AmyK: Intro about myself

Recommended Posts

Amy, I'm so sorry to hear about the recent difficulties with the drop. It boggles my mind that so many are having such difficulty under 1mg. When I started this taper many years ago I always figured I would ditch at 1mg but I guess I can't now so might as well add an additional 5 years to my taper lol. I can laugh about it at this moment but it really is so frustrating. And I feel you are like me where you still have side effects from even being on the drug so you are forever in this limbo of feeling bad from the drug but also feeling bad if you taper too much.

Please be encouraged by the fact that even though you are having to go so slow you are also sooo close to the finish line! You also haven't been on the drug that long so I think that bodes very well for you too. My biggest worry is that I have been on this drug too long to ever get off, but the sad thing is I have been trying to get off almost the entire time! These drugs really are horrible.

I have so much faith in you, Amy, I know you can do this. Something that helps me when I think about how long it is taking is that you never know when the drops will suddenly get easier or you stop feeling them altogether. I've seen it happen for other people so I know it's possible. So while the drops may seem like they are getting harder they could also be the last hard drops of your taper. You just never know with these drugs. So keep holding on to that hope, knowing you are doing everything right and you WILL get your life back and it could happen much sooner than you think! ((HUGS))

Ladybug, thankyou for those kind words of encouragement. I had tears in my eyes reading your note.

I am quite nauseated today and cant find the proper English words. But I want to say that I have faith in you too! It wont take forever!

I will really hang on to the thought that it might be easier to drop some day the lower I go.

Maybe that's the case for you too. You might be able to handle the smaller doses easier than me, you know. I hope so.

Every wave we have to endure, it is so exhausting. I wonder what they do to our psyches in the long run. I can really feel I am loosing all my confidence. But I hope this whole experience make us stronger. What can beat us after this?

I have thought of you and read about your current issue with a yeast infection. Can ssri have an impact? I dont know. I hope you feel better soon.

Take care. Hugs!

Hi amy

How are you? Long time no speak! Am sorry to hear you are still struggling. It wont be long till you are off will it? Regarding the awful anxiety you feel when you drop. It might not be any worse if you drop more quickly. Yes i have had anxiety since i CT.'d 2.8mg 19 months ago but it has been manageable for the most part. Well sometimes i havent slept much but have always managed to work. I know you are probably scared to go more quickly though and you dont have to.

Also just one thing to say. The anxiety tricks us that we wont be able to work, that things will get worse etc. one thing i have learned is not to listen to the anxiety. It is not true! So many times anxiety tells me i wont be able to cope at work etc and i always do!

Anyway am not sure if i help or not but am here and feel free to speak on fb anytime. Am sorry i have not been in much contact xx

Was on Paxil from about 2001 to 2011. Then started a three year taper of 10% every 4 weeks. Went down to 5% drops between 7mg and 5mg as it got tough. Then back to 10% drops and few withdrawal effects below 5mg. At 2.8mg went to 2mg for 2 weeks with no side effects, then 1mg for 2 weeks with no side effects and then off. Last date was 29 December 2014. Reinstated 1mg on 13th march

  • 3 weeks later...

This morning I got up, took a shower and took the underground to a 2 day course that I wanted to go. I knew they had one place left. I stood outside the building but couldnt go in. Felt so dizzy and brain foggy. My mind argued back and forth about going in or not. The CBT me thought "just do it", but then wd won and I went home.

At first I felt such a defeat. Then I realized that I cant push this wd in a mental way, as I would like to. This just wasnt the day.

There are so many times in my life that CBT strategy has worked...but this is just something different. I actually felt quite relieved afterwards. I felt acceptance about what my life is right now and that I have to be kind to my self and dont care about what others might think.

I have so many people around me asking how I am doing and how work is going and it has stressed me to death. I am telling white lies and tell almost nobody about wd. Today I just felt "I have to live for ME, and not for everybody else"...

In a way I felt happy.

This is a confused post...it doesnt help that I cant express myself in English in the way I want :)

(And Jo, thanks for stopping by! I have missed you!)

I'm sorry the day didn't work out as you planned. I'm glad you didn't fight against it and it's ok. those days probably will hang around here and there for a little while while the brain does the final fine tune and you know they will be gone very soon once and forever.

Pressure from ppl who cares/ curious is a tough one, especially those with strong minds. You know they meant well and also know they won't understand, often times I had to cut off quite harsh without trying to explain. You did great being able to keep the 'lie' for these years :).

It will all pass soon for you Amy, just a bit more time and patience, and no more 'lies' by then and forever!

Hugs,

Lex

You went out and started going about your day and then you CHOSE to change your plans. If w/d would have prevented you from getting what you wanted from that course, you made a great choice. Sitting in a classroom for 2 days is challenging for most adults at the best of times because we're used to more autonomy in our focus and activity.

Today I just felt "I have to live for ME, and not for everybody else"...

Ha! I think you may have given me a new mantra. :D

" I felt acceptance about what my life is right now and that I have to be kind to my self and dont care about what others might think. "

One of lifes biggest lessons that can't be taught, only learned. I don't think it was the WD winning.  It was more like your rational mind making the decision that you weren't ready for it yet and walking away. In life and WD things happen when they are meant to, at the proper time.  The lessons you learned today are probably more important that anything you would have gotten from the actual classes.

BTW your post was quite clear and better written than many native english speakers that I know.

((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Amy,

Yes, I decided to tell after I was hit by the dose increase 2 years ago. Before that, I only had pain with brain works normal so I was able to manage work properly. I started working from home 2 days each week since then and started avoiding as much as social interaction at work. I felt the need of support by ppl who can understand in general ( none of family and friends outside of work ever truly understands). So I started sharing this at work with one, then two, then three highly selective talents who I also trust 100% for confidentiality). I am very luck in that regards as each has been my life support ever since after the SA. They trust, believe, listen, research, analyze the daily situation with me together. I'm always amazed by their ability of comprehensive understanding this super complicated situation without experiencing it. I also told my manager I'm dealing with some health situation, but never told her more than that. I also told A couple other friends at work I am dealing with some health situation caused by medication without other details. The key is the exposure only provides more support and understand not stress or worry. I don't think it a good idea to share this with anyone, even the ones you have full trust, as some ppl will never get it and can cause huge harm. It takes both trustful ness and talent to be supportive to this very unique situation.

How have you been handling?

Oh, just to show a more clear picture of my work situation, when I go to office, I can hide myself there withou seeing anyone else most of the time, majority meetings can be dialed in not showing up in person. This helped a great deal as it's very hard to stay and pretend to be normal in front of people for long hours. I also try to dress up as usual and always make effort to give a quick smile to others on hall way so ppl don't really see anything wrong with me by the brief interaction. I consider myself super lucky with the flexible work situation in that regards, plus the team I manage is highly independent in delivering with minimal supervision. I know I could not have made it to today not quitting or failing otherwise.

Thanks for sharing, Lex. It looks like you manage very well at work. The flexibility and ability to work by your self must be crucial. How good to have those close co-workers who knows and help you with your situation.

I admire you for your ability to put "up a face", dress up and be able to do your job. Well done in this horrible and awkward situation that wd is. I can understand it must be very hard.

I had a demanding job until 1.5 years ago. It was quite flexible too and I could work from home once or twice a week. Two of my co-workers knew about my meds, two people I really trusted. But they couldnt really understand. One of them went on and off antidepressants with no problems (imagine!).

Then there was this big reorganization at work and I lost my position. That it self was a horrible story. We were a group of people that was very Ill treated. They wanted people to leave (but as we have very strong laws in Sweden on employers rights companies just cant fire.) So I just had enough and with long negotiation from my side I got quite a good deal. Paid for some time.

I felt relieved, but also grieved. It was a very good job.

These last 1.5 years it feels like wd has been harder then when I worked and could put my mind on other things.

I dont know if it's also because I have pushed the wd a bit, the low doses, or because my life feels so uncertain and lonely. Probably all of it.

I have a family, so I am not actually lonely. But in my work life I have lost my confidence. I have started my own firm, but due to wd I havent been able to do much. I long for confidence and more of a normal work life. I rent a room in a very nice office, but still it makes me very anxious to go there, as the people there are asking what I work with...and I dont do much...

They are so nice and in the same field as free lancers.

My vision/goal is to feel better after wd, and then have an income enough to live. I know I am quite good at what I do, but now - not be able to do it me makes me totally depressed. I dont like feeling sorry for my self, at all. But this is going so slow...

Well, I had a good morning. Something positive! ????

Take care. Hugs.

Amy. I think you're very strong and have a lot of insight and wisdom throughout this process.  You have done well just to keep working and setting up your own firm as well is just amazing.

Your confidence should come back in time even though it's taken a bit of a beating during this process. I think we can all get a bit " knocked around" by the whole experience but it seems to strengthen us in the long run. There have to be some positives !  :)

You seem to be following your intuition about what is best for you at this time and that's great . It's probably the best thing you can do at this time.

Thankyou Ali. I think we are all strong, going thru this hardship. All we want is to come out of this feeling free and clearer about life. Your last posts were so hopeful in regard to this matter.

I have dropped 0.001 mg every day for the last few days. Down to 0.649 mg today. I am so disheartened by the fact that I can feel these decreases. Especially today. Shakey, brain fog. And I realize that I might have to apply for sick leave in the beginning of next year if the taper is continuing like this.

I look at the tiny, tiny sliver I put in my mouth, it weighs less than 2 mg on the scale, and it's just so unbelivable how powerful it still is. It looks like nothing. But maybe it will be easier soon? I hope so.

Take care all.

hi Amy, I am so sorry things got tough for you lately! You know you are still in the process of getting rid f the evil drug effects, and things can be up and down for a little while before you are completely off and done with the final fine tune. I am very sure this is just a wave and will be followed by a window as it always did. And more bigger windows are on the way.

It's so frustrating that when we are in waves, the drug makes us think desparetly. It's crazy how my thinking is so opposite by hours everyday so I learned it's the drug fooling me.

I thought everyday for months this year about disability when in deep despair, that thinking stopped after the heavy drug reaction eased about a month ago. You will feel much better as it goes and try not to add the unnecessary worry now as I'm sure it won't happen.

I wonder why you changed taper schedule to daily decrees? Also do you usually feel better with longer hold?

Relax and flow with the symptoms, let it be and they will die off even faster.

Hugs,

Lex

Hi Lex. About tiny cuts everyday: I thought I could sneak the drug out. My thought was that I cant find absolute accuracy with every dose, so I might just cut tiny, tiny. I dont know... it's exhausting trying to figure this out :)

(I can't do longer holds. 20-23 days at the most, often less.)

I know I am catastrophizing about work, I have a hard time planning things and feel desperate to feel better. I try to vision the goal, going to zero. This won't be forever.

Thanks for the hugs, Brass! Hug you back!

I am struggling. I could go day by day like this if I wasnt so occupied with my future. I cant work with this brain fog and the fact that I cant makes me sink into a black hole.

I have come to a point where I really would need some recognition from a doctor. I am quite scared of the whole medical field. But if I am not better in end december I would need to find one.

Not such a positive update...sorry...

amy, hey.

hang in there. i know you know that this is exactly where i am at with things too. every cut is beyond intense. even the slight accuracy issues (i get the same w/ the liquid) can have ramifications; they are palpably felt. but look at how far you've come, right? it's ok to glance up and look in the rear-view mirror and see the dust trail behind you. you've earned that view. it goes without saying that the end of any endurance activity is the hardest; because you have to dig down even deeper to find the mettle to make in the last few strides. and all of us who have been around here know the guts and raw determination it takes to go toe-to-toe with this process. and when you add in the expectations and goals you hold for your life beyond withdrawal, the desire to cross the finish-line fast and be done with it is ever-present. you are not without symptoms, and they are impeding your ability to be 100% of what you want to be - for now... you suffer this... for now... i understand this completely.

you said your last update was not such a positive one - but it is honest. i've got huge confidence in your ability to persevere through this. even in your harder moments, you maintain a stability of character that gets you through to the next respite. again, taking into account where you have been, and how you have progressed, and where you want to go, i think you're going to be able to see this though to your goals.

hang in there,

Dear Amy,

I am so sorry you are not feeling well!

So incredible, at such a low dose. what are the symptoms you are having now?

You know what, the happy month you had back in summer is locked in my memory :). You were so happy and up lifted then. That time will come back again soon after this wave.

Also, just so you know that you ar not alone. I'm in a bad wave too, at a new level. In surviving mode again after the recent even faster cut ( reaction is chasing me like crazy).

We will get this over. I'm lying in bed this moment waiting for the pain to subside. And I know it will.

Big hugs,

Lex

Thankyou, dear Lex. It's mostly brain fog and dizzyness. With that come apathy and depression.

I have dropped more than during summer, but actually only like 4 % from the middle of August.

My thought was to be as stable that I could function at work, but no matter how I drop or not now I dont feel clear in my head. So work is postponed...

I will get there. It's just that the slowness of taper makes me realize I might have to change plans for this spring and just focus on healing. And this means being more open to people what is happening...which leads to feelings of anxiety and despair....

I am sorry you are in a bad wave too. I read that you have speeded up tapering. You are in my thougts, I really hope you will feel some relief soon. Are you taking daily swims still? I recently read that activity, like swimming, is beneficiant in wd. It helps refashion the nerve endings...I read that here (under Legacy or stress related mood disturbances):

http://rxisk.org/guide-stopping-antidepressants/

I know, I carry the summer like a treasure in my heart. I know I can feel good again. So can you.

Many hugs!

Hi Amy,

I totally feel your frustration. I was constantly thinking about and preparing for disability in June- July and that alone caused huge stress even I was not aware of it. I stopped thinking about that after the severe DR lifted during the fast taper. This whole thing changes so drastically and constantly along with how it makes us to think. Probably soon you will feel and think differently when the symptoms subside which will surely happen like in the typical wave and windows pattern.

Also about the clear brain, it's interesting that I found even I am in severe DR and bad hangover status, I seem still able to do some work like completely by subconsciouness. It's a very strange phenomena. Ppl say they don't feel my talk in meetings is abnormal which I have no much awareness what I was talking. I couldn't pick up new things though but the old information/ knowledge is still the in the background and can be pulled up by subconsciousness.

Yes, I'm still pushing to gym almost everyday. I always feel better in evenings so that's when I go. It always makes me feel better afterwards. My face looks almost normal out of the pool. I have the same feeling that the soothing water takes away the crazy electronic signals helping with the misfiring system.

I really hope the wave dies down very soon and you feel up and happy again soon. I'm looking forward to hearing the good news from you!

Hugs,

Lex

Thankyou Flowers. I havent seen an update from you for a while. I hope you are ok.

I spoke to my sister-in-law today. When I told her about my difficulties, she told me she had used citalopram (Celexa) for a year, first only cyclic, during pms. And she had no problem stopping. It was like a non issue for her. God! I felt so envy of her.

Had a good day with family outdoors. Bright clear sky, still warm. Autumn is coming and the colors on the trees are getting so beautiful.

I am fine Amy and yes thanks for reminding me I haven't updated for a while!

It is so strange that some people can just come off AD's without any problems. I have just stopped taking them in the past without problem but that was many years ago.

Thank goodness we have lovely surroundings to cheer us up. I love the Autumn colours too.

Reduced to 0.646 mg and doing quite well.

Right after and a few hours later after taking the drug I feel foggy, nervous and "dumb".

I can feel it's the "chemical" nervousness that makes my skin and mouth also feel like it's burning. But it doesnt bother me too much.

I have felt more accepting about my situation. I write ... and write again... in my notes that this will soon be over.... :)

Nice work with another step!!

The burning sensation is most mysterious to me these many years, still not sure it's from WD or drug.

Another step closer Amy.  I'm glad to hear that the cut is treating you well so far and that you're accepting the situation more.

(((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))

Tom

Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Oh dear, do you think those are from Zoloft side effects or WD?

I remember last time the burning disappeared after cut. Nausea is a sure WD for me, and burning seems from side effects. I'm still not sure about heart symptoms (tight chest, short breath, fatigue).

Somehow from your last few posts, I feel a possible tolerance issue (reaction after dosing).

Have you thought about a bit faster taper?

I meant the burning disappeared for you after a cut a while back.

I dont know. I'm so confused. The burning skin is a side effect, I think. And you are right, it disappeared after a cut. But the nausea puzzles me, it's wd to me too.

The tightness of heart, rushes etc...I dont know, can it be both wd and side effect? For me there is a difference between "drugged, rushing heart" (side effect? ...and what I have now) and "anxious, light heart" (wd?). If that makes sense? :)

I will taper more quickly after next week. I have something coming up and I dont feel brave enough to do it before.

I read the story of Nathalou, also taking sertraline. It's so heartbreaking what these drugs do.
