Recommended Posts

I just remebered that i wanted to offically announce that i have made it down to one 10mg pill now.

This is a amazing achivement and i do beleave this has only been achivable by tapering down.

I may have gone a little quicker than thought but i have always suck to elither 5% or 10% reductions after my inital drops that were to big.

My mood is fairly stable only with few days after a dose change that i get some agrevated symptoms.

Thanks to everyone who has helped so fair with all your support.

I've still had no withdrawal symptoms since starting CES therapy Freedom , and I did another drop 7 days ago.  I just updated my

thread if you want details.

I've found this whole process has challenged me in ways I didn't anticipate , e.g. working out how to manage financially.   There are

lots of ways to generate income outside of a 9 to 5 job , and I'm sure you'll be able to work something out.

Keep up the good work   :) .

Taper :

currently at 8.6mg.

Feeling it a bit over last couple days so holding now.

Also going back to my 5% reductions per week as i tryed couple 10% reductions and i think this is why i am feeling it more.

My mood is still quite good alot of whats happening now is quite physical.

That's awesome that you've made arrangements with your mortgage Freedom , and are organizing the things you need to.

I hate to be the one to say it , but if you were taking 10mg on June 5 and are now taking 8.6mg , you've done a 15% drop , right?

Not surprising then that you're feeling it.   Previous weekly drops of 5% will still be catching up too.

Ideally you'd want to hold a 5% cut for at least 2 weeks.   Please don't try to rush it bud , we just don't win that way.

Thanks dave for checking by and for your positive words ;-)

Thanks Fresh i am holding now.

Its hard as the reinstaement hasn't really been great cause i have struggled with the dose being to high and constant

side effects that i never had originally when first on the meds.

Most people around me have been saying i look a bit washed out over the past week so i will hold

It has been a better day today tho as the pain that i had yesterday in my head has lowered.

This is a pattern that i seem to be getting now when i reduce for few days cronic pain in head then as dose gos

down it go's.

I was going fine on my 5% reductions weekly with minimal disturbance above the daily side effects and have done that over the last 2 months now.

I think pushing the 10% reductions weekly was way to much and its been good in a way to try and then to know my limits.

My overall mood has been stable with no anixety or suicidal ideation and that is a classic wave sign for me if that happens.

Hope you all have great weekend

  • 3 weeks later...

Just checking in to say i am still going strong.

I am back to my 5% weekly reductions which i am still abile to do with minimal issues.

The biggest thing that seems to happen is about day 4 of reduction and i get cronic head pain which then go's

the next day.

Still getting all daily side effects of this medication nothing is getting worse tho so thats good.

I have set a goal to preduce a film by end 2015 so this will give me something to focus on whilst off work.

hoping everyone else is still going strong.

Brilliant! Whats the film?

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

As you know i have been attending the recovery center daily and i ended up doing a ten week course about equiping me with the skills to succed

so i had to set a goal and i decided to make a film by the end of 2015.

The founder of the course said she could help me and maybe even get some lottery funding to help preduce it.

I think i am going to make it around people who have been on the course just like me and have made positive changes in there lives as well.

Sounds great :)

Just an update to how i am going seems like a while since i have been on.

Reducing is going well and progressing on with this.

Withdrawl has been minimal with no waves at all at momment altho the continued side effects of the meds is the same but lower.

Seem to me managing to deal with daily life at moment a bit easier altho the physical sedation/anastic effects of the meds is still high even at this low dose.

Still signed off work and i dont think honestly i will make it back till i am fully off the meds.

Read a bit about the different types of metabolizer and i reckon i must be a poor metabolizer so that is why the meds have been affecting me so much

and i have always felt the dose has been way to high for me and even now its to high to function normally.

It says that most doses of meds are designed for people that are classed as a exstensive metabolizer.

Hoping everyone else is ok as well...?

Good to hear your taper is going well. Are you still holding at 5.4mg?

Hi Alto

Yes i am still going ok with my 5% weekly reductions at the momment.

I will hold now for a week at the 5.4mg.

If i felt i needed to hold longer then i would.

I have been very stable with my emotions since doing the 5% weekly and generally just get a day or two after drop of feeling bit distant.

Since getting past 10mg dose it seemas to have been more physical than emotional.

You may wish to hold for 2 weeks now, it sounds like your withdrawal symptoms have become a little stronger.

Still going on with my tapered withdrawl.

Positive things that happened are that i dont have the horrible dry month any more and my soliva is back. This hopefully will stop my gums receeding further and stop them being sensitive.

Second thing is looks like my hair has stopped falling out as well.

The overall side effects of the meds are the same but less as dose is coming down.

Still getting daily support from the drop in center.

Ok so i am still going on with my withdrawl.

The positive things are:

Mussle twiching in legs seems to have carmed down.

Body overall feels alot less involentry movements and twitching.

Having moments of feeling well generally early on in the day.

Emotions stable with no waves for suicile ideation for months now.

Blurry eyesight geting better but not totally right was always in the left eye.

Negitive things:

Pain everywhere as the meds reduce over the day especialy in my head.

My head seems to be the worst place thats getting it at the moment.

I think its the anestic propertys of the amitriptaline thats doing the pain as it says it

affects the opioide recepters which i am presuming are same ones heroin works on and they

get pain when in withdrawl ?

Man flue has also set in lol hopefully in few days that will go.

Hope everyone is well and still managing going through there journeys as well.

Freedom, what an awesome story you have!

You are like the poster-man for the taper method, and how to be gentle with yourself, even in the face of financial ruin.  Here you are, months later, nearly off the drug.  You still live in your house, you have things in place which will help you survive until you are better.  It's great to look at your signature and see those little stair-steps down off of the cliff.

I agree that the pain you are feeling might be upregulation of pain receptors.

Do you still have the migraines that drove you to the drugs to begin with?  How are you managing those?

You're an inspiration, it's great to see you doing so well.  I look forward to seeing your film!

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

Hi Jancarol

Thanks for your kind words and for reading whats been happening up till now.

I still got alot to go and the medication side effects are still ruff everyday altho i have made alot progress over the months.

Tapering is the only way in my eyes now for sure.

The headaches have been the last thing to deal with really because the anastetic side effects from the meds just makes all head and brain numb.

I am going hold for couple weeks now as i have managed to do weekly drops but i am really need break for couple weeks the rest.

Its getting harder to cut the tablets now to the precise weights as the drops are getting very small now.

I think the precision of the scales is now starting to showing up as i am having to weight the pieces up for 7 days then reweight them a couple times till get to

the weight needed.

I believe i can continue down to 0.5mg by weighing then may have change to liquid as the physical weight drops will be more than 10% reduction at that low

dose.

It would be nice to carry on with the scales and not switch to liquid as i havn't got clue how work out how to do it..?

I will see how feel once i am at 0.5mg when do people drop off I.e right at 0 or before..?

Thanks

I'm at 1.6 mg of amitriptline's cousin nortriptyline.

I do believe it does a have some effect at the low doses but the good news is, for me at least, the side effects are gone, ie dry mouth that caused a few dental caries a while back.

At the low doses do a longer hold between drops. I was cutting 10% about every two weeks but now that I'm below 2 mg. I feel a month hold is good.

Prozac 1999-2009 quit semi cold turkey.

2012 Placed on Seroquel 25 mg, Tranxene (Clorezepate) 3.75 mg 3x a day, Remeron 30 mg for anxiety/akathesia.

Weaned off Seroquel and Tranxene .to Remeron 15 Mg.

In May 2014 tried quitting Remeron at its lowest dose. Had severe withdrawals.Reinstated Remeron at 30 mg by doctor. August 5 2014 entered hospital. Doctor pulled the Remeron and bridged it to Pamelor (Nortriptyline) 40mg and Zyprexa 2.5mg.After removing the Remeron all my bad symptoms went away and I am stable.

9/11/14 - 7.5 mg tranxene, 40mg Pamelor, Zyprexa 2.5mg

12/29/14 -  20mg Pamelor, 1/6/15,  7/31/15 3.5mg, 8/10/15 3.2 mg, 9/15/15 2.2mg, 10/15/15 1.8mg

(Feb 2016 - 1.4mg Pamelor only -  OFF OF TRANXENE AND ZYPREXA SINCE DEC 2014 BENZO FREE Since 2014. Nortrityline (Pamelor) .8mg Aug 2016

Hi Chicken and AliG

Thanks for your replys.

First at Chicken

I believe altho amitriptaline and nortriptaline are cousins Amitriptaline is highly sedative vers what you are on. I think what has been the worst side effect of meds since reinstatement has always been the sedation/local anestetic effcts of the drug.

This has shown up the worst as numbness across face, head and brain 24/7 with slight wearing off through day but still there heavily at time to take dose again. This is why i have had to juggle the side effects ver the withdrawl of the meds as reinstaement

hasnt been perfect for me. I think it has brought stability in my emotions mainly and the ability to do very limited day to day routines ver the physical side effects of the medication.

AliG

Thanks i will read this. I know i am no where near ready to drop off yet and prob wont even be at 0.5mg just asking questions and will need to understand how to change over to liquid i think to try stay within the 10% drops i have been doing once very low.

Thanks forn the replys always appricate any help and support.

Hi Freedom , so happy to hear you're doing well.

Making a liquid is easy . . . specially if you use the scales ('cause it makes it more fun , lol).

Weigh say , 3mg worth of tablet (of active ingredient , not total tablet weight).

If you dilute it in 3mls of water , each ml. is 1mg.   Dilut it in 6mls of water , each ml is 2mg.

Draw up the required dose into an oral syringe (one without a needle in the top).

See Tips for Tapering Amitriptyline  http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1099-tips-for-tapering-off-amitriptyline/

You might consider a big hold at this point.    I've seen a few folks turn up here lately after a

"successful" taper without regular holds , and they crashed a few months after stopping.

Now that you've got your supports in place , take all the time you need.

1987-1997 pertofran , prothiaden , Prozac 1997-2002 Zoloft 2002-2004 effexor 2004-2010 Lexapro 40mg

Sept. 2012 -decreased 90mg in 6months. Care taken over by Dr Lucire in March 2013 , decreased last 30mg at 2mg per week over 3 months. July 21 , 2013- last dose of Cymbalta

Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months.

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

October 2015 , taking 25mg Pristiq. Capsules compounded with slow-release additive.

Hi fresh good to hear from you

I am currently at 1.4mg

The side effects are still high from the Meds

Sedation anistectic effects of numbness across face and head and neck

Pins and needles in hands feet and face

Blurry vision

Overall mood is stable which is the most important thing I would say within all this.

The overall side effects are getting less but still causing daily distress.

I had a wave 3-4 weeks ago of suicidle ideation for one day prior to that it was months since that happened and this is a key trigger to if my body is unstable.

I hear what your saying about a good hold before going the rest

I haven't been one for holding really as the physical side effects of Meds have been so hard to live with.

I will do few more drops to 1mg then have hold I think as its getting easier to live with the effects plus that's kinda a mile stone as well.

I understand kinda what your saying to do the liquids is there any type calculation to get the exact amount water needed to mix with the ingredients to get the dose required ? My mild dyslexia is kicking in and it's giving me brain fog lol....

Ok so i had meeting at work today about how things are going. After being off nearly year already i have had tell them i am not sure when i will be back.

I think i may get a max of another year off sick at push but they was already questioning my ability to come back and do my job role and if there was going to be any long term effects left over.

This is unfortantly out my hands as to which way they go.

My focus is solely on getting myself off medication and recovering from that.

Looking at my current reduction sheet i got at least another 7-8 months if carryed on weekly but i will have hold more as get lower as suggested so still quite way to go yet.

Luckly i have the recovery center to go to everyday so that is keeping me focused and about.

I got 2 more reductions which will get me to 0.9mg then i am going hold for few weeks to catch myself up.

  • 2 weeks later...

Decided to hold at 1.1mg for extra week so see if feel any bettter.

My drops have been clockwork but this time it went a further day with symptoms from reducing so i will hold an extra week and see after that how feel.

Also went and see my doctor today and discussed about the fact that its seeming to start getting harder as dose is lower and that i will prob have to hold longer between drops.

She said that i should take as long as needed to reduce the rest and she was with not rushing as well. She seems to be becoming more understanding around the situation.
