Still wondering if the tea lady is ok ha! Good your appetite is there. I wish you every success in your taper this time round! :) xx

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

Poor old tea-lady . . .although  I'm sure she's seen worse than my behavior working where she does.

Truth be told , I didn't remember much at all from hospital - I thought I was "upstairs" for 4 days , turns out it was 14.   I got all

the information about the admission from the papers they gave me in discharge.   It's taken me this long to be able to sit with

them and work out what went on.

One of the brilliant ideas I had in the 80's was a device to lift the toilet seat by pressing a pedal. Brought on by lazy flatmates ,

it could have been a winner.  In 1998 I met a guy and had the opportunity to move to an island in the south pacific , so I did!

I loved the idea of having a house-boy ,lol , and was desperate to leave my life , so it seemed like a fantastic opportunity.

In hindsight , it wasn't going to be happily ever after , but at least I gave it my best shot (with fairly disastrous results , I might add).

Ah , richness of the tapestry that is my life . . .

I've modified my expectations of myself now.   This journey has been so humbling.  The lessons I have learned have not been

chosen , more like bestowed upon me.  Let's face it , this isn't the script any of us would have written for ourselves.

I'm not sure what the whole bigger is or where it will take me , but I do believe that when we get past the debilitating effects of

ssri's there is life on the other side.  Good news for this week:  I got me a barrister!!

Hi Fresh, haven't read all your thread as I can't focus too much, but you seem to be doing well. Do you plan on staying on Pristiq for a longer time? I wish I could go back to pristiq, it's the one medication that helped me so much with my depression, but the one that started the horrible withdrawal/polydrugging journey when I decided to come off it. I wish I never had. I was doing well on it. I don't think my body could tolerate it as I'm too sensitive now. But you're so lucky you can take it and feel better.

-Effexor 150 mgs (2001-2009). Severe withdrawal symptoms during and after tapering for 6 months.

-Pristiq 50 mg (2009-2012) Tapered over a year. Worst year of my life.

-Prozac 20 mg (2012) Tapered over 6 moths to ease withdrawal. Still had severe WD symptoms.

- (2012-2014) Doctor tried more than 20 medications for depression and WD, leaving me hypersensitive, and in protracted withdrawal.

- Most debilitating symptoms during protracted withdrawal have been deep depression, anxiety, brain zaps, fatigue, akathisia, twitching, headaches and terrible PMS.

-January 2015: Started Lamictal 12.5 mg, increased to 25 mg.- Bad reaction when updosed to 50 mg. Stopped.

-February 2015: Doctor tried new antidepressant Brintellix - Horrible reaction. Discontinued completely. Severe AKATHISIA started.

-March 2015:  Started TMS therapy (Transcranial magnetic stimulation) for severe depression. Didn't work.

-July 23-August 12: Had 10 ECT sessions which took away my protracted withdrawal symptoms including: akathisia, brain zaps, muscle twitches, fatigue and depression. Stopped medications.

-September 2015: Experiencing bouts of depression again and muscle twitching.

-March 2016: Started 20 mg Nortryptiline for depression. It helped.

-August 2016: Slowly tapering Nortryptiline.

Happy Easter Fresh!

Hope you had a pleasant Easter and are feeling more like a spring chicken than the one spinning on a rotisserie.

December 2008 Prescribed 20mg citalopram (celexa) for depression and OCD.July 2013 stopped taking citalopram (celexa). November 2013 reinstated citalopram (celexa) following replapse at 20mg for 4 weeks, 40mg for 4 weeks and tapered off over 4 weeks as my condition had deteriorated. February 2014 started 20mg of fluoxetine (prozac). Didn't tolerate it and stopped 4 weeks later, experienced no withdrawal. May 2014 started 25mg of sertraline (zoloft), increased to 50mg after 1 week. Remained at 50mg for 4 weeks before increasing to 100mg at the request of my psychiatrist despite advising of suicidal ideation for an additional week before stopping. Advised to drop to 50mg for 3 days before withdrawing altogether. I did as advised and horrendous withdrawal ensued. 11th August 2014 commenced escitalopram (lexapro), weaned off end of October 2014. Commenced Clonazepam December 2014 0.5mg twice daily, switched to Diazepam 10mg twice daily with a view to tapering of the benzodiazepine altogether. Tapering schedule presently at a reduction of 1mg of Diazepam every 1-2 weeks depending upon side effects. So far experienced no severe physical side effects except worsening of PGAD symptoms upon reduction which does seem to improve within a few days of doing so. Presently taking no antidepressants however still experiencing mild agitation, severe depression and PGAD which is currently being treated by a physiotherapist.

I'm feeling the best i have in many years , although I need to sleep too much to do anything much.  About 3 hours away from home is my limit.

I was invited to a dinner on Friday night , casual buffet-style , and found myself talking with some very interesting people.  I need to go to things like this to regain confidence and practice those rusty social skills.

On Saturday I visited an elderly aunt and uncle who I haven't seen for around seven years , and they live only 15 minutes away.

That was a biggie  - I've felt such guilt about not seeing them , and I always felt very close to them when I was a kid. It was a lovely visit , and a big relief.   Sad to see them getting old , but happy we've reconnected.

The other new thing has been coloring mandalas online.  I've been so consumed with just surviving , I haven't done things just for fun much.  (see the mandala thread in Off-Topic).

Today I ordered a CES device from ebay , a Sota Bio Tuner.   Hopefully I can get a bit of what bloodrush did  :) .

Peggy , if you can find yours you can get $200 for it , lol.

After skyping with a member on here , I'm going to try an experiment with my meds.

I've been taking Pristiq in the mornings , and am needing to sleep within 2 hours of taking it.   So I'm thinking I'll

try it at night and hopefully be more alert in the daytime.  Am thinking I'll miss it tomorrow morning and have a smidge in the afternoon if I need a booster.   Then start it pm and see how I go.

The weather has turned here and daylight savings has ended.   Time to get more disciplined with regard to

walking.   I've slacked off the last few weeks and am feeling more wobbly already.  Skinny and wobbly , argghhh

Love and blessings ,

Oops , the mandala page is in Symptoms and Self care.  Here's one I prepared earlier. :)

Loosely translated to mean "circle" a mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness

and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself - a cosmic diagram that reminds

us of our relation to the infinite , the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.

Lovely Mandala, Fresh!

Also, it sounds like you're making some very good strides in recovery. Yay!

1988-2012: Prozac @ 60mg (with a few stops and starts)

Fall 2012: Returned to 40mg after discontinuing and horrid withdrawal

Fall 2013: 40mg Fluoxetine, added 150mg Wellbutrin to treat fatigue

Winter 2014: Attempting to taper both (too fast)

April 2014: 9mg Fluoxetine + 37.5 Wellbutrin

Summer 2014: 8 mg Fluoxetine + 0 Wellbutrin (way too fast a drop)

Late summer/Early Fall 2014: Debilitating Withdrawal symptoms

Fall 2014 - Wellbutrin successfully kicked to the curb but…

Oct- Dec 2014: Panicked reinstatement of Fluoxetine ->30mg - held for 5yrs

Jan 2021: taper to 20mg Fluoxetine  then tapering by 1mg every 2-3 months

Fall 2022 - held at 10mg->December 2022: 9mg->Feb 2023: 8mg ->March 2023: brassmonkey slide begins: 7.8mg -> 7.6 -> 7.4->2 week hold (April)->7.2->7mg->6.8->2 week hold->6.6-> 1-month hold ->(June)-6.5->4-week hold-> (July)-6.4 (discontinued brassmonkey slide and slowed taper)-> (Aug)-6.2->(Sept)-6.0->(Oct)-5.9->(Nov)-5.8->(Dec)-5.7->wave!->(Jan)-5.8->(Feb)-6mg and holding.

Hi Fresh, so glad to hear you are feeling better! I always enjoy reading your posts. I completely relate on the need to get out more, and reconnect with family and friends. This whole process is so demanding until we start feeling a little better, and then we realize how disconnected we have become. I am in the same place. But it is a good thing, it means we are healing. Cheers!  :)

2005-2009, Lexapro 10 - 20 mg, CT WD w/severe depression and anxiety:  2010-2015, Paxil, 30 - 40 mg, tapered off at 10 mg/week, moderate anxiety and depression:  2010-2015, Clonozapam 0.25 mg, as needed for anxiety and sleep:  1/10/2015, Zoloft 25 mg, tried to increase to 50 and 75, but nausea and dizziness:  2/13/2015, Paxil 5 mg, added back after 2 weeks at zero to reduce WD:  2/28/2015, Paxil 10 mg, increased from 5 mg to reduce WD, HOLDING:  3/04/2015, Zoloft discontinued (reduced to ~12.5 mg on 2/19, ~6.25 mg on 2/26, then zero):  4/26/2015, Paxil starting 10% taper (no scale so was inadvertently at 20% taper, yikes!):  4/30/2015, Paxil 10 mg, reinstated (WD disappeared between August 2015 and May 2016)

5/02/2016, Started 10% taper, reinstated to 10 mg on 5/11/16:  4/29/2017, Last dose of Paxil (working with holistic psychiatrist, lots of supplements to aid WD):  Primary symptoms: apathy, demotivation, anhedonia, fatigue, stress intolerance, moderate social anxiety

7/1/2018 Finally feeling like myself again, success!!! Praise God! Even with the stress of relocating recently, I am feeling pretty good most of the time now. Granted, I eat healthy, I exercise, I don't drink caffeine or alcohol and I try hard find a healthy balance of quiet and social times. Hang in there and keep the faith, you can do it too!

I really appreciate your comments and support , so big thanks my friends.   I truly do feel that on this site folks just "get it",

and i love that.   :D

Today I wrote a song.   I figure things like this are therapeutic as well as a bit of fun.   It's sung to the tune of "Modern Major General"

From Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado.

I started off my journey with Pertofran then Prothiaden

I'd really felt depressed and I just wanted to be fine again

I took the pills , I went to work ,I focussed on my life and then

I stopped the pills , became depressed , so back to the Prothiaden.

The doc. suggested Prozac with a little bit of Frisium

It wasn't good , I got too thin with agitation maximum

It made me hyper-sexual (a field in which I did excel)

But overall it was no fun, so ceased Prozac and Frisium.

Well then I started Zoloft and I needed the Ranitidine

Trigeminal neuralgia prompted me to carbamazepine

One dose gave me an allergy , a rash that crossed my whole body

So on to Gabapentin which I really felt was fine for me.

Effexor for a few years then I changed to Escitalpram

With help from my dear doctor in the form of the Temazepam

Then Epilim did not work out , my hair grew thin and I grew stout

Six years on forty Lexapro - my life was stuffed - a pharma sham.

A quick stint on Moclobemide was something that I hadn't tried

It didn't help , I wasn't well.  Diazepam was by my side

So then I tried Duloxetine for two more years it was my scene

Just trying to survive the time was tough , I felt I had to hide.

I tapered the Cymbalta very badly - I did a big drop

One twenty down to thirty quite by accident, and quite a shock

But I was tough, I'd sit it out , I tapered off and waited 'round

But I got much too sick and so to hospital I had to pop.

Well they were just not shy about this modern poly-pharmacy

Mirtazapine , lorazepam were seen to be what's good for me

Olanzapine was tried OH MY I smashed a chair and didn't mind

Quietapine was next and it did seem to help what ailed me.

So now it's just Pristiq and I'm okay you know.  I did survive

I taper very slowly and I do my best to live this life

The pharma-scam , well it got me , and others too as I now see

One day this will be over and my life has changed but I will thrive.

Continued healing to all ,   Fresh

Very good :)

Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

that gave me a smile and now I have the tune as an 'ear worm'!

Started in 2000 - On 150mg most of the time, (but up to 225mg at highest dose for 6 months in the beginning)
Reduced off easily first time - but got depressed (not too much anxiety) 6 months later
Back on effexor for another 9 months.
Reduced off again with no immediate w/d - suddenly got depressed and anxious ++ again 3 or 4 months later.
Back on effexor - this time for 3 years
Reduced off over a month - 6 weeks later terrible anxiety - back on.
Rinse and repeat 4 more times - each time the period before the anxiety comes back got shorter and shorter

Update:    Things have continued to go well.    I've done a couple of new things and have risen to the occasion , but collapsed

seized up with physical pain for the following day or two.   Must try to pace myself better. Had to miss dog-training last week   .

Started CES therapy (Cranial Electro Stimulation)  and am on Day 5.    Nothing remarkable to report yet.

Have done another decrease of Pristiq so am looking forward to getting sneezy and snuffly in the next few days.

No big change due to moving pristiq from am to pm , but think I may as well keep it as a pm dose now.

I've been messaging on skype , and often get my letters mixed up , specially when I'm tired.

So I asked my friend if there was a pill for typing , and he suggested Typexor.

I think the slow-release version is Venlatypexapine.

Any input is gratefully appreciated   :D .

Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months.

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

October 2015 , taking 25mg Pristiq. Capsules compounded with slow-release additive.

Hey Fresh, you sound great and happy, but just be careful not to run yourself "ragged", trying to catch up on life. "Been there, done that".

I haven't had the intensity of your "Akathisia  ", but feel like I've been doing this a long time. Having said that - "Enjoy! "   I'm so happy for you.    Luv,   Ali.   :)

I had no that pristiq made you all sneezy and snuffly. I have been getting the same thing. I have been off pristiq since March and only recently started getting all stuffed up. Yesterday my left blocked up and my nose was stuffed. Maybe that's it. I wouldn't have believed that an AD could possibly give you wd still after only being on it for three weeks. Gosh what horrible stuff. My symptoms seem to get worse as time goes by. Plus I can't believe I was taken off this horrible drug cold turkey.

Cali , lots of people get "a cold" from withdrawal.   I've often had cold symptoms over the years and thought it was from allergies.

Good to see you Hopefull.   The mandalas are pretty , aren't they?    Quite satisfying to colour in too (online mandala

coloring therapy) Love to know more about your friend's CES therapy.

It's been six days since my decrease and I haven't had any w/d symptoms yet.   Not to be pessimistic , but I was prepared for them.

I thought it would be like the last decrease , with symptoms starting in about 3 days.

Don't want to speak too soon , but can't help wondering if the CES has anything to do with it  .

I seem to have overdone it last Saturday (again)  (I know Ali , you did warn me)   when I went out for a few hours.  Farmers' market

and 2 visits to friends.   Then was awake from 3 till 5:30am (Sunday morning).    Ready to go back to sleep at 5:30 , but the alarm

was set for 6:30 for dog-training.    Decided I couldn't do it , so turned off the alarm and went back to sleep till 11.

I find the unpredictability very frustrating.  Next weekend I'll try staying home on Saturday.

Let's face it , my dog won't learn much if we keep missing the classes.

Hi Fresh,

It could be that CES is working for you. Do you feel anything? Is it covered by private health insurance? I met this lady through mindfulness course, she said that it worked for her and now she is going for a top up. She is happy with the results. I really hope it works for you. I am happy that you are doing well. Maybe it does help with the withdrawal symptoms. :)

I just popped in to see how you're doing Chia.  So happy you're in a good space.

Ditto to what brassmonkey said so articulately.

My ability to be too involved fluctuates , and I need to remember that I'm in charge of looking after myself first and foremost.

It doesn't help me to prioritize cyber-life over real life , and it's an ever-changing balance.

'Reclaiming my brain" . . . love it    :D .

Hi Fresh - thanks for your visit! Sounds like you've had some peppy times mixed in with your sleepies. Good!

I think after some of us pop out of a real downer into the sunshine, it's really energizing, and well it should be!

But I've settled down and am doing my part to stay level. Now I'm humming rather than buzzing, but the buzz was nice. Humming is pleasant.

I liked your pedal toilet-seat-lifter idea. I see they have something to train your cats to use the toilet. I'm surprised a self-cleaning bowl hasn't come along. Maybe it has for all I know.

I also like your mandala. I have a small stack of patterns I printed out for when I might need to calm myself down. Coloring has helped me when I'm in a storm. I use the colored pencils.

Very cute and creative meds poem too!

I'm off for a day outing with my two young-adult daughters today. I haven't been there much for them in the past half-year or more, so I'm glad I'm feeling up for a girls day out.

I'm doing okay with my sleep thankfully, but I know what your upheaval in that area is like. I began practicing serious sleep hygiene back in Dec when I realized I was in severe AD WD and have been reaping the benefits of that. Not perfect, but consistent.

Friends of ours did an incredible job of training their dog using a video course. That dog was amazing (died of old age). Maybe you could DIY. They were pretty disciplined though, I don't know if I could have done as splendid a job. That dog could do tricks of all kinds. Come to think of it, they even trained their cat!   :)

A good day to you!  -- Chia

Brilliant idea about using videos for training tips , thankyou Chia.    We still have to do "homework" (practise) , which

can happen any time.   The goal is to have the chihuahua qualify to be registered as an emotional support dog , so

it's going to take a good while whether we get to the lessons or not.  I just hate that I can't be consistent yet.  I don't like to

commit to anything because I'm too unpredictable.   I get hit suddenly by the "need to sleep" , and can push through if

I need to , like if I have an appt. , but can't enjoy much in that state.  I need to be patient.   And gentle with myself.

I'm starting to get VERY excited about my CES therapy.   This is Day 7 and still no w/d symptoms.   I'll be able to believe it

if I get to 2 weeks without w/d emerging.   Either way , I intend to stay on the new lower dose for a month.   Too scared to push it.

It's a bit rainy (lol) in Sydney atm .... lovely to be warm and snuggly indoors.  No pressure to be out doing life  :D .

Ok. Will do. I wondered what that was. Sounded "a bit strange". Thanks Fresh.

Day 16 of CES therapy . . . STILL no withdrawal symptoms since my last decrease of pristiq on 15 April.

That's over 2 weeks since the cut , and no fallout.

This is totally different to my previous cut , when I had a month of symptoms.

It can only be that the CES therapy is affecting the withdrawal.   Nothing else has changed.
