Thanks btdt. I am impressed that you made an income creating clothes! You must be a resourceful person. And talented. I hope the urge to create returns for you.

2009: Cancer hospital said I had adjustment disorder because I thought they were doing it wrong. Their headshrinker prescribed Effexor, and my life set on a new course. I didn't know what was ahead, like a passenger on Disneyland's Matterhorn, smiling and waving as it climbs...clink, clink, clink.

2010: Post surgical accidental Effexor discontinuation by nurses, masked by intravenous Dilaudid. (The car is balanced at the top of the track.) I get home, pop a Vicodin, and ...

Whooosh...down, down, down, down, down...goes the trajectory of my life, up goes my mood and tendency to think everything is a good idea.
2012: After the bipolar jig was up, now a walking bag of unrelated symptoms, I went crazy on Daytrana (the Ritalin skin patch by Noven), because ADHD was a perfect fit for a bag of unrelated symptoms. I was prescribed Effexor for the nervousness of it, and things got neurological. An EEG showed enough activity to warrant an epilepsy diagnosis rather than non-epileptic ("psychogenic") seizures.

:o 2013-2014: Quit everything and got worse. I probably went through DAWS: dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome. I drank to not feel, but I felt a lot: dread, fear, regret, grief: an utter sense of total loss of everything worth breathing about, for almost two years.

I was not suicidal but I wanted to be dead, at least dead to the experience of my own brain and body.

2015: I  began to recover after adding virgin coconut oil and organic grass-fed fed butter to a cup of instant coffee in the morning.

I did it hoping for mental acuity and better memory. After ten days of that, I was much better, mood-wise. Approximately neutral.

And, I experienced drowsiness. I could sleep. Not exactly happy, I did 30 days on Wellbutrin, because it had done me no harm in the past.

I don't have the DAWS mood or state of mind. It never feel like doing anything if it means standing up.

In fact, I don't especially like moving. I'm a brain with a beanbag body.

Been thinking about  summer.

You know we use to have a lot of women that had hormonal related cancers who were put on Effexor to treat the hot flashes at the effexox topics thread... too bad it is gone as some of them were on chemo.

There is something called chemo brain .. my xhusband apparently had it when he was having treatment according to his gf... I did see some odd thoughts he had and wanted to talk to him more about it when I tried she told me it was chemo brain he did not know what he was saying... she shut down the conversation... so I guess I will never know or if his ranting was something meaningful as he seemed to be done with her... hard to say now he has passed and she got all his stuff. I wish I had pursued the conversation I meant to but we were never without her .. and I never had the chance to say many other things to him I would have like to said.

It does seem odd to me that doctors do things that are seemingly against common sense.

I can give you an example a family member had a pancreas issue... I asked about all the drugs before I went to hosp did my looking like I always do online to educate myself.  I found he was on a bp drug that causes pancreatitis.. I happened to be there when the specialist came a doc I have had myself.  So I put the question to him does it not seem like a bad idea to use a drug that causes pancretitis when your patient is suffering from pancreatitis... he snapped at me.. the patient told me not to piss off his doctor.  I sat silent.

A few minutes later he decided to change that particular drug but said he was going to consult with a heart doc first... it got changed no further pancreas issue to date.

It seems odd doesn't it I don't get it...

maybe there is so much other complicated issues in their heads that they don't do the easy stuff.. I can't even guess why...

If I were you I would ask. but don't expect much in way of an answer post anything they don't like to do past if it does not relate to present I find.

It is behind you now and the reasons may never be known for today focus on what you can do to make this a good day.. is my suggestion as I have spent endless days going over the past and while maybe it has a place I can't see how it has added to my life much. For me there is more drugged past then not so there is a huge backlog I could waste the rest of my life going back I choose to limit it.

peace to you :)

Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Remember last fall we were talking about taking photos of ourselves and sending them out as Christmas cards to our shrinks?? I just thought of that the other day...it cracked me up. I remember wanting to run mine under my armpit, so they could get the full effect, since now I can't even tolerate deodorant!

Anyways, made me laugh. I need to go back and find the post!

There is just a negativity that lays on the brain for part of withdrawal when it lifts you will be so relieved... it will happen but it takes time.

I did read something more on this and the cause effect I can't recall what it is... if you search the word negativity here you may find more info on it

Oh dear...

Oh yes! Before and after, brilliant. Even better! :)

I'm just so happy you made it through everything that happened to you. I'm amazed. You are brave.

I don't know if you noticed on my thread, but I did a little stint in manic land around Christmas. It was hideous and I'm pretty sure I hover around low grade hypomania now. Awful, awful, awful. I'd rather be depressed and not be able to get out of bed and sleep 24 hours a day than be manic.

All is well.

I know opiates do react badly on some people one is my family gets a psychosis from a certain opiate .. she had it in hosp thank heavens not at home so it was noticed by the nurses right away and she never had it again. If you had a bad reaction when on a drug... (and I know the drug can mess you up so much you do not have the awareness to realize it to tell anyone ...been there done that) it even more probable stopping it cause another reaction.  I would be careful if you need an opiate again and would talk to the gp about the folks outside your room having a party ect... talk now before you need any care.. this is the time to get it sorted when things are well. peace

Ugh. School was hard.

I have never had anything like it, but I do have discomfort there. There is a hormone/chemical in the gallbladder that opposes GABA, or something like that. Dr. Shipko talks about it in the book Xanax Withdrawsl. Of corse I always imagine more serious things...our livers have been through a lot.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

I know.

I was thinking of taking a picture of myself in my stinky bathrobe, greasy hair etc.. And sending it to my ex-shrink as a Christmas card.

Just to tell her thank you for what looks to be a joyous holiday season.

I'm being negative and cynical, but it makes me laugh and that has to count for something. :)

January 2012 - Prescribed 900mg gabapentin and 30mg Norco for lower lumber spinal stenosis pain.

September 2013 - Spinal fusion surgery, 6 levels. Hospital ramped up meds 1500mg gabapentin, 100mg Norco, 80mg Oxycontin, 25mg Fentanyl patch.

January 2014 - Sever nausea daily and with back pain every 4 hours. 2 trips to ER. First endoscopy found ulcer. Treated with Sucralfate and PPI. Second endo in May found no ulcers. Doctors said it was the opiates causing the nausea. CT'd Oxycontin, Fentanyl patch.

July 2014 - Lost 48 lbs. due to not eating because of severe nausea. GP prescribed Prozac 20mg and Ativan 2mg prn. Tried for 4 days, quit. Two week followup GP said keep taking Prozac. 4 days, quit again. Ativan taken rarely prn for anxiety and appetite.

August 2014 - Went to detox. Off opiates. Still nauseous, helmet head, drugged feeling. Doctor CT'd gabapentin. Ended up in ER. Found 2 gallstones. Gabapentin reinstated at 900mg. Tried botched up and down taper to get off Gabapentin. No tapering advice from doctor. Said to just CT again.

September 2014 - Coded on table during gallbladder surgery. Developed liver biloma due to CPR by doctor. Had bile bulb inserted for 2 wks to drain.

October 2014 - Gallbladder removed. Still nauseous, 3am cortisol surging, drugged helmet head, vertigo, breathlessness, whooshing head, heart palps.

November 8th, 2014 - CT'd gabapentin suggested by family and 4 different doctors. Was told no withdrawal is associated with gabapentin. Have been in hell ever since. No windows, just one big tsunami every day with same symptoms for 4 months.

December 26, 2014 - Found SA. At least I know I'm not insane. My family thinks I'm doing this to myself. Akathesia has become unbearable.

March 10, 2015 - In absolute daily hell with no relief. Currently taking magnesium 200mg before bedtime.

Thank you WC. I'm your neighbor in Irvine. I call it Uh-vine due to the number of snots in this city. I know I don't have it nearly as bad as most of the brave warriors on this forum, which I guess makes me a whiney baby, but I couldn't bear it if it got worse! It makes me terrified to read posts of how BAM! people get REALLY hit with CT WD sxs at 6 months. I think OH LORD please no! And I pray to God I don't get even worse! I love all of you so much. I pray to God every day that He swoops down and heals all of us sufferers with one miracle. Kind of like with the locusts, but a good thing. I've never met such decent compassionate people in my 61 year old life, and in the midst of their own personal pain, reach out their hands and prayers to others. God HAS to see this. I need to believe he does and will pull us out of this hell. Crying.

Ugh.

Yes I had it on effexor I had it in ct too.. I had a gastro bleed on effexor too and pancreatitis... I have pain in the liver area all the time it is the same area where i broke a rib so now I can't say what causes it.

I have never heard of an extreme panic attach causing pain like this... I think it is withdrawal or drug related as I never had it once before I started drugs.  Not sure it that helps but I did not in your history you started effexor in 2009 same year the pain came... I would say a big old bingo...

Hope your feeling better soon..

peace

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89

I've been having excruciating gastro pain too, like a huge gas bubble, kicked-in-the-stomach pain st night. Sugar brings it on oftentimes. But I had a gastric bypass and it's called dumping. Wish I could take a huge dumping, if you get my drift.

Are you still feeling this way WC? Does it come and go? Does it happen at different times of the day? Is it related to food? O chew two tabs of Gasicon recommended by my gallbladder surgeon. He has diverticulitis. It works within 15-20 min.
