akakoom: lost in no-man's-land

am I making progress?  I don't know...

You know  that "jump" feeling you get when you are startled by a loud noise?  Well, I haven't felt that since I first took the meds... until yesterday.  I was lying in bed half asleep when the phone rang, and it startled me.  It felt almost normal.  Now I notice I sometimes feel startled, sometimes not... like its happening half as often as it should.  which is better than nothing.

also yesterday I felt ginda giggly... like I  was finding things that wouldn't normally be funny, making me laugh.  Today however I feel emotionally blank, and my head is on fire  again. i guess i burned out some neurons feeling "normal" feelings yesterday.

March 5, 6  2015 1 10mg Paxil each day - only 2 pills total - experienced huge tingle in my head on first pill

numbness in my hands and feet, skin less sensitive over all... not ticklish anymore

**anhedonia, blank emotions

PSSD, anorgasmia

heartbeat rhythm problems

I guess the giggly thing was some sort of window. I have these too. Moments where everything is great and funny.

I'm not sure if this is some kind of neurotransmitter dysbalance or if it's just so great to feel normal that I have to giggle. If the neurons were damaged, you wouldn't be able to giggle at all. I'm sure it's some sort of "neurotransmitter supply traffic jam"

Feb 2015 Took venlafaxine for 5 days only... experienced withdrawal that made me completely non-functional

Mar 2015 took under 1mg of Sertraline for 10 days in an attempt to combat Venlafaxine withdrawal. Got adverse reactions.

After stopping Sertraline, withdrawal got much worse. New, horrific symptoms.

June 2015 Still non-functional but slowly getting better. Still brain zaps, migraines, sweating, heart racing, depression, crying spells

September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating.

How are you doing akakoom?

Dec 2014 I tried Zoloft 25mg for one week (adverse reaction - extreme anxiety and felt like I was on an amphetamine). Dr. said to quit cold turkey, so I not only quit Zoloft but also 2 weeks of Xanax .25mg -- extreme dizziness, hyperarousal and anxiety began! On Jan. 29, 2015 my psychiatrist put me on new stuff and this is how my next 2 months and 7 days looked like (I was having the same bad reactions to all of these):Effexor XR 37.5mg (3 days) - throwing up, heart palpations, night tremors/convulsions or something where whole body shakes for a second, Prozac 10mg (15 days), Prozac 20mg (7 days) - internal restlessness, electric current through body/brain (not zaps), agitation, intense fear and could no longer nap at this point (still can't today because of this), Lexapro 5mg (4 days) - same as Prozac, a horror show...extreme internal agitation, Lexapro 7.5mg (2 days), Lexapro 10mg (16 days), Zoloft 12.5mg (3 days)...she said try it again since my blood relative does well on it, Zoloft 25mg (7 days) - same as before and getting worse!! Zoloft 50mg (6 days), Zoloft 25mg (4 days and then came off cold turkey on April 8, 2015). I used Xanax .25mg about 7 times per month through all of this until June 30, 2015 (my last benzo dose). Extreme anxiety, nervous system traumatized, mental akathisia, anger triggered by nothing but the brain totally going off on its own, feeling of a pressurized electric current going through me like my brain and body are trying to explode, stress reaction x10000 to everything, waking in terror lasting all day, fear, very sensitive, brain can't keep up, don't know what to do with myself, feeling like everything is going too fast and I can't keep up, helium head, deep depression like something is ripping out my soul, out of my mind, can hardly drive or be alone, cognitive issues, simple tasks are so complex and straining, feel disturbed because the brain can't process anything right even though your brain tries so hard and it makes you go mad, episodes of deep anguish with a sick toxic poison feeling (like you have some unknown virus).

akakoom, are you taking any supplements?  I tried a Vit C the other day and got the fizzle feeling in my head and my electric surge through my body got worse.  Might have or might not have been due to the Vit C, not sure.  If you are taking any supplements, they might be making things worse.

Oh, and I went to a new psychiatrist today and she said I am definitely in withdrawal.  She said people who have adverse reactions may take more time to recover than those who did not.  I just know you will recover.

Since you found a doctor who admits there is such a thing as wd maybe you would consider adding the doc name to the doctor list here at SA.

Generally most doctor say it takes a wk maybe two to get over wd... that we know is a lie. We need all the doctors we can find who understand wd... you can always start with one who is a least open to believing wd exists and feed them with information from here till the learn... Alto will help you with what information to take to him.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Don't feel too bad, it will just take you a bit longer to recover than you had hoped. Some people recover quicker than others.

I'm at 2 years and 7 months off and I'm struggling with PSSD still.

So sorry to hear you still have no improvement. If it's any consolation, I'm not that much better either. I still have all the muscle twitches, brain zaps, shaking etc. All those crazy symptoms keep interchanging but they never really go away.

I think this is a test in patience. Seems like it will take at least a year or so. :(

But hey, even if it takes a year: There's still so many years after that, so it's worth holding on.

im coming to accept that feeling this way for so long after taking only 2 pills, this damage must be permanent.

I am going to have to find a way to go forward like this, and live my life as best I can.

Nope, I don't think it's permanent. You probably need to get used to living with it for now. Recovery may be so gradual that you don't notice getting better. But it's not permanent.

Every source I found said catastrophic, toxic reactions can last for months to years. But I've never read anyone saying they can be permanent.

But yep: Don't take these pills!!!!

akakoom I'm very sorry to hear there are no improvements for you but hey no improvements for me too...moreover I became anxious and more depressed. But I'm reading many stories on the web: as Laura said before no permanent damage, maybe some years to recover but not permanent condition. Just wondering akakoom: how are you going through every single day being anhedonic?

I'm in my bed or in my couch all the day long, surfing the web or talking with my brother or watching some tv programs. And I go for a walk 3/4 times a week. Can't do anything more. What about you?

March 2010/ October 2010:

Sereupin 30mg a day, EN 15 drops a day

October 2010/ 1st November 2014:

Cipralex 50mg a day (tapered to 40mg a day in August 2013), EN 15 drops a day (switched to Lexotan 15 drops a day in September 2014)

Started Risperdal 1mg a day on the 1st November 2014.

Stopped Risperdal on the 23 November 2014 because that day, after a short mental crysis, I suddenly lost all my emotions, desires, motivation and they not come back yet.

Stopped Cipralex C/T in December 2014.

Added, tapered and stopped other drugs during the following months (also a voluntary hospitalization in January 2015 for a suicide attempt)...no changes yet.

I'm med free from 3rd December 2015

Hang on guys, my heart breaks for you - it's so unfair to go through that, especially after only taking 2-3 pills. It's not your fault, it's some sh*tty luck. You will recover guys. I know it, you should believe it too.

I suffer from depression, anxiety, pure-o ocd, and panic attacks since 2004. Been on multiple different psychiatric drugs since 2006. Never had a significant WD problem before, only brain zaps for a month and then I'd be fine...............Been on Cipralex (escitalopram) 15 mg and Fluanxol (flupentixol) 1 mg since Sep 2014. Stopped taking the Cipralex after a fast 20-day taper.Took the last 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 5th, 2015. Then took Seroxat (paroxetine) 10 mg for a week, and stopped it too. Severe WD started suddenly on Feb 16th. RI 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 18th, 2015. RI worked and was relatively stable for a while................April 7 - decreased Fluanxol from 1 mg to 0.5 mg and took it at this dose for a week. - BIG MISTAKE; April 13 - WD starts creeping in; April 14 - RI full dose of Fluanxol 1 mg => severe muscle twitching and jerking when trying to relax and fall asleep, overwhelming sense of doom, dread, terror, and horror, insomnia, hoping to stabilize.
Tried doing a 10% cut off Fluanxol in the end of May for a few days, but quickly updosed to full dose because the twitching returned.
Experiencing waves and windows in the following months.
Unsuccessful brief taper attempt of Fluanxol by 5% on November 1st. Symptoms hit the next day. Too scared to continue tapering, reinstate full dose.
Severe crash in November after stupidly trying a barbiturate on November 9th. Grave mistake. Sense of unshakable inescapable internal torture, like my soul is in hell being tortured, terror/horror/dread/doom (probably akathisia?) that gets especially bad when trying to relax and fall asleep, muscles twitch, jerk and move on their own, shaking, insomnia, can't eat, confusion, disorientation, brain not working normally. Never felt so bad in my entire life. Never experiment with other meds while in WD! Praying to God I stabilize and get back to my baseline.
December - things getting even worse.

January - unbearable suffering

Maybe there isn't a correlation between length of time on these drugs compared to length of time spent in withdrawal.  Maybe what were dealing with here is more of a reaction-type deal than it is withdrawal.  I was only on effexor for about 7 weeks and have now been experiencing all types of unnatural, awful sh** for almost 7 months. I had also come off celexa and paxil in the past with no issues but something was profoundly different when I stopped effexor.  It was even different while I was taking the effexor, it made me feel awful.  Basically, it seems reasonable to think that we may have had an immediate negative reaction to these drugs instead of dealing with withdrawing from them.

September-December 2012: 10mg Paxil and no long term W/D symptoms

July-August 2013: 10mg Celexa for anxiety-based(?) insomnia, no W/D symptoms

October-December 2014: 37.5 and then 75mg Effexor XR

December 18, 2014: Last dose of Effexor after ~ 3 week taper

thanks  for your support everybody...

right now at least i can keep up with my job, and am keeping up with my social relationships.  my job isn't too challenging intellectually, so i can keep up by falling back on skills i had before the meds.  as for social, i can "act" normal, and my friends have no idea i am going through this.  (no-one in my personal life has any idea what i am going through... only you people on the web, and i want it that way)  i don't really go out of my way to socialize tho.  i mostly just sit at home and watch youtube.  i only go out if invited... and since most of my friends are married with young kids, they don't have a lot of time for socializing either, so i am OK with just staying home and waiting to heal.  i hope everyone's right and these effects aren't permanent, but the waiting is pure hell!!

i wish the pill had killed me

1 pill cost me my future

i cant live like this

anhedonia / pssd is a living hell

i wonder if the pharma companies ever look at this forum to see what misery they have caused

March 5, 6  2015 1 10mg Paxil each day - only 2 pills total - experienced huge tingle in my head on first pill

numbness in my hands and feet, skin less sensitive over all... not ticklish anymore

I have wished this many times as well. I can so understand your pain. For me it's the same. My life, my career and everything that was important to me destroyed. And nobody will even acknowledge it.

Doctors play dumb and blame it all on me.

We don't have a choice but to keep going as best we can.

September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating.

sorry to hear you have lost so much.  your courage and strength in facing this challenge is really impressive.  i don't know what i am going to do if a year from now i'm not at least somewhat improved.  i feel so alone.  i don't have anyone in my life... no shoulder to cry on... this is the only life i'll ever have, and it's come to this.  i feel sick and desperate

I know dear, it's so frustrating. Those bastard doctors and their poisons... I hope they burn in hell for the misery they're causing to good and decent people like all of us. I personally believe in reincarnation and I think a soul has many many lives in different planes of existence, but that's just my belief. I know how hard it is for you - it's torture for me too. Let's hang on together and we'll see better days. I've read many stories of healing from anhedonia and pssd and I know your story will be a successful one too. But you have to wait dear, healing won't happen overnight. I'm praying for relief for you and for everyone else on this site. God bless you

Going through this alone must be hell! I can't even imagine how to do that. Although although these drugs mess with your connection to people too. I think they erased part of my humanity and about my caring for others.

It's awful! But we have to hold on... and once we're better we have to fight so these horrible poisons get banned.

Ive noticed over the last week or so that my head still feels cloudy, but I've been getting mild headaches a lot now.  not incapacitating, just a mild ache in the background.  I normally would hardly ever get headaches before this.  and my limbs have been aching more than normal.quite uncomfortable.  hopefully any change is a sign of progress

So sorry to hear you're still bad! I wish there was anything I could suggest. But nothing helps. I'm the same. Not much improvement. A little bit of up and down, but that's it.

These toxic pills... it's awful how they can be even legal.

Hi Akakoom,

I am with you for your frustration, anger and suffering!

It's so heartbreaking we are all so severely damaged by these drugs! Your case a showcase of how incredibly dangerous these poisons are! Can't believe the FDA is not doing anything to stop taking more ppls lives after many years!

It scares the long time users how much more suffering and how long it will take to heal.

I believe you will recover soon.
