This is so great Chicken. It shows we really need to go down to the tiny doses to become med free. Congrats and continued healing.

Thank you Hopeful and Marie....

I was able to get off the zyprexa and tranxene quickly, faster than what is recommended but I kept it slow with the AD.  ADs have been the problem "child" for me. Slow is what it takes...

My advice is live your life and not concentrate on the taper too much...just DO IT and then one day it will be over and you will be off of the drug.

Hi Chicken-- congratulations on being a month drug free, way to go.  And congratulations on taking on getting another degree, best of luck with that.

Very happy to hear you're doing better. I added our cheerful "here comes the sun" symbol

Please continue to let us know how you're doing. I hope you will add your story to our Recovery Success Stories eventually!

Hi all.

Just stopping in again to say hello. I'm not on here much anymore. To Altostrata, Skyblue and brassmonkey. Thanks for replying to my thread. I see the forum was updated and I was not getting messages to my email when someone replied. Alto...I plan to add my success story after I've been off meds for a year. Just want to make sure...LOL.

I'm still off meds and doing well.

I'm starting a new intern job now.  I'm 40+ going to school, still working my other job part time and looking after my mom. Life is good even if the future seems uncertain after I get out of school. Not a lot of jobs in my area and because of my mom, I cannot relocate at this time.

I don't think about what I went through with the meds much anymore. As you move on it seems to fade. But, I do not hesitate to warn others if they are thinking about taking these meds. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I hope everyone is improving, even if it is slow.

Hi chicken,

I read your story and it gives me hope. I am just wondering, after 10 years on Prozac, how did you determine you couldn't take SSRIs anymore? I have tried to reinstate SSRIs since my Zoloft cold turkey and not sure if any are going to work. Just wondering what your experience was with SSRIs the 2nd time, and if that means I need to look at something else.

I found out when I tried to take them again that it kindles and causes insane anxiety. I cannot take them at all anymore. Tried several times. This is why I reluctantly tried a tricyclic. I was able to taper the tricyclic slowly and finally get off this stuff.

I am wondering if the SSRIs I have been taking are kindling and causing my crazy anxiety. Did you find you couldn't tolerate them at all for even a couple of days? Or that after significant periods of time on them the anxiety never subsided?

When retaking the SSRI it caused anxiety almost immediately after the drug got into my system...within hours. After that happened more than once I refused to try SSRI again.

Also, one of my biggest fears is what if something happens in life and I can't get the drug? Do any of you ever worry about a job lose or natural disaster which may prevent you from getting your drug for an extented period of time. How would anyone cope? I may be paranoid but what if something catastrophic happened to the U.S. and the vast majority of the population couldn't get their medications of any kind. I'm sure it would be chaos. I'm having to trust in the Lord Jesus to help me though all these what if's. If something happened and I couldn't get my drug I would get suicidal just like I did this time in withdrawal. The extreme anxiety never went away. I guess I worry to much, hence the anxiety.

This is one of my fears as well especially the way this world is going...

I asked this question of my psychiatrist early on. He said without the meds, most likely I would become an alcoholic or drug addict. And looking back I think he was right. I like to think though that I would have survived that rough road and found a way to recovery. And perhaps if I had never been put in the meds (psych drugs), I would have found my way to recovery sooner. AND, yes I get the fear of taking away the one thing that seemed to numb my panic attacks into submission. There really are no clear answers with this stuff, except for me to continue the healing path I find myself on now. 2 cents.

Just checking in and saw your post.

I'm now a year and a half with no meds. So far everything is still good. I hope you are doing well.

Just doing a check in.

I've been off meds for a year and a half. Everything is well and back to normal.

After the 2 year mark, I plan to write the success story.

I don't think about the meds much anymore unless I see something in the news or hear someone speak about SSRIs. Hang in there everyone, when you do recover, it will eventually become a distant memory.

I am so glad to hear from you Chicken.

It is fantastic to hear that you are doing and are feeling well .

I am doing ok. Still tappering from Mitrazapine. I am down to 0.125mg and I hope that I will come off, by the end of the year.

I can't wait to be in your shoes.

Take care,  Hopefull. :)

This is great Hopefull. Wow, you are getting to a very low dose. It's good to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there, you will arrive.

Thank you , Chicken.  It is very much appreciated.  You have certainly come along way too.

I remember the early days being extremely difficult and you also had your share of difficulty.

But now, you are back to your normal self,  and it is an aspiration to others going through the same thing.

Keep us posted.  Best wishes,  Hopefull. :)
