Made a tiny drop to 1,64 mg. Easier, because I dont have to measure with water. It weighs precisely 5 mg. Didnt feel the drop.

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Hey Amy, You sound like you're doing well. Just "cheering you on".  You are always so "positive" in your posts.   Wishing the best for you. You have certainly done this the right way.  I'm envious. I wish I had "known".

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Hey AliG, thanks! I try too ;)

Well, I had quite a smooth taper, except for a few horrible bumps. I try to look forward to the "ending day". All the best to you! Who could have known about these ssri, dont blame your self.

I have done mini-tapers every week for some time now (the Brassmonkey way?) and it seems to really work. I hardly feel anything after a drop. Maybe one night in sweat, and a bit shakey. In this way I have been able to push the taper faster than my usual 5 percent every month. Happy for that.

That's great news Amy.  Make sure to take a break for a few weeks every once in a while to let things settle out, don't want to get blindsided by an accumulation of symptoms that sneak up on you.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Amy,

So happy for you that Brassmonkey taper method is working for you!   You are so close to the finish.....and it is good to see that you didn't make the same decision that I made....jumping off at 4 mg may be the reason I'm having a hard time now.    I'm always here cheering you on!

I am down to 1,29 mg zoloft (the tiny sliver weigh 4 mg) now and I might have rushed it a bit. Feel strange and...unclear, anxious, nervous.

I feel like I have no focus in life and no direction. I just exist and try to carry on, feel better.

I finished work in January and I feel totally lost on what to do next. I have to be finished with this drug and be able to find some kind of work, and meaning. I guess this thought is worsening now when my kids are back to school and my husband back to work after summer vacation.

This unclearness is the worst with the taper. The feeling that you can't get the grip of your inner self. It will get better. I know that.

Amy that's totally what going on with me majorly! And all the yrs on the drug..but I didn't know it was the drug..

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

Love, that's horrible. I am so sorry you felt like this for years. I won't complain so much, I had good days. I really had. But this neuroanxiety is so hard to deal with. It feels so real. On this small dose I thought everything would be so smooth, but it sometimes feels the same as on a high dose.

Alto, I will hold for a while, thankyou.

I feel better. I long so much for when this is all over. I dont want to have these unpredictable up and downs. I dont want to feel that I am drugged.

I dont want to care about doses and scales. I hate being so self-centered, as this tapering makes me.

It has been a long journey (in hiding as I havent told many about my tapering). But I will come out of this grateful. For small things. For my life.

I felt so drugged, so I decided to drop yesterday to 1.26 mg. Better today! I dont seem to be able to hold for long on any dose (I feel drugged If I dont continue to taper), but as I never taper more than 10 percent per month I hope I am safe.

Otherwise I am touched and sad about the big refugee situation in Europe and on the Middle Sea. So much suffering! The media and the news is all about this now.

Dropped to 1.21 mg Zoloft. I try to be kind to my self, but I feel like a zombie, just pretending to everyone that I am fine.

This tiny little sliver I am taking now weighs 3.6 mg. It's so small, but still so powerful. I havent written much about this symptom, but my head buzzes all the time, more after a drop. I can handle it, but hope it will disappear.

Hi Amy-- I think you need to slow down a bit and let things settle out.  Your last drop was less than two weeks ago, and you did three drops in August.  The head buzzing and being a zombie is the cumulative effect of the drops catching up with you.  I know you want to get this over and done with, but I think you should wait until the middle of November before you drop again.

((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

Thanks for caring, Tom. I have not taper by more than 10 % per month, the drops were tiny. But I see what you mean. The thing is that I feel worse if I dont taper after a while (not this time though).

I have somehow lost patience too. I am free all day, and this situation depresses me. (Today I slept until noon...I know I am lucky to be able to just be at home, but I am starting to hate it.) I so much want to move on. But I will surely listen to my body. And not taper in desperation. Thanks again. I hope you are well. Hugs!

I feel so much better. The drops on the smaller doses hit hard, but dont stay long, anyway in my case.

I am down to 1,16 mg since yesterday. I felt so extremely tired this last week and the drop made me much more energetic. I recognize this, it has happened before.

I feel very optimistic today. We have a beautiful sunny autumn day an everything feels quite easy. How things change! The motto "it will change and it will get better" has helped me tremendously during my taper towards zero. Nothing stays the same. And as time goes, we change with it. For the better, I hope.

I wish you all well.

Joanne, I miss you! I hope you are well. <3 Thank you so much for the encouragement.

I am quite surprised how these small doses still affect me. But I know I am extremely sensitive, just have to keep going.

 Hi Amy,

Well done, you  !!   I think you're a great example of how successful " slow tapering"  can be.  Keep going.  You're doing  brilliantly !

Down to 1.11 mg . Today day 5. Feel sad and brainfoggy. I get nothing done... But counting down makes me happy.

I will go to my yoga class now. No matter how I feel this always makes me feel calmer and grounded.

Had a few days just crying. Lots of feelings of depression and meaninglessness. And headaches. Then today, woke up much better! God, how hard this is. But I must believe this more "normal day" is the more "normal" me. I hope and trust this.

Hugs and solidarity xo.

I took Zoloft at 50mg/day, then 100mg/day, for 18 months for Postpartum Depression. My dr wanted to increase to 150mg, at which point I decided I needed to get off (at about 1 year). I had many debilitating symptoms but it took me a while to recognize that it was the drug causing the problems. I tapered off over 6 months, and had lots of horrible discontinuation symptoms. I went from 100 to 50 by alternating doses (doctor's plan), for probably 2-3 weeks, then to 50, and stayed there for several months. Then down to 25mg/day alternated with 50 mg/day for a couple of weeks, then straight 25, then every other day 25, for like 2 weeks each time, down to one dose of 25 every few days, then off completely. I'm now 3-4 months drug-free but still experiencing severe mood fluctuations and some depression and self-harm. Just wondering when it's all going to end and when I'll be back to my old self. As long as the answer isn't "never" I just want to hear other stories. xo

Depression and sadness again. I just have to ride it out, I guess. Went to yoga, a bit better after that.

I have been tapering for four years and three months now. I am so so fed up. Maybe those feelings mix with the wd, I think so. Or those feelings enhance (right word?) wd right now.

On the positive side: Yesterday was good. I was working in the garden for a couple of hours and it felt so good. I sleep very well. I can read, I can watch tv, I can take long walks, I can sometimes see friends. I have to notice those things. Note to my self!

(And that said, it's so heartbreaking to se all the newcomers. But how great to find this place while recovering and tapering! Bless this forum.)

And bless you too! It is really great that you are recognizing all the positives....all the many things that you CAN do. Someimes that can be difficult but I do notice that whatever I focus on expands.....so better to focus on the good things. Four years and three months is a long time, but I think you are far better off in the long run for being so patient.

Dear Amy,

I'm so sorry to read of your recent struggles. You are certainly not alone in the feelings that you have experienced recently.

You have shown such patience, diligence and courage throughout your taper. You are approaching the finishing line. It is in sight. Hold on to this in your dark moments. You are an inspiration to me.

I wish you not only continued success in your taper, but the best of everything that life has to offer.

As always, you are in my thoughts.

Hello Amy,

You've been such an encouragement to me when you've posted on my thread - you have so much strength.  I can't imagine how you've done it for four years - no wonder it gets you down sometimes.  I'm so glad you have your garden and other lovely things - you deserve all the loveliness you can get.  I'm going to be tapering a long time too - at my current rate it will take me 8 years.

One day, you'll be through it - keep your heart linked into the good things in life.

Hugs and Love,

Karen

Dear Joanne, Tilly and Karen. Thank you for your kind and encouraging replies. I appreciate that so much!

I feel so much better today. The depression thoughts are not in the foreground. I guess my depression also has deepend this year after I quit my job in January. I long so much to be in a social context, laughing, doing things that are "outside" of me. But I will find that again. When I am ready.

I am thinking of you all. This is a long road, but it will lead to something better, I am sure. Take care! Xoxo

Current dose: 0! Free!  Quit June 2017.

2017: Last dose zoloft: 17 June 0,00065 mg 18 May 0, 001 mg 14 May 0,002 mg 9 May 0,003 mg 28 April 0,006 mg 19 April 0,009 mg 8 April 0,013 mg 25 March 0,019 mg 22 March 0,039 mg 18 March 0,052 mg 16 March 0,079 mg 4 March 0,086 1 March 0,099 mg 22 February 0,11 mg 15 February 0,13 mg 6 February 0,145 mg 24 January 0,15 mg 19 January 0,19 mg 10 January 0,20 mg 3 January

2016: 0,98 to 0,22 mg; 2015: 2,35 to 1,01 mg; 2014: 4,9 to 2,5 mg; 2013: 9,1 to 5,1 mg; 2012: 15,7 to 9,7 mg; 2011: Started on 25 mg - then 50 mg- dropped to 25- to 12.5 mg - back to 25 mg - after 18.75 mg started tiny tapering to 16.6 mg
