Are things settling down Mort?    It's like that isn't it , one symptom dissipates and another increases.

It must be nice to feel less fatigued , a reminder that your energy can come back.

I actually had one really clear day on Monday and went climbing around rock-pools at a local beach. I can

do this any time in theory , but haven't for more years than I can remember.  And it was fun , I went because

I wanted to , didn't have to push myself.  This is how I believe things will be when I get better.

Now , if only our symptoms could get themselves coordinated and all leave town at the same time. . .

How have the last few days been?

1987-1997 pertofran , prothiaden , Prozac 1997-2002 Zoloft 2002-2004 effexor 2004-2010 Lexapro 40mg

2010-2012Cymbalta 120mg

Sept. 2012 -decreased 90mg in 6months. Care taken over by Dr Lucire in March 2013 , decreased last 30mg at 2mg per week over 3 months. July 21 , 2013- last dose of Cymbalta

Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months.

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

October 2015 , taking 25mg Pristiq. Capsules compounded with slow-release additive.

March 2016 , 21mg

Hey Fresh ya it has worked like that for me lately. I am happy I have the energy to move around and I am very excited for when it fully comes back. My anxiety was awful for almost the full week. Worse than Ive ever experienced 100 fold. It has let up so much in the last few days. But today I woke up feeling really awful. Just a real feeling of sickness. Overall just beaten down today. Im also a bit overwhelmed I kinda wish I could speed up the time in days like this. maybe the week of heightened anxiety knocked me on my butt. Couldn't get out of bed and didn't want to. I know it will pass and better days are ahead. Sometimes I lose my patience but i guess that's pretty normal for us. We don't have a time frame for recovery we just know one day it will come. I love the beach I haven't been in 10 years. That sounds like a really nice outing. Something about the water, sun that is extremely soothing. We have lakes here but I really like the ocean. My family is planning a trip to LA in February so that could be my chance to visit the beach. I think by then ill be okay to go on vacation. Be well Fresh

  • 2 weeks later...

Just an update In the land of Mortville . Its late where I am, 4 am to be exact. Putting in a journal entry to look back on. I have been up and down alot lately. I probably had my best window a few days ago where I had so much optomism that I thought I might wake up and everything would be gone. I felt good , I was happy smiling while I was trying to sleep. A sense of Euphoria. That wasnt the case  as I woke up to a huge wave. The wave lasted I guess a few days. I am having trouble keeping track of days because my sleep is really off. I am sleeping at odd hours .I dont have a set schedule . Usually a really troublesome night of waves allows for 0 sleep .So than when I finally fall asleep ,  I do so for 7 or 8 hours. I cant force myself to get up as my body doesnt feel good enough to do so. I used to have nights like this before and during WD but my body was very strong so I could wake up off 2 or 3 hours and have a full day doing whatever I had to. Work , plans etc....

After light exercise I developed some really bad head tension. It seems my body or mind for that matter isnt ready for anything more than a walk yet. This is very annoying to me as I am 14 months off. I realize these symtoms affect everyone so different and in different areas/aspects of their life. Its all about TIME and I am not good at being patient. Having to learn this is a tool that will benefit me down the road , finding happiness in what you can do not what you cant is allowing for my growth as a person.  Sure I miss my life , It sucks this had to happen and it sucks that I had to suffer so much without help . However life is filled with these stories , we hear them everyday. I wont be sorry for myself , I have an ironwill to survive and be strong again.   I wont make another post on my thread until Jan to leave some time for some progress.

It's been interesting reading your thread Mort - you have come such a long way and describe so well  the variations of symptoms that we endure.

I hope things settle for you over the next few weeks and that you have some good experiences to tell us about when you get back here.

Best Wishes

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this symptom. Its only popped up in the last month. I seem to get so dehydrated that no matter what I do I fant quench my thirst. Its concerning to me and Im thinking I need to go to the hospital. Ive tried liters of water, electrolyte drinks and fruits. Nothing works. It gets worse as the day goes on. I'm not drinking coffee, im not eating salty, im not exercising. One thing to note is I can't get comfortable as my body temperature doesn't get regulated when this is happening. Im taking off and putting on clothes throughout the night. Anybody help would be appreciated.

Happy new year to everyone who might come across this thread! I am giving an update on my journey back to normality. I have had 6 weeks since my last update on here. Things have changed. I have had drastic swings of feeling okay and sometimes better than okay to feeling as bad as Ive ever felt. My windows are not yet "Good" windows but whats changed is my windows are better than feeling just "okay" which is how any of my old brief windows were.Whats also changed is my windows are  longer , I dont remember having more than a few hours of a window. Now I am getting 6 hours or longer windows .  I have even almost had full days of a window. Usually I can have an okay day or maybe slightly better the whole day , only to have the evening or night be really bad with a chemically induced feeling of anxiety or Askathisia. Often when I have these waves I get horrific nightmares with major sleep disturbances. My waves are just as bad but usually not as long but can still last awhile. I can see my progress more clearly now.Its easier to identify now. I have had some new symptoms pop up while others have gotten better. Some days I have no Akathisia and no Anxiety while other days my Anxiety/Fear feels like a chemical attack on my whole system. My waves are still too strong to really enjoy or get back to my old life but I didnt expect to feel good yet. I still constantly look over my shoulder when I am feeling okay because I expect and brace for a wave.  But sometimes the wave hits but doesnt hit so hard. Its been a true grind latley. I am hopefull that the next time I give an update I can report some more positive progress. I keep telling myself , Every minute , hour and day I get through is getting me closer to feeling good. To having Good windows and weak waves. I also try and tell myself that any heavy waves, pain and suffering is leading me to those good times again. Those heavy waves is a sign that I am coming back , it signals change which means I am adjusting and taking steps to a stronger and better me. May the new year bring healing to all of us and bring an end to any WD symptoms we currently are experiencing.

Just a thought about this symptom. I rent out a large  basement at the monent and just recently we had a flood and had a lot of work done. Since the construction I have started feeling like this. I have two windows so I have aired out my place and I always keep them open even in winter. I cant see  mold or anything like that . The workers did a good job. But I noticed it feels more stuffy and I was coughing alot at first because of the Dust.  I have been staying at my parents the last few days and its getting much better.  NOt sure what I can do about this if its the problem.

Hi Mort , for a stuffy room take a look at rock salt lamps. They draw in moisture and bacteria

in the air , and they look pretty. Also a "Cli-Mate" air-washer.

I had a stuffy dining area and it was months before I realized the carpet was soaked along one wall

from a burst pipe , so I got both the appliance above , but I like the salt lamp best.

I don't know about dehydration , but I have the temp. thing too , and clothes are off and on all night

at my place too. A damp/wet cotton tea-towel brings down the heat quicker. So long as you are

peeing okay I'd just keep drinking and wait for it to resolve.

Here's to a calm 2016 :)

Hey Fresh thanks for the suggestions. They sound good. I was thinking of adding a humidifier in my room but the salt lamp looks good!I may get both. The body temperature thing sucks. Makes it difficult to get comfortable. Its off and on for me, last few days not here. When symptoms improve others get worse lol. So my anxiety/fear has been heavy its very weird. No akathisia though! Things still running it's course. Calm 2016 is music to my ears :)

Have you tried epsom salt baths after exercise it releases tension out of the body... helps me sleep.

Seems when I am both cold and hot and can't decide which is the bigger problem it seems to regulate me temp too.

As for being so thirsty try some pedialyte at the shoppers drug mart it is for babies but for a time I increased the stocks for the owners of that company ...even today there is bottle in my fridge I will not be without it.

Those heavy waves is a sign that I am coming back , it signals change which means I am adjusting and taking steps to a stronger and better me.

That's a great attitude.  I believe that even though people feel rotten in waves, the crazy symptoms are a sign of the body adjusting all its systems to be better balanced eventually.  So healing is happening then, even though it may not feel like it.

It's a great sign that you are getting longer and better windows.  I hope you get even more better windows in 2016.

About the waves once you see a pattern once I did at least I felt some how more secure about it ... only to learn that the pattern breaks and new symptoms ect come in.. always shifting but when a pattern is in effect I always feel calmed by it even a window wave pattern I felt it was progress and one step closer to the end of it. Be aware it can shift to new symptoms and new patterns of windows and waves.

For me it was scary to not know what was happening after some time a long time I got my sea legs and learned to not fight it was the best plan as fighting it just made my symptoms and my suffering worse.  Acceptance is not my easy for me it is hard earning unevenly learned ..and still faulty. I have not idea why I am so hard headed I wish it weren't but I can't seem to make myself accept things I know are wrong... even for my own good I have to work that dance constantly even now... when I am really sick it is much easier... lol funny how that goes.

You may find it comes and goes when you notice a pattern a bit more peace will come with it or it did for me as I felt I knew what was coming next and that helped me be ready for it at least.

I wish you peace

Thanks alot BT i wish you peace aswell. I know what you mean about the pattern and how it's easier to surrender when things are really bad. I am noticing a pattern now. But like you said it can and probably will change. When my symptoms are not heavy I tend to fight my situation more.

I was born to fight just how I am made.. but maybe that is dead wrong I have learned to accept some of this as my constant seeking was increasing my symptoms and perhaps slowed the healing process as I was pushing myself every waking moment to find the answer to healing myself.  Rest and time were part of the answers for sure knowledge played a part as well...mixed answer at one point I got into Tolle and the power of now and that helped a great deal.

You may want to look at this if it serves you find if not throw it out.

Mort, hyponatremia is one of the withdrawal symptoms and it can make you dehydrated because water won't absorb without sodium. You should not avoid salt too much in your case in fact you can add a little bit of salt in your water to help absorb.

Citalopram 40mg from 2003-2015

Oct 2,5mg and crashed again badly and quickly raised to 4mg. It was then when I knew my symptoms were due to WD.

Jan 2016 2,6mg( in the middle of Jan after I had been on 2,6mg for a week I tried to updose to 2,8mg and immediately had bad reaction to it: akathisia for a day, andehonia got worse. Hey guys I always re-read this thread during a wave. And I am in a bad one. Bedridden for 2 days and counting due to a myriad of intense symptoms. I usually read the forum and talk myself out of reinstating. My gut says no but I dont know foresure. I am 17 months off and although Ive seen some improvements, I am not functional yet. Could a 1mg reinstatement make me much worse? I guess in tough times I need to know that by not reinstating im doing the best thing for my recovery or am I making a mistake by not trying reinstatement? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Mort

At 17 months out I don't think I would reinstate.  Your system has done a lot of readjusting over those 17 months, and reintroducing a med now could upset the apple cart, so to speak. You might be in a bad wave now, but remember those longer and better windows you have been having.

Thanks guys. Your right I've had better and longer windows in early January. I think this new wave has been terrifying. I think what's scaring me the most is im having those intrusive and suicidal thoughts again! I haven't had these in 6 months or longer. Out of blue I'm getting hammered. So I guess im just really scared. I know from the past they did go away. I guess im being blindsided. Hopefully this is the entry into a long window. Thanks for the support

They come and go that is just the way it is.  I sure does feel like being blind sided and nothing about this is easy the smartest thing to tell you just now it "This too shall pass"  and remind yourself this is a Lexapro thought and try not to feed the monster... I use to think oh ya Effexor thought and stop what I was doing if anything I did a lot of nothing too... and I would listen to a relaxation video on utube ...

I think the more I believe that this wont hurt me and ride the wave no matter what symptom flairs up is the key to making it bearable. Its when you attach yourself to a feeling or symptom it gets a grip on you and strangles you

Was on 30mg (Lexapro) for 7-8yrs20mg for 3 months (This was my choice my Doc wanted me to drop much faster)15 mg 2week10mg 2 weeks 5 mg 1 week0 since August 24th . PPI Dexlant  30 mg taper has begun. Cutting 20% currently.  using zantac as needed.  Benzo is currently 0.10mg

Is it possible for you to start tapering dexilants? Could they slow down the healing?

Jan 2015 started tapering first dropped to 35mgFeb 30mg, March 25mgApril 20mg, May 17,5mg, June 15mgJuly 12,5mg, Aug 12,5mg,

Sep 0mg for 5 days because of stomac flu and after I raised to 7,5mg. All the symptoms of acute WD shaking, diarrhea, vomiting, barely could walk ect. Still didn't realize that it wasn't only stomac flu but I was also going through WD.

Oct 2,5mg and crashed again badly and quickly raised to 4mg. It was then when I knew my symptoms were due to WD.

Then in November after a month holding on 4mg raised to 5mg due to muscle weakness and had a VERY BAD reaction to reinstatement: akathisia(lasted for one or two weeks), insomnia, anhedonia... Drop quicly back to 4mg, Dec 3mg

Jan 2016 2,6mg( in the middle of Jan after I had been on 2,6mg for a week I tried to updose to 2,8mg and immediately had bad reaction to it: akathisia for a day, andehonia got worse.
