Thanks, Frustrated. Been stressing about it. I plan to tell the doctor, but want to be better before I do. Don't want her telling me I need to go back on, doubting my withdrawal symptoms, or trying to get me to take something to help (that will not help), when I have a paradoxical reaction to everything.

Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

Now that the dreaded doctor's appointment is done with, you would think I would have a decent day. No such luck, though. My lack of sleep last night is catching up with me, and the akathisia is ramping up. Looks like I just can't buy a break!

I tried to tell my doctor and he laughed and shook his head at me. Then he said there was no withdrawls and what made me think my symptoms were Paxil related. He treated me like I was an idiot. I never brought it up again. I understand your reluctance. I am also sorry your symptoms are amping up again. So frustrating.

Thank you, Frustrated. My doctor tries to be compassionate, but I have witnessed her reaction when faced with something "out of the ordinary", so I have a pretty good idea what she will say. She can't possibly tell me my symptoms are because I need the Zoloft, because I didn't "need" it to begin with. Another doctor, whose place she took in the clinic, prescribed it for Chronic Fatigue many years ago. She could, however, try to get me to go back on, or prescribe something that would cause more harm than good. Right now, I react to everything--even chamomile tea!!

Trying to be optimistic, but don't know how long I can keep doing this. I am old and tired, and am going backwards. I've been off the Zoloft for almost 5 months, and my withdrawal symptoms began almost 4 months ago. A month ago, I at least had a couple of days a week that I could call tolerable--not good, but not bad all day. This is seldom happening now. The only positive I can see is that the really bad days don't seem to be increasing (yet).

I badly need assurance at this point that this is a typical pattern, and I am not really just getting worse. I do not want to spend the rest of my life like this. I'm 60 years old now.

As a person with Chronic Fatigue, I have always (for the last 35 years) needed at least 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Now, I get an hour here and there, and, on the average no more than 2-4 hours a night. Maybe once a week, I am able to string together 4-6 hours. I feel if I could sleep, maybe I could heal, but it's not happening. I know you can all relate.

You know, the only thing I want to do is to curl up with my mom and go to sleep, like when I was a kid. She is 69 in Feb and I'm losing time with her, and I just want to enjoy her and love her, and I'm crying while writing this. I just want to be able to love my parents, and my friends. This has stolen everything from me. I've lost my job, a relationship, my home, friends, I don't look anything like I used to, but I would give all those things up to be healthy and able to love my parents. I now know why people say that people die of broken hearts. I feel like it is slowly happening to me.

I'm sorry, rambling on your thread. I just want so much for this to end.

I know, JDM! Me too. When I realized I was in for withdrawal, it was too late to do anything about it. Reinstating, while a remote possibility, seemed like just prolonging the agony. At about a month out, I was told by an on-line "recovery program" that reinstatement was not likely successful after about a WEEK. Fast forward two months later, upon finding this site, and learn it might still be possible, but trying to read between the lines, did not sound like a very good idea. I spent a day or two thinking it over and praying, and decided against it.

Yes, I am losing time with my daughter as well. I have never really been able to do things with her, because of my CFS. I was so hoping to change that... And yes--I am crying too.

I don't know how long this is going to last. With only one drug in my history, and comparing notes with someone in a similar circumstance, I thought I was prepared for the very worst to last six months to a year, with probably an additional year for all symptoms to subside. I am a third through that year, though, and getting worse. I thought there would be some back and forth, but a general trend towards improvement by now. Right now, it doesn't feel that way. I am rambling too. Just having a really hard time right now :(

I went in my moms room the other day and smelled her clothes, and I hug her all the time so I can make memories. She has always smelled so good. I'm so afraid to lose her. I miss her even when I'm with her because I'm not fully there.

(Retired)

I hope you both feel better really soon.  It makes me so sad that we are all suffering and it really could have been avoided.  I hate these meds.  I understand the feeling of losing time with loved ones.  I have three kids at home and I don't feel present in their lives either.  I do the motions daily of taking care of them but I am not truly there.  I pray for better days ahead for all of us.

Have had a couple of nights of "decent" sleep. Not good, but definitely better than sitting up rocking in the chair all night. Yesterday was the best day I have had since the day after Thanksgiving. Hoping today might be better as well(?)

Even on my good days, I still have akathisia--just to a lesser degree. I'm hoping that someday (soon?) this may get to the point where it is not constant. Not sure if there is a pattern to this or not. Wondering if the severity just gradually lessens, or the frequency, or both. In any case, it is a lot easier to deal with when the severity is relatively low.

Still having a lot of the burning/tingling in extremities. Can someone tell me if this is common in withdrawal in general, or if it is unique to the akathisia? Still have so many questions about all this, and no answers in sight. Guess we are all in the same boat there :(

Wishing everyone a good day:)

Have you read the waves and windows section in symptoms? It helped me. I think from what I've seen what is happening is very normal. You are having a window right now. Eventually they will last longer.

Very normal.

Yes, I tried to read the windows and waves section, but really couldn't make heads or tails out of it. May go back and try again. I understand the theory, but I don't think I have had anything that constitutes a clear window. I am assuming, though the "better" days are still windows, and the bad days waves. Thanks, JDM.

Yes, Frustrated, I do have the burning. Sometimes it is more severe than other times. I was paralyzed in all four limbs 15 years ago due to Transverse Myelitis, and I can tell you from that that this is nerve pain. It does get better. It was almost gone after my TM before this happened. I mainly just had residual numbness--but then again, I had severe damage. I was lucky to be able to walk again. Most people don't regain that ability with the severity of damage I had. It's unreal to me that I survived that, and now this! This too shall pass! Thanks y'all!!

I get the burning and tingling with akathisia...it's not nice.

Windows tend to be when you are feeling a bit better, more functional. I always thought they meant you would feel normal but it's not quite the case (I wish it was). I have times when I can do more, feel more positive - these are what I call windows. Hope you get more of those better days. We all need them!

2008 - Doctors appointment with stress induced anxiety led to Citalopram prescription.

Severe adverse reaction

Mirtazapine prescribed - adverse reaction but told to stay on.

Poop out - December 2013

15mg

Currently on 13.5mg,

April 12mg

May 10th - 11mg

June 10th - 10mg

July 8th - 9mg

September - 0mg

Thanks, Muddles. Yes, I have come to look at the better times as windows, but didn't know if this was really the case.

So far, I can't say it's been a particularly good day, but could be worse. Numbness and tingling in hands and feet, and moderate akathisia. At least my back, knees, and arm are not in pain so far, as they often are, so that is good. Perhaps the akathisia will ease off a bit later in the day as it sometimes does. Haven't really picked up on any pattern there.
