Horns85: Lexapro withdrawal

I know how you are feeling in all different areas! I always feel guilty about my son even he is grown up.

This whole thing is simply so heart broken. I believe you will make the best decision to be eventually well enough to provide the best support to your family and kid.

Sending prayer to you,

Thanks Lex,

As I am somewhat functional, if the reinstatement didn't work, o boy. Prob better to just ride it all out. Thanks for your support!

You know the best.

My principle is to endure as long as I can possibly endure whatsoever without introduce another change which can lead to a complete unknown.

The past few weeks have been tough! I had a new baby girl and during those 3 or 4 days in the hospital, things were very good. Now that we are back home,  my sleep is so broken and only amounting to maybe 4-5 hours a night, I am severely depressed an anxious. It's amazing how sensitive we are to stress, lack of sleep, food while in WD. Stress and lack of sleep just make the symptoms 10x worse!

Here's to hoping it will improve soon!

I question everyday if this WD or relapse, since the real difficult symptoms didn't start till almost month 9! So many symptoms are the same but certainly amplified. What a mess!

Congratulations on the new baby Horns.  Hang on tight, this is an awful wave that will pass. We don't recommend reinstating after a year off as it can make things worse and rarely helps so far out.  Do you take any supplements? I swear by fish oil and magnesium, if I don't take them I soon start to feel off again.

I'm sure you've read the windows and waves topic but here it is if you want to read it again...

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

My case is a solid proof it's WD. I never had before AD any of the wide range of symptoms that I'm having during the entire taper. I started it for headache and slight anxious feeling. This is also the case for many of us here.

I believe you had many more/different symptoms since AD than what you had before AD.

For the first time ever in my lifetime, I experienced the special anxiety yesterday. It is completely different from the anxious feeling you would have without meds. My mind was completely calm, it was my body feeling so anxious, very disabling, uncontrolable and uncomfort.

I hope the distraction from the newborn helps.

Thanks, MammaP!

I have started magnesium as I couldn't really tolerate it until recently. I have been on it steadily for about 2 weeks and have certainly noticed a difference. I am going to try fish oil next. Is fish oil good for mood/depression?

That seems to be more prevalent now that my anxiety is lowered a bit! I've never really been depressed before, always been anxiety and this is awful. Thanks for the tips!!

Going to try and get some sleep tonight!

Thanks, Lex. Yours is for sure WD. I experience that awful anxiety too. It's so different than normal anxiety. Mind is calm, but feels like you want to crawl out of your skin? So uncomfortable. I think it's partially akathisia but it's awful and I feel for you!

Guys, I may have to give reinstatement a shot. I can't live my life like this while trying to raise a family and keep a career. I have spoken to my doc and he is open to giving me liquid lex. If i was going to do this, what would you recommend starting at? 1mg or 2mg? If so, would you reinstate with the same drug or a new SSRI?

I am very sorry you have to consider this, butI understand why you think this way. My goal is to maintan the minimal functionality for very simple life and the least requirement to keep the job.

a few things I would consider:

1. the efficacy of various ssirs http://www.mediafire.com/view/0yp2c8pbjrziaab/04_meryer_occupancy_fig1.png# (Lex is not there, but citalopram is, which is 1/2 of the potency of lex)

2. differences of ssirs http://fettermaneven...files/Ssris.ppt

3. potential reaction to reinstate (drug and/or/dose change)

4. post-reinstate goal/plan (half life for future taper)

I truly wish you good luck.

For me, after my system is super sensitized by dose increase, both direction changes in dosage triggers same amount of problems although different. So I have to make only tiny changes either direction. It makes sense to me the brain would be able to handle smaller changes in general.

If you narrowed down to lex, and 1 or 2 mg in terms of dose, I would guess starting with lower one will prevent bad reaction to reinstate, also faster taper in future if it works. If it's not enough, you can increase further.

1 mg can be huge, it took me more than 1 yr coming down 1mg since the increase and it has been toughest time so far in my taper.

Again, it's a pure try and error, no one can really be sure for individual case. Some ppl have no problem reinstate at all and felt quick relieve. I could be one of those very unlucky.

Did some soul searching tonight, had a long conversation with my loving wife and decided to not reinstate. So much of my desire to reinstate was to hopefully feel better for

My family. With my wife's support and her voice of reason(that reinstating this far out) would most likely cause more trouble, I opted against going back on Lexapro. She has no idea about AD's but is smart enough to know that it most likely wouldn't have worked.

It may have, but what if it made me worse? I at least can function right now, albeit not very well.

Feel good about the decision. I will be 1 year off on the 1st of October. Here's to year 2 and hopefully so much needed improvement.

Thanks, LexAnger for the support!

Waking up everyday and the inability to have inner peace and relax really starts to weigh on you. I'm not sure if it's akathisia or just anxiety/agitation but it's debilitating most of the time.

I just want to be able to sit in bed with my family on Saturday morning and feel relaxed.

Hopefully year 2 will lead to this!

I have the same - for me, it is certainly part of withdrawal.

During my best windows, when my brain settles down, that inner restlessness goes away. So I know it is part of the withdrawal.

It certainly weighs on me too. It takes its toll over time.

But those who have healed from exactly this same thing, tell us we need to just hang on. And that it usually takes a long time.

It seems impossible to hang on sometimes, and the journey often seems too long.

But I am very interested in seeing what progress I will make over the next year; I have made much progress over this past year.

I laid down for bed last week, and for the first time in ten months, my brain was silent upon laying down. It was pure heaven. The restlessness disappeared.

The silence lasted for a few days. It shows that when the inner fires of Lexapro withdrawal die down, we are there, intact, under the symptoms.

But now, back in a weeklong wave, very challenging.

We just need to wait it out until those fires die down for good. I've got both fingers crossed, and real reason to hope.

Hope your next window comes soon -

I have taken them, and they have never helped reduce withdrawal symptoms for me.

But the fish oil seems good for my GI tract. And the fatty acids in the fish oil are good for brain health, so I figure it is good to take it.

Congratulations on your upcoming one year off.  Many on here wish they could say that.

Hi you guys- are feelings of regret during withdrawal normal?

Started Prozac 20 MG March 2014-Sept 2014

New doctor switched me to Lexapro 10 MG and it helped from Sept 2014-Feb 2015 and then I felt the Lexapro wasn't helping as much so he changed the dose to 20 MG and I took that from Feb 2015-July 2015 when I decided to get off pills completely.I had to reinstate as I was feeling so bad and very pressured to go back on pills. My Dr put me on 50 MG zoloft and I took it for about a week..made me feel brain dead. Went down to 25 before I really learned the trouble of fast tapering..finally got a jewelry scale to properly weigh out my pills. Looking to just feel OK. Unsure where to go next.

I have completely gone through your story Horns85, I am 5 months beyond lexapro and since July I am continuously having head symptoms which haven't got better everyday after waking up, I have these buzzing sounds in my head, my left eye vision is also distorted. On Thursday last week i became completely exhausted and called my doctor, who straight away gave a prescription for .25 ALP and 5mg lexapro. I took 2 doses of lexapro then last night i did not take that.since i was reading your story. I hope things get better for all of us.

Hi Tgirl,

The lack of sleep has really put me in a bad wave. That combined with the stress has been difficult!

Tgirl

Well sleep was 'OK' prior to the new baby. I at least got 5-6 hours of solid sleep.

As anyone who has had a newborn knows, I'm lucky if I get 2 hours of straight sleep and 4 hours total.

Anyway, it's not a coincidence that my WD has escalated in the last month since my baby was born.

Thanks for caring TGirl, it means a lot. As much as I try to be in the moment in this special time, WD makes it very hard.

I'm back experiencing this weird dizzy/spacey feeling after eating. Makes my derealization worse too. It happens with all different foods and doesn't feel like an allergy. Very strange. It comes and goes but is debilitating when it happens.

I just want and had full bloodwork done and tested for h pylori. Just waiting on the results.

Anyone else experience this?

You might want to go on an exclusion diet for a bit -- basically, chicken, rice, and some bland cooked vegetables. See if that helps.

It could be your blood sugar has gotten dysregulated, can you talk to your ob-gyn about this?

Probably not a bad idea on the diet. It almost feels the same as it does after I workout to hard.

Alto, I'm male some don't have a ob-gyn. :-)

I've had this off and on since I got slammed in 2013.   I find that when my system is very revved up, I can't put much of anything in my stomach w/o my symptoms getting worse.  When I am like that, I eat just very small amounts of chicken and rice and maybe some applesauce and soft veggie like peas.  And I can't have anything too hot or too cold.

I know that there are theories on why this happens to some of us:  Vagus nerve stimulation, serotonin receptors in gut, etc.  I just try to let it be and gradually add foods back in to see if I can stay stable after eating.

So sorry this is happening.  So many strange things happen when our brain chemistry is turned upside down...

Makes sense! I get heart palps too and now acid reflux, even when I'm not eating. Never really had reflux before meds.

Congratulations on your one-year off Lexapro anniversary today!

Perhaps wait until your next window and decide then if you want to reinstate.

Reinstating during a difficult wave is usually done out of desperation, and not thinking clearly.

Think it through, and decide if you want to spend the next couple years tapering, and wondering what might have been if you didn't reinstate.

Yes, it might help your symptoms to reinstate, or it might not. The last three late reinstatements I have read on here ended in suffering, confusion, and regret.

It is impossible to say whether reinstating would be a good move for the long-term or not. It could be, or not. But at least think it through first.

Reinstating may help for a couple weeks, then might get worse; then what?

IF your goal is to be off these meds for life, then how does reinstating fit into that goal?

As you said, it is a very difficult decision. Either way, do what you feel you must, in order to survive. I hope things get better for you soon -
