mmbr1216
I just signed up for this site at the recommendation of my therapist (not prescribing Dr.) I just read the rule not to stop cold turkey but unfortunately I did already almost 2 weeks ago and am suffering severe tremors, mood swings, insomnia, to non stop sleeping for 3-4 days straight. I am also on Adderal in am and Xanax 2 mg prn 4x daily which I pretty much use. I have been so mind boggled that I have forgotten those on some days making me worse. So I didn't know if this was right group for me. I am diabetic that was tired of weight gain with insulin, stomach meds, and hypertension meds as well, just thought would help to talk to get through symptoms. Link to comment
Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted September 21, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted September 21, 2014 Hi MMBR, welcome to SA. You don't say which med it is that you have stopped. The only way to stop withdrawal symptoms is to reinstate the drug that was stopped. Often just a fraction of the original dose is needed to halt withdrawal then you can start a slow taper once stabilized. Its also important to take your meds at the same times every day to avoid further destabilizing your fragile nervous system. This is the right group for you and we will help in any way we can. I'm glad your therapist referred you to us. It would help if you can put your med history in your signature, when started, stopped and dosesdoses. There is a link at the top of my signature that tells you How to do that. **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem) 1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat 2002 effexor. Tapered March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads. Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013 Restarted taper Nov 2013 OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015 Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014 Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg July 2017 30mg. May 15 2018 25mg Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure. My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33 Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible Link to comment
Administrator Altostrata Posted September 23, 2014 Administrator Share Posted September 23, 2014 Welcome, mmbr. I would immediately reinstate the drug you stopped at half-dosage. Cold turkey runs the risk of severe withdrawal symptoms for a very long time. Reinstating and tapering reduces this risk. This is not medical advice.
