And what about folks who can't sleep who have tried every possible non med remedy for insomnia to no avail?  Please don't misunderstand me as I think these drugs should be used only in extreme situation and that everything possible is done to make sure that all other factors that may be contributing to insomnia are explored.   But to suggest banning drugs seems extreme when it is unclear what the percentage of people who are having severe adverse reactions is.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took it for a year....I totally agree with the stay in bed part....it was helping me alot but after a whilethe sedatation became so powerful that those those weird behaviours appeared witch at first were fun but after i almost did some stupid things(cause i started using it in small dose as a benzo) and read all these on things on the net I stopped it altogether

1st short round: from 2012 april ~ july

Sertraline 50mg with 1mg Larazepam fast wd few problems

2013 may - 2014 january:  75mg Effexor XR +  1mg Rivotril + 10mg Ambien(zolpidem)

2014 january ~ june :        150mg Effexor XR +  2mg Rivotril    cold turkeyed both almost at the same time (crazy wd of course)

two days after cold turkey of Effexor I started 10mg of Lexapro for around a month then did a fast taper (for some days took little Ambien to combat wd)

Reinstated to 1mg of Klonopin on 2015.04.23  took the 1mg total for 10 days.  I did in three divided doses 0.25 morning + 0.25 afternoon + 0.5 before sleep.

Now: 1 mgs total K, divided into .75 night .25 day

Started taking 3mg Lamictal on 05.07...... Slowly tiltrated up to 6mg....

I have a couple of family member taking it who act odd but have not hurt themselves or anyone else just yet.

I have talked till I am blue about the dangers and withdrawal.  I have looked up printed and mailed withdrawal techniques and cross overs... still nothing...except now none of my family will talk to me at all about any drug they are taking... as I guess I am a bit too much for them to deal with.  I wish somebody had warned me what I was in for with antidepressant... and I wonder if I would have listened.

What happens to all those addicted when they pull the drug off the market ... I guess they will all cross over then.

It is not the odd behavoir that bothers me what really bothers me is I can see the change and miss them badly.  No they do not get in bed and stay there after they take their drugs I guess that ad campaign did not get to Canada yet.  Will I send it to them nope I will not... as it is a waste of my time and to them just makes me look crazier.  I am sure some of them think I was better on drugs... I sure was more functional and looked good on paper.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.
