I am officially down to 10.0 mg, which is supposed to be equal to 2 mg of paxil, according to to crazymeds.com. I've never been this low and I'm being cautious. Because luvox is metabolized by cyp1a2 there are various things that can effect the amount in your system at one time, cigarettes (which I don't smoke), brocolli and other veggies in that family, smoked meats, various other vegetables and fruits, and many supplements. The veggies are hard to watch because I love brocolli and cooked cabbage. Caffeine also is metabolized much slower on luvox, so I've completely stopped caffeine (after a visit to the ER several years ago due to drinking 2 mountain dews at a cook out, thought I was going to die, but it was caffeine intoxication due to the luvox). It would be very nice to just eat the foods I like, especially fruits and vegetables. I'm getting there slowly but surely. Don't plan on dropping off completely until I'm down to as low as I can possibly get. I have to go slow because work has been extremely stressful, it's not the patients, I love my patients, it's the added patients as some of our doctors have retired and some of the co-workers. I've been in a bullied situation at work and I try to resolve conflict in a non-confrontation way. I can be mean if I have to, but I really don't like to be that way. It's exhausting to be a jerk everyday just to deal with a bully. I'm moving to another group within my hospital soon, so I'm looking forward to a new experience where hopefully we can work together to take care of our patients without being bullied. I'm also getting ready to turn 40 and that doesn't really bother me, sometimes I'm just a little sad that I've wasted a total of 11 years on ssris combined, but so glad of communities such as this that have so much information. I've been beginning to feel more natural feelings, and my libido is back (sorry if that is too much information, but it's something that I'm very thankful for, especially since I'm married to a saint who has been so great through this all). So basically I want to tell you all thank you for being here on this journey with me, you are all very special to me and I consider you friends. mustangwoman Posted January 25, 2015 Author Share Posted January 25, 2015 From what I've read most ssris aren't like that. Luvox is unique in having many drug/food interactions. There are some with all meds, but Luvox is especially more so. When I was on zoloft I could eat or drink whatever I wanted and it didn't effect my medication. I have read the paxil is much the same. Luvox is metabolized by the cyp1a2 pathway in the liver which is different than most ssris so that's why it affecst food and drink more. I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you worry. You should be fine in that regard with paxil. I plan on going slow when I tapered zoloft in one week's time 10 years ago I ended up spending two weeks in a mental hospital, bad suicidial ideation, severe anxiety and depression, and obsessive thinking. I wish I had known then what I know now that it was because I quit the drug so fast. I was diagnosed with bipolar and placed on more drugs. Knowledge is power. It frustrates me the lack of knowledge these docs have, I feel they should go through wd before being able to even comment on it! I have a friend who's sectioned at the mo. She came off SSRIs within 2 weeks when she fell pregnant (on docs advice). I'm feel certain what she's suffering now in Wd symptoms but the staff there havnt even mentioned it. I told them I was 100 times worse than I had ever been before starting any medication. (((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. I hope your taper is continuing to go well. 1983-1995: On and off several tricyclic ADs1995: Quit alcohol, started Prozac2003: Stopped Prozac; 2004: Started Effexor XR 2252014: Tried and failed three rapid tapers; stopped cold turkey March 11, 2014, eight days of Prozac as a bridge.March 19, 2014: SSRI/SSNI free; four weeks acute withdrawal, then five month window of minimal symptoms.Sept 2014-June 2015: Delayed, prolonged severe withdrawal from Effexor. Roller coaster, way up and way down. Symptoms swing widely. Clear improvement in Mar-Apr, but still much hell. In May symptoms shifted to insomnia and depression, less HA, tinnitus and brain fog. July-Sept 2015: After two weeks of using CES device, tremendous relief of insomnia, depression and other symptoms. Feeling much better, finally! Symptoms still come and go, good and bad days.Sneaking up on return to good health. Alto gave me a 'Here Comes the Sun'!!! ☼ Oct 2015-Feb 2016: Difficult several months, some good days but the bad days felt like I'm moving backwards. Struggling after steady improvement, but hanging tough. I had a setback after having to take a round of antibiotics recently, never had that kind of problems with them before, so it must have something to do with withdrawal. Trying to get better. Also experiencing heart breaking pain concerning a friend who accidently hit a child with their car and killed them. This is one of the kindest, caring people I've ever known and I'm afraid he will kill himself as a result. He is in a psychiatric hospital in horrible shape. Also devastated for the family, so very tragic for all involved. This would break my heart with or without withdrawal though. I am in a state of in between as far as my withdrawal. I will sit on this dose a while. I am having a lot of dissatisfaction with my job, but I guess that is usual sometimes. Just being demeaned and belittled by the doc I am currently working with. In the organization I work in you can apply to new jobs within the organization, but once you quit you can no longer apply. So, I'm trying to bide my time until something more acceptable opens. I am in the same place at work with great dissatisfaction and bidding my time to hopefully move into another slot. I have had some health anxiety issues since then, which seem to be better at the moment. It actually got quite bad at times, and went to the ED, but everything was okay, it was anxiety. Holding down a job can be both a curse and blessing. I usually find the distraction a great thing, but once in a while I get soooo fed up. I had the "short fuse" thing for a while too, still get it sometimes. My original problem, reason for starting paxil, was outbursts of irrational violent anger, which I have learned a lot about controlling. The main key, for me, was watching for triggers, situations or words that would set off an "anger spiral". The perceived negative comment or situation would trigger thoughts about it and the injustice etc. which would cause more thoughts about similar things which would feed the anger and spiral on and on until I would explode. By catching the triggers when they happen and spotting the spiral before it got momentum I have been able to "defuse" the situation by changing channels and positive self talk. With practice it really works very well. And when all else fails, just walk away, even if is seems rude to do so. Better rude than angry, easier damage control afterwards. ((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Wow! too long. My children 12,14,and 16 keep me busy along with a full time job. I see that my dose has almost halved in 10 months time, but the dose of luvox is so low now. I can still feel the effects even at this low dose of a drop. Sometimes I think changes are more profound at these teeny tiny doses. WOW look at you, down to 4.2mg from 100mg. That's impressive. As CC pointed out the lower doses are a lot touchier, so it's best to go slow and careful. I have also noticed for a lot of people, me included, the range from around 3.5 to 2mg can be more sensitive then other ranges with the symptoms being more pronounced. For the most part things are well. Have had issues with anger at times in the past with the withdrawal, but seems to be an even keel now. How have you stayed calm and centered ? Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014 Psych Drug - free since May 2014 . Link to comment

I wish I could get as low as Brassmonkey for my last dose, but the smallest I can go with weights and the scale would be 0.158 mg of luvox, equivalent to 0.03 mg of paxil. I plan on going very, very slowly here on out. I started ssris for postpartum anxiety after my youngest was born, would love to get off before she's completely grown. She's 13 now. Sometimes it gets me down when I think about that, but then I look at how far I've come, and all of my great friends here. I have recently had a bout of recurrent urinary tract infection since the end of July. I just started Macrobid. The one I am taking is yellow on one half and black on the other. 18 hours ago I accidently took minocycline instead of Macrobid, which was a script my teenage daughter got filled for acne, but never used. They looked extremely similar through the semi transparent brown bottle. I didn't realize I had made the mistake until 12 hours after I had when it was time to take that next dose. I felt so stupid, I'm a nurse for pete's sake. They were right there side by side though, and an easy mistake to make. My husband moved the minocycline to a very high place so it wouldn't be easy to see. I started having some anxiety before I realized the mistake, and much more now. I know anxiety can be a side effect for some with this med, and it has a very long half-life, between 11 and 22 hours. With the macrobid, and the keflex I took earlier, it was a very short half life of around 1 hour, so I didn't worry as much because I knew if I didn't do well it would be out of my system rather quickly. Now I'm worried about how long it will take to get this minocycline out with such a long half life. I'm sensitive to meds anyway, especially since withdrawal. I've been very frustrated to as I can't seem to lick these urinary tract infections. I feel like this all would have been difficult without withdrawal as well, but is now seemed even more difficult. Not that it will actually help, but several other members have reported UTIs that just keep on giving and giving. They do finally shake them but it ends up being a battle. Hang in there and things will get better. The one time blip with the wrong medication shouldn't cause any damage. Even with the longer half life it will clear from your system pretty quickly. It sounds like you're adding a good bit of secondary anxiety to the situation. Trust your body and let the rest drop away, it will all sort itself out. Or cranberry tablets? I have been trying to include alkalizing foods to my diet. I am a bit afraid of a supplement because I respond negatively to most of them.
