BTDT IT'S A MINEFIELD YESTERDAY I HAD ONE OF MY WORST DAY IN WITH DRAWEL I WOKE AT 4 IN THE MORNING MY HEAD AND NECK WERECOMEPLETY LOCKED I COULD NOT MOVE THE PAIN WAS EXCRUCIATING I HAD TO SIT IN ACHAIR ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO LAY DOWN I COULD NOT SLEEP AT ALL JUST PAIN HOUR AFTER HOUR SOME HOW I'VE GOT THROUGH TILL NOW IT IS SLIGHTLY BETTER BUT IM NOT LOOKING FOR WARD TO THIS DAY AND NIGHT BUT SOMEHOW I HAVE TO KEEP GOING. VERY PLEASED THAT MY ANTIBIOTICS FINISH TODAY. BTDT I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR REPLY AND I HOPE YOUR HAVING A GOOD DAY YOUR SELF IT'S NOT EASY IS IT MATE BUT WHO KNOWS ONE DAY WE MAY BE COMPLETETLY FREE THANKS AGAIN MATE GOD BLESS BE WELL

I am so sorry your having body pain. :(

Pain can be a big part of this withdrawal process.  I know others have pain too and we wonder how much of it is our bodies trying to heal from medication.  Some people have been diagnosed with disorders such as fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue when in withdrawal.  One case I seen a person who was dx with fibro/chronic fatigue who actually had serotonin syndrome I copied and put the story here on SA.  The person had a dx and a physical therapist was the one who noticed her symptoms did not fit the dx a neurologist changed the dx and took her off her Ad and she recovered.

I wish the medical community would take the connection between pain and Ads seriously but they don't seem to or if they do they can't find a cure for it.

In wd for me pain has a been a paramount focus neck and other nerve pain have been on a lot of peoples lists feeling like you can't move a part because of pain I would list as common I have seen it a lot.

For some I think magnesium has help them with this there is a thread about magnesium.  I thought I had found an answer when I first tried magnesium too but after a couple of days or maybe one day I can't recall now it cause anxiety and no longer worked.  I have tried it since as I have seen others who could not take a supplement have their systems change as the wd process go on and they were able to take a supplement later in wd that they could not tolerate in early wd.  So I tried a again last year I can't say it helped with pain all I can say it did was cause me to lay down for a few days with noodle limbs I just could not get up for a wkend... and felt very heavy.  To me this was not an improvement it wore off but took a few days.

Some people swear by it.  I swear by heat on my spine for neck I use cold... I actually do this.

I put the heating pad or other hot device on my spine and a cold pack on the upper back neck head area... I do both at the same time.  It has helped me a long time... especially with head aches and neck shoulder back pain.

I don't know why this would help I came to it by accident when I had back pain that responds to heat and neck/head pain that responds to cold. Together this seems to confuse the nervous system and sometimes seems to reboot the system. Heat on my neck will often cause a head ache as well as heat on my back can sometimes cause a headache... i don't know if you can tolerate coffee at this point but coffee is one thing I use to treat headaches.

I have also created all sorts of supports for sleeping... or resting PILLOWS my bed if full of them.. and I pile and stack and contort them and myself to get to the least painful position to sleep in .  Neck pillows are part of this arsenal and there are so many different types I have a collection each useful for different sorts of pain.

I know this sounds complicated and really it is... it is a life unto itself to keep pain at bay.

Magnesium is in epson salts and that was the first thing outside of heat and cold coffee and tylenol that helped me... I actually felt contorted like my spine was twisted and a warm bath with epson salt would help ease the tension on my spine.  After heat on the spine ( which I read increases norepinephrine in your CNS epson salt bath would be my next suggestion.  For people who can't tolerate magnesium supplements this allows smaller amounts of magnesium to get into your system through the skin.

I hope this calms down and is not  a major problem for you as it is for me. I hope some of the things I have mentioned helps .. one more thing muscle rubs for pain ... I don't know what types they would have in your country but I am sure they have some take a look in the drug store in the old days they called them linaments.

I wish you peace

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

hell helmet is that icy hot grip on the scalp

not the same thing I don't think.

I had severe brain fog and something like a weight in my head for a time I can't recall just what time span in withdrawal I used advil every morning as it was worse when I woke up... I am not saying it is a good for everyone but it helped me with the brain fog it was the lowest coated dose of brand name advil they sell... one was all I ever took

I don't know if it would be a good idea for you or not... as I don't know what other health concerns you may have.  I had a gastro bleed in the past so I was not suppose to be taking it but I did... I don't take it anymore now I stay far from it... but I had some very desperate times in wd for a time it helped. Just an idea to think about.. again I can't say I fully recommend it as there are some health issues that do not mix well with advil.

peace

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

Thanks Btdt I think I'm going to stick with abstenance.I have had a bad experience in the past trying to use other drugs to help my recovery I'm going to sink or swim as I am .but please feel free to suggest any thing that you feel may help I think an open mind is an important tool in recovery and I so hope you are doing okay I am always grateful for your support in my recovery please be well x

Yes I was just reading about advil causing problems for people who are still on drugs likely the best idea.

I am not well but getting better reacting to a steroid and not sure why I am even here other than this is what got me thru many of my bad times talking online.. to others who get it.  I can do this when I can't do much else how crazy is that... well not really yesterday I could not do this... this morning I could not do it as the day goes on the drug wears off... I am thinking of not taking it tomorrow.

Hope things are ok for you peace and God Bless B

Patoski, how are you feeling now?

I would say I am slightly better the intensity of the pain in my head has gone down a bit but it is still quite bad it is also in my shoulders and arms.this has only come about since the anaesthetic I am quite rough at this moment. I know there is no other option for me but to keep going .I'm grateful for your reply it's reassuring that you know that it takes time to recover from annasetics I've been through this whole saga without taking one pain killer I'm quite pleased about that.thankyou again

It could be you were in a crampled position while they did the surgery. You might want to try acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, or osteopathic manual therapy.

I hope you are all doing alright I'm grateful to be able to post on this site it keeps me in touch with people that under stand where I'm coming from.thank you all so much

Hi guys I'm 16 months off today.but I am in a very bad way I'm experienceing a seething burning cutting pain in my head which goes to a terrible extreme it is by far the worst symptom I have ever encountered it also radiates to my shoulders wrist and ankles I have an harley steel doctor coming to see me at home next Friday to make sure I'm safe he apparently knows about withdrawel I want to keep going but I am frightened and I can't stay on my home or go far from my house.I think by now I must be some where at the bottom of this withdrawel I'm in server pain every day.I have my wife and I am trying to get a support team around me but I know only I can go through this pain have helped many people in my 40 years of sobriety and now some of them are helping me I don't want this post to frighten anybody you probably will not expierance these symptoms but if there is anyone out there that has suffered like this or is suffering like this please share with me where ever this takes me I have to go

Hi Patoski,

I'm sorry you're in a bad way at the moment. You asked for someone who has been through a bad withdrawal to share. I've had some pretty extreme symptoms, from physical to emotional, going on for a while, but have started to feel significantly better lately. It can take some time to recover from the damage done by these drugs and there's not a great deal to be done but take care of yourself the best you can and wait it out.

Read my intro topic if you want the details of what I've gone through.

What is a 'harley steel doctor'?

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Hi I saw the doctor yesterday he completely understood withdrawel and symptoms he said it was certainly the made much worse by general anaesthetic he had come across this before he said it will take time to get over the anaesthetic let alone the withdrawel. I told him I'm very frightened of the condition I'm in and I have no planB he told me not to worry he had several plan Bs.he told me not to get trapped in doors and even in pain go for a walk that way my anxiety would slowly decrease he said try to go one street further each time but not to over do it he is an Harley street psychiatrist and quite expensive but money is not an issue for me but he never made another appointment with me he simply said I should phone his secretary every 2 weeks and let her know how I'm doing. And he would keep his eye on me.he sais he fully supports what I'm trying to achieve and will support this endeavour he said it will take time and at times will be difficult. This is just an up date I hope it may help others who are in trouble. I think this doctor is a ma n that cares has great knowledge and I'm glad to have him helping me .the best money I ever spent .I wish you all well
