Well update on my condition. Almost 4 months into this wave and I can watch TV again albeit not easily but better aswell as use the phone more frequently. The dizzyness is constant still but instead of a 10 it's about a solid 8. Head pressure has been completely gone for a week now so I'm hoping the rest abates soon and I can get on with my life. I still haven't been able to do the daily tasks. Someone makes my meals as I can't stand for more than 5 min without possibly falling. Very discouraged going through such a tough wave this far out, a basically bed ridden wave for 4 months. A wave like this with these kinds of limitations truly makes me not understand a damn thing about WD.

. Distracting yourself in WD is important and for 4 months I've only been able to stare at a wall in my bedroom. . That is extremely tough, at least some tv now is helpful and hopefully going in right direction.

Was on 30mg (Lexapro) for 7-8yrs20mg for 3 months (This was my choice my Doc wanted me to drop much faster)15 mg 2week10mg 2 weeks 5 mg 1 week0 since August 24th . PPI Dexlant  30 mg taper has begun. Cutting 20% currently.  using zantac as needed.  Benzo is currently 0.10mg

Hi Mort

So sorry you have had such a long time in this wave.

I see being able to watch the TV only for a short while as a huge improvement along with the head pressure reducing.

I hope that these small but significant improvements give you some hope and encouragement that the wave is easing.

Hope you see more improvements as the days go by.

Mort great to hear that the head pressure has gotten better for you!!! Man some people just don't know awful that can be at times (I mean if you were to try and explain that to those who've never had it). It's like a 100 pound weight is resting right on your head and nothing can take it away but time???????? If only I'd felt just a bit of that when I was taking the drugs I'd of quit them years before I did. Too late to do so of course though.????????

2005: Began switching from one ssri to the next. Very little tapering time was instructed by my psychiatrist. Tried just about every drug on the market. Some two or three times. Nothing reallly helped my moderate depression and anxiety. They only made things worse most of the time!!

2014: Began experiencing severe symptoms while still taking Zoloft, oddly enough. Was forced to quit drugs altogether.

2017: A new year begins having experienced substantial improvement. Still not sure if my symptoms were severe protracted withdrawal or a severe reaction to a med, or possibly a combination of each.

Thanks Johnny! Ya nobody would be able to understand the difference between an chemical headache and a normal one. This one was off the charts. 100lb weight on the head sounds accurate. When it came on I was done ice pack and Tylenols and lay motionless for many hours. I did that for months. Glad its gone!

Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Well watching tv getting even easier which is a big bonus. But developed a new symptom which is having difficulty breathing. Its been off an on for a few weeks. Definitely not digesting my food aswell at the moment so it could be acid splashing in my throat. Never had that before but I have lots of difficulty breathing. Trying enzymes, Acv, small meals. Hopefully just a phase because it's damn uncomfortable. I still take a PPI but it doesn't even work and trying to come off causes hell.

Can someone help with a reflux flare? Worse one I've ever felt. Lump in my throat and it gets worse after eating making it tough to breathe.

I didn't know if it was a chest infection or throat infection because I had an awful cold a few weeks back. But now I'm thinking it's just reflux which is traveling to the throat. Never had this before.

Im pretty sure once or twice during that cold I forgot my PPI which coukd have created rebound , although I've forgotten it before and never had anything other than minor chest burn and it went away fast. I'm on day 3 of a liquid diet and have added Zantac at night. Nothing seems to work. I worked so hard to build up my gut because I was malnourished and lots tons of good weight during WD. Now I'm losing weight again.

The crushing head pressure has left me and I'm able to make my meals but now I can't eat! WTF, FML.

I have been taking dexilant since the beginning of WD 2.5 yrs ago. Probably 1 yr ago I cut my dose in half 30mg it's in my Sig. I believe I had1- 2 months of rebound acid but even than not as bad as this. Anyway it stabilized and my acid hasn't been a problem until now. My diet is very good. Fnnnnn hell

1 other thing that just came to mind, totally didn't link the two together. But during these last 3-4 months waves for my crushing head pressure I was taking 1-2 extra strength Tylenols per day. Before this wave I took 1 Tylenol per month. This might have been a big shock to my gut?? Plus I take enzymes with HCL and OCCASIONALLY ACV. Maybe my gut is really irrated from nsaids. If so what do I do? Glutamine?

I am not sure about Glutamate I have not tried it.  I too had that horrid acid in wd for a very long time suffered lumps in my neck and in my chest food would not go down ect. I limped along probiotics may help.  I am a big believer in probiotics for a some wd stuff.  At my worst I took nine a day doctor directed no ****... 3 x a day I would open acidophalis sp don't care) into unsweetened apple sauce and eat it up...

I don't think tylenol does in your gut like other asprin like drugs... tylenol does in your liver... pick your poison.

Tums baking soda and cold water sip some see if it helps ... there are fast disolve berry tums that are smooth for some reason they did not make me sick and other tums do....

Sleep sitting up do not eat or drink 3 hours before bed... walk after each meal it may be a motility issue too get the food moving with some exercise ...

I have a hiatal hernia which did not help the acid reflux situation ...this maneuver helped...

"

  • Drink a glass of room temperature or slightly warm water when you get out of bed in the morning. (Skip the coffee, tea, juice, and cold water—just drink warm water.)
  • While standing, bring your arms straight out from your sides and bend your elbows so your hands are touching your chest.
  • Stand up on your toes as high as possible and drop down. You should get a pretty good jolt. Drop down like this 10 times continuously.
  • Then, while standing with your arms up in the air, breathe short quick breaths with your mouth open for about 15 seconds. That’s it.
  • it could help even if you don't have a hernia ...
  • water therapy 4 cups of water first thing  in the morning ya...
  • I did a lot of  crap to survive...
  • I have not tried glutamate but I have been thinking of trying it as it is part of the glutathione the master detox element in the human body... and I need to detox...
  • glutathione is made up of glycine... amino acid reportedly helps with anxiety and flushes out drugs or other things you may be reacting to... glutamate supposedly great for the gut... and the last ingredient in the recipe is **** I forget....
  • had to look cysteine
  • but I was a bit wrong too..
  • The only archaea that make glutathione are halobacteria. Glutathione is not an essential nutrient for humans, since it can be synthesized in the body from the amino acids L-cysteineL-glutamic acid, and glycine; it does not have to be present as a supplement in the diet.
  • avoid msg...
  • MSG: Heartburn and Health Risks - Strong

MSG carries significant health risks. I remove acid-reflux causing foods from my diet. One substance that may cause problems is MSG—monosodium glutamate.

lot of people on here and other wd sites gave me ideas such as ... licorice supplements... gingeea and candied ginger helped some... I was so reactive I would take a tiny nibble of candied ginger and then a huge glass of water ... it helped sometimes...

If glutamate is a magic bullet i would not know due to my severe reactions at the time I had acid reflux I was not trying any supplements I reacted to them even magnesium... which if you have not tried would be a good idea..

Natural Calm Magnesium can be bought in small pouches for a buck... try half or less to see how it goes... for years I could not tolerate now I won't be without it.

hope some of this helps tums... berry flavour smooth melt and water are now my go to... no more ppi drugs for me if I can help it.

And enemas :) yep that is what I said but at this point they are for detoxing my body not acid reflux... but who knows :)

    wish you peace

One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Fnnnnn hell

Mort,

I have the reflux issues too (but have had a break for about a week from it), ah yes, and phlegm that won't go away (been 2.5 months now).

Also, I was on PPIs for 6 weeks last year, but didn't taper off them.

It really does seem to be one thing after another doesn't it? When will we catch a break from all this?? My eczema seems to be a permanent thing these days, can't get rid of that either.

Did something stress you out Mort, which could have set off the acid reflux?

I know how particularly unpleasant it is, and it seems to happen in phases and then disappear.

Hugs,

JC

After years and years of watching people go thru wd on sites like this I think the gastro issues all of them are related to the drug and withdrawal of the drugs... so you don't really need to look any further... drugs and the damage done. imho... no it is no humble at all...

I was on ppi drugs for a few years while on meds and hit and miss ever since.... when I need pareit I take it but get off as soon as I can using other methods and I will try about anything at this point.. not as fragile as I once was.  Coffee enemas are my new thing they detox the body and are used by cancer patients after or during chemo to detox the drugs.  There are many sites discussing how to do this but the big one seems to be this one use for cancer treatment and other things....

What is the Gerson treatment?
The Gerson Therapy is a natural treatment that activates the body's extraordinary ability to heal itself through an organic, vegetarian diet, raw juices, coffee enemas and natural supplements.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Wow Btdt thanks for the long and thoughtful answer I really appreciate it ! I will take all your suggestions! I seem to have the acid under control but the damage In my Throat and esophagus must be pretty big because it was burning and felt raw and I couldn't eat. But the worst part about it was I actually have had episodes of not being able to breathe.

Even now my throat feels healing

but my breathing is labored. I've never in my life suffered reflux that cause breathing problems. I think I screwed up by throwing apple cider vinegar onto an inflamed throat. The Tylenol might have been okay. I'll do everything I can to avoid a hospital visit or procedure. I take magnesium it actually calms my body down alot. 100mg was just okay but 200mg I feel a big difference. I am curious about the coffee enemas because of that woman rose on the recovery stories said this was a huge difference in recovery. I may have to try one. How do they work for you?

JC ya i have been under more stress the last 3-4 months than ever before. The wave I had was huge dizzyness and headaches that were horrific I thought I was gonna die. And I was so stressed and upset being stuck in bed that long with no TV. So that forsure stimulated all the acid!

The phlegm is just slowly starting to come up. It felt suck before I couldn't get It out. .. You got exema now too? Holy crap damn these pills! JC IS THE phlegm clear or coloured? Mine is clear

Just woke up I've elevated the bed but somehow I wake up halfway down. Not flat but somewhere in the middle and my throat is worse than when I went to bed. This is a tricky one.

Mort,

The clear phlegm you mention is likely caused by the acid reflux.

Mine is pale yellow, and an upper respiratory tract infection.....going back to see the doc about this as it hasn't cleared after weeks and weeks. Now taking pleurisy root, echinacea and goldenseal to try and "get rid".

The eczema is a nightmare....this has been going on since last summer, and is the longest bowt of eczema I have ever had in my life. Very unpleasant as I have scratched my face up.

Praying that the homeopathy will work at some point in the future, lol.

Keep on ploddin Mort, we all have to.

JC I think so too as my throat felt very raw. I had my PPI increased last week and it's helped but still not gone, I have mostly a dry cough with sometimes lots of saliva. The only thing that's the problem is my breathing can be really affected. I can deal with sore throat etc.. But problems breathing is an awful symptom.

What you have sounds like what my mother has. She still has it after 4 or 5 weeks. She coughs a ton and has the Phelgm like you. Nothing has worked for her except something called Resperin which helps with breathing etc.. I may try it.

I've never had skin issues but that one sounds bad! My GF has eczema and it gets way worse after dairy but yours probably isn't diet related more drugs related. Keep on trucking and hopefully soon both our issues clear up!

Sometimes with other issues I've had, a homeopathic remedy did wonders for me. Whether it was all in my head or it truly worked I have no idea. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Naturopaths are also good. I'm gonna see one when I'm a little more stable to fix my gut and reflux for good.

Anyone else have this problem, I've done my best to avoid doctors during WD as much as I could with the exception of having to go monthly to my GP to get a note to keep my job until I was able to go back. I have been very successful it didn't matter how big or bad my WD symptoms were. Until now I've been forced to look into an issue and had 2 ER visits. I am very stressed out as the last ER Doc was a complete ass and told me all on my head and made some ridiculous suggestions without even looking into the problem. Now I have to see another doctor tomorrow to get a referral for as specialist. And this ******* doctors records will be transferred. So basically what I am getting at is how do you play the game without getting so angry about how you are treated? I feel like if im not in such a bad place to begin with than it is easier to laugh at what they say. But if I really need attention and I'm not taking seriously than its very hard.

I am lucky to have 3 people in my life to fully understand WD 1 being a psychologist But I have a big circle and nonone else does and says mean things to me unintentionally including my dad who lives with me lately. I really wish I could just go away with those 2 people and not answer a call or text from anyone else for a long time. Especially doctors I don't want to see another one for the rest of my life. Am I looking at this wrong about everyone else who doesn't care to understand or should I just focus on the 3 people who do understand? Maybe Im okay until someone resparks the anger like this week with the ER doc. I don't know, i know anger does me no good with rrecovery, I need that energy to heal so I'm looking for some advice. Thanks

Hi Mort. You are not alone there. I two ER visits in the past two months for very serious thyroid related issues. I know alot about my health status and they just do not listen. I have been dismissed from my osteopaths practice because I requested a referral to my choice of endochrinologist not hers. In fact, she admitted since she is new she was just referring me to the guy they bring in twice a month because they have no endo department. But, yeah, I have anger too Mort, especially this week after three very stressful encounters with doctors trying to funnel me back into the psychiatric system that i fought tooth and nail to crawl out of. And it just pisses me off to see many of my friends unwittingly being sent down this path, even teenagers and whole families! What I have had to do now is to completely remove myself from the health system that did this to me and go to my hometown with my mom and sister who get it and will protect me while I get my scoping done. And I have found a wonderful counselor off the madinamerica provider listing who is really helping and doesn't charge me alot. If you have support and cooperation from 3 people let them continue to heLP. I stand my ground with these guys now and make them partner with me instead of dictating me. Being as gently active through movement has helped me to let the anger, worry, stress go for the most part. Also the gradual changes in my diet, selective use of beneficial probiotics, digestive enzymes, and the necessity to gradually introduce d3 into my body. It hasn't been easy as I face many challenges like you. I may be way off base Mort, for what you need, but I thought I would give you my experience so far.

I am not a medical professional. My comments and posts are based on personal experiences. Please consult appropriate medical professionals for advice.

I was started on psych drugs back in the late 80's. You name it. I probably was on it. Tapered off final cocktail 2013-2019. For Hashimotos and high blood pressure I take Levothyroxine. Liothyronine. Spironolactone. Hydrochlorothiazide. Losartan. B12 hydroxy. Fish oil w/D3. Bee pollen. Magnesium Glycinate.

Marsha thank you so much for your thoughtful post :) I appreciate it alot!

I know exactly what you mean we are fighting against a system that's supposed to help us. Its very odd to try and navigate through the system, and frankly quite scary. There are some good doctors out there but we seem to run into way more of the bad ones. Plus the less we say about our history of meds the better. We have to keep safe from this system but also get treated when we need it.

I also have fought tooth and nail not to see any doctors during WD . But this last problem I had no choice. But I am doing everything I can to completely try and break free from the whole system until it changes.

I am glad you found a good practitioner on MIA! I have one aswell here in Toronto who I see when I can and my mom talks to him about me. I think that's why my mom mentioned to the ER doctor I had been having stress from WD. She talks to this doctor so much she thinks it's more commonly known than it is.

I have my mom and my SIGNIFICANT other who are amazing probably how your mom and sister are. We need these people because it's awfully hard to advocate for yourself when dealing with WD symptoms.

You sound like a strong woman! And I don't want to be pushed around either by these doctors. I am gonna try and stand my ground, I think it will come easier when I'm a bit stronger. Its like they feed on the weak..

I have been incorporating new things like kefir and old things like magnesium, was gonna try a fish oil until this breathing problem started I like your suggestions alot! I'll continue doing stuff like that and I'll definitely do gentle movement when my breathing passes to help with anger. Thanks Marsha!

I'm starting to think all I'm having is epshogeul spasms from the massive tension my body has been under for the last 3-4 months. Its in my lower throat area and chest but the feeling is being very restricted in breathing even though I'm not and obviously when in chest feels like a heart attack . But that's exactly what it feels like. I'm getting so many weird symptoms it's unbelievable, just want the extreme side to go away already.

I think I had a similar sensation Mort a few weeks ago.

It scared me, but I had pain in the lower throat/chest area......like a painful spasm. Fortunately it didn't last and only happened after I had gone to bed, and then faded away.

That was towards the end of a longish bought of reflux.

Tension definitely effects every muscle in our body including the digestive system.

Hey Mort I just read your entire thread.  You haven’t posted on it for awhile. I was wondering how you was keeping now  ?.  If there’s been any improvement in your symptoms ?

Cheers Steve

1)On Seroxat (Paxil) 14 years

Stopped working.

2) September 2017 cross tapered to Mitrazipine 15mg over 4 week period.

3)Six weeks after cross taper tried to reinstate to Seroxat at low dosage. Lasted 10 days. Failed.

4)  Remained on just Mirtazapine 15mg for 8 months.

5)  in May 2018 attempted cold turkey from Mitrazipine. Lasted 4 days. Failed.

6) reinstated 15mg for 9 days

7)  reduced dose of Mirtazapine

to 7.5mg. Been on  this dose for  six weeks to the present day and I’m now totally unstable.

Hello @Mort81how are you doing now?

01/2017-12/2022 ~6 Years on Generic Escilitopram (5mg-20mg) because of repetitive panic attacks and anxiety that lead to depression. My tapering was not tapering as I read here. I consider it CT because of wrong directions of docs, I went from 20mg to 5mg in a short amount of time and then jumped to 0mg.

•01/07/23 Took maca root powder for pssd for 4 days only which I think worsened my symptoms a lot.(Not sure if that was the cause or what came was supposed to come)
•15/07/23-01/08/23 Prebagalin) 2x50mg

01/08/23 - 05/08/23.  75x50mg

06/08/23 - 18/08/23 2x75mg an then reduced 19/09/23 - 23-09 to 75x50mg

24/09/23 - 1/12/23 2x50mg.

1/12/22- ongoing  2x45mg( on first week of December happened a mistake in liquid I made and took 4  times double dose  )

15/01/24 -  ongoing occasional 5mg  diazepam for anxiety.
