILONE antibiotic drops. He didn't prescribe anything and said that since it was so mild it would go away on its own. I just can't wear my contacts until it clears.

Good for you, Chicken, telling them no FQ eyedrops! Hope this gets better soon!

Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

Hi Meime,

I don't think this has anything to do with the taper as I've had it before. I have slacked in cleaning my contacts sometimes and I think that may be the culprit. I have no drainage and that is good. My eye was just really red on one side.

I wouldn't be surprised if folks had drainage during a taper as I've always heard that we expelled toxins through our tears.

Thanks to all who have been concerned for me. I really appreciate it.

Had a scare night before last. Thought some kind of withdrawal was happening but it turned out to be food poisioning. It was rough but at least I didn't have to go to the hospital and get fluids for dehydration like a I did with my last food poisoning.

Unfortunately the dog ate some of the poisioned pizza and got sick too.

Everything is more scary when you're tapering.

Prozac 1999-2009 quit semi cold turkey.

2012 Placed on Seroquel 25 mg, Tranxene (Clorezepate) 3.75 mg 3x a day, Remeron 30 mg for anxiety/akathesia.

Weaned off Seroquel and Tranxene .to Remeron 15 Mg.

In May 2014 tried quitting Remeron at its lowest dose. Had severe withdrawals.Reinstated Remeron at 30 mg by doctor. August 5 2014 entered hospital. Doctor pulled the Remeron and bridged it to Pamelor (Nortriptyline) 40mg and Zyprexa 2.5mg.After removing the Remeron all my bad symptoms went away and I am stable.

Oh no! That is scary! Hope you and your dog are both Ok. I have a bug right now, and it's really hard to tell what is WD and what is not.

(Retired)
