Hi Leahy ,

Try rehydrating through food , not water .  Water rich fruits and vegetables   !!   Much more efficient . Goes straight to the cells .

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Good advice, AliG. I will focus on getting water from foods. That makes a lot of sense. I still have a headache today in spite of my efforts to hydrate.

I woke up at 11:45 PM with nausea and headache. So disturbing. I finally went back to sleep at 2 AM after many desperate attempts to ease the pain. Two aspirin, magnesium, taurine, melatonin, milk, sesame eziekiel bread with almond butter and xanax.

It's hangover today as usual.

Leahy ,

Have you tried cutting out gluten / and or dairy ?  Just a thought .  Gluten can be  " headache inducing " !

Thank you Ali. I usually do not eat dairy and avoid gluten. The past two days I've been trying to consume calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium so I had milk, sports drinks, almond butter, water etc. to "hydrate" after reading Fighting the Migraine. I'm not winning the fight.

I think my pdoc is right, I am making myself crazy with all that I do to get well. I would suspect I cut my dose but I weighed meticulously and made my own capsules...

I feel like I drank alcohol all night, slept poorly and have a wretched hangover. This happens when I am unable to sleep well and wake up in the middle of the night with headache and nausea. I know I am going to be miserable for the entire next day until better sleep comes again.

I have felt like this pretty much most days since last February. Like Hardy says "24/7"

I'm concerned about your use of Xanax and the tendency to look for all other explanations for your symptoms. For you xanax is still a part of the solution rather than a problem...

Hi leahy

I feel your pain but in a different way. I hope you get some sleep soon. Have you tried taking melatonin yet? I couldn't sleep for a little while then I took a low dose of prescription melatonin that seems to help me sleep. But yeah my problem at the moment is severe fatigue 24/7 so depressing I have much to do right now in life but being held back, I just hope this problem is being caused from my AD. Get well leahy I'm here for you.

Currently suffer extreme CFS, Lyme, adrenal fatigue, bad gut issues, reaction bad to mold basically etc home a lot. Can hardly walk all I get crash easily.
I’m currently on mirtizapine 1.7mg and Reboxetine 0.4mg. I did a cut on reboxetine on the 19/4/20 around 11%.
Also taking Ativan since January 2mg.

I found lots of ginger tea helps with nausea. I use like 3 tea bags when I drink it.

You're right, Hardy. I did feel better after drinking ginger tea with organic raw honey. I bag and some fresh ginger slices. I had two cups. I wish I had done that sooner. I do take melatonin but tonight I'm afraid too in case that was what caused the headache today. All my other dosing has been steady.

Bubbles, I do know xanax is a problem and not a solution. A problem of the same proportions as mirtazapine with basically the same wd symptoms. it's scary. I'm working on that also.

Hi leahy

I'm glad the tea helps you. Yeah the melatonin helps me sleep but I'm not sure at the same time if it's contributing to me feeling tired during the day I'm only on a small dose 0.65mg.

It's amazing to me that your doctor would be so ignorant of what a 10 year antidepressant history would do to a person's system.

For some reason this point in your wd is a sticking point and your body seems to be saying that.  I wish I had the answer to your headache and sleep issue.

I just know that Remeron wd can cause rebound insomnia, which I know does not help you when you are experiencing it. I may sound like a broken record but if you are open to acupuncture, it could be very helpful.  And speaking of acupuncturist-I had one years ago who told me that when I had a headache, to soak my feet in warm water because in doing so, it pulls the energy from the head to the feet.   I have tried it and she was right.

You are doing everything possible to feel better Leahy.  You are exploring and researching all your options.

I think you are an amazing person who is digging deep to stay strong.   Hang in there, you deserve a healthy mind and body and will get there.

I made a cut to 20 mg remeron 8 days ago and surprisingly it's going well. I'm spreading out my xanax doses. I find myself able to fall asleep, wake up but be actually be able to fall asleep again. I haven't had a headache at all.

I have added Bach's Rescue Remedy to my routine hoping it will help me control those ruminating thoughts that torment me when I try to sleep. It may be a placebo effect but I'll take it even if I just THINK it helps.

My reading of all your threads has helped me so much. In particular, yesterday while looking for countertops, I almost burst into tears talking to the saleswoman. I was saying it's hard to pick these things alone and how great it was she had her husband. Egads! If I had let myself go, I would have been sobbing uncontrollably in the granite store.

Nueroemotions. Nueroemotions. Not real. Not real. DO NOT CRY IN STORES.

I feel the difference with this cut. I am dreaming at night for the first time in decades. My emotions are raw. I feel very sad, alone, fat and hopeless most of the time. But I am so relieved by the lessening of physical symptoms.

Hi Terry,

Nice to meet you. Whew! When I read you dropped from 30 to 15 I was worried. Although, my pdoc can't understand why I am taking so long. Idiot that she is, poor thing. She would have had me dropping by half each time. I went through hell in the beginning listening to the "doctor" instead of people who are knowledgeable.

Good luck on your taper. Holding is hard work. So is making tiny cuts. But going slowly is the key to getting your health and your life back.

Leahy, thank you so much for stopping by my thread. Been trying to look through yours, and the thing that really stands out in my mind is that the attitude of your doctor must be extremely difficult to deal with. I congratulate you for continuing on with your slow taper. I'm sure it will pay off in the long run!!

Best wishes!!

Zoloft 100 mg. daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since Oct. 1994 / Synthroid 88 mcg. daily / Supplements: Neptune Krill Oil-1,000 mg. twice daily/Astaxanthin 10 mg. twice daily/Ubiquinol 100 mg. twice daily (These 3 have allowed me to discontinue (approved by doctor) bp meds I was on. Calcium Citrate 500 mg. daily/Vitamin D3 2,400 iu daily/K2 (MK7) 100 mcg daily (osteopenia and fam. hist. of severe osteoporosis). Stress B Complex (1/2 dose)/Quercetin (for allergies/asthma)/Magnesium (400 mg. oral glycinate and about 50 mg. magnesium chloride spray oil a day, divided throughout day).

Tapered Zoloft about 6 wks. Totally off since the end of July (25-29, 2014). 3 wks. vertigo at end of taper, then 3-4 wks. OK, followed by withdrawal symptoms increasing in severity (nausea, gastric disturbances, loss of appetite, insomnia, restlessness, jitters, anxiety, agitation--jumping out of my skin--possible akathisia?) Seem to have paradoxical reactions to everything new, even Vitamin C. Severity of akathisia comes and goes, but is constant to some degree. Hard to leave house, and cannot be home alone. (Retired)

Thanks for stopping by. It's good to have company. Interesting perspective on my thread. Yes, Luv2, some doctors are difficult to deal with, insensitive, and highly invested in their prescription pad! Now she's pushing for me to take Prozac. Did you see that? She says:

"It's mild. We give Prozac to 7 year olds."

That is criminal and should be punishable by law. There are my feelings about it.

SEROTONIN AND MUSCLES: Serotonin was originally given its name due to its ability to constrict blood vessels. In the 50’s injections of serotonin were given to women to induce labor. Serotonin constricts muscles leading to muscle damage. When you attempt to use a constricted muscle it rips and tears.

I appreciate you posting this Leahy. While tapering, I developed plantar fasciitis, which some now believe to be tears and not inflammation in the fascia. It was brutally painful for a very long time. My doctor at the time always insisted it was my running shoes, which I'd purchased a  few months before..I never believed that. The pain in my back and ribs has the same kind of quality to it (by the way, there are many nerves in the layer of fascia, which makes those tears hurt like heck. Fascia also surrounds each muscle, bone, nerve, and organ of the body).

Things that proved helpful to me for the foot were ice, stretching, cold laser treatment through a physiotherapist, and eventually traumeel (homeopathic arnica cream). I hope you're able to find some things that help you...

Remeron for depression. Started at 7.5 mg. in 2005. Gradual increases over 8 years, up to 45 mg. in 2012.Began tapering in June 2013. Went from 45 to 30 mg in the first 3-4 months. Held for a couple of months.Started tapering by 3.75 mg every month or 2, with some longer holding periods. Eventually went down to 3.75 mg. about April 2014. Stopped taking Remeron August 2014. Developed issues with histamine a week after stopping--symptoms reduced through diet and a few supplements. Currently having issues with a few foods. Most of the histamine intolerance has resolved or is at least, in remission.

Current Medications:

Current Supplements: Cannabis (CBD and THC), Vitamin C, D, Quercetin, CoQ10, Tart Cherry, Probiotic, Phytoplankton oil, magnesium, Methyl B. What has helped me most: spending time in nature, qi gong, exercise, healthy diet, meditation, IV vitamins, homeopathy, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, music, and cuddling my cats..

Hey Leahy, I too have felt so stiff, maybe different from yours and I'm sorry you are limping around.   I have to share that every night, after I take my Remeron, my legs have ached.   I have a pair of compression stockings to help or else I toss and turn.  It has gotten better as my dose has lowered but sometimes I wear the stockings during the day.

Your body will heal and emerge from this.

I'm glad I have heard many of you write about crying. I had to bring a damaged cabinet door back to be repaired. I had called the son of the place and he said he would talk to his father. That was three days ago so I went to drop off the damaged door.

The owner was shocked. His son hadn't told him about the door. OMG! A huge fight broke out between father and son. Tears filled my eyes from way down deep. It was all I could do to keep myself together and not burst into tears.

I'm having a tough time stabilizing at Remeron 18 mg. It's so tricky how wd takes days to fully manifest itself. This sucks.

Thanks to all of you for being there, writing your stories. You've helped me to know that crying isn't always real crying.

Hi Leahy,

I hope you are feeling better today.   I have cried quite a bit coming down on Remeron and at other times I feel so irritated.   I feel super sensitive-noise, lights, and of course high emotions.

As Ali said, it is neuro-emotions and you will move through them.   You are doing great and have come so far and just need to stabilize a bit more.

I know you will make it.

Thank you, Hibari. I guess I need to stabilize on 18 mg. I feel so sick - headache/nausea. I woke up at 1:30 AM with this. I took dramamine at 2:30 AM and put sleep hypnosis on. This is a never ending saga rendering me non functional.

Today I feel hungover - headache/nausea that gets worse as the day goes on. I'm so tired of feeling sick. I am not going to updose again. I'm riding this one out.

I made a date to meet a friend at 4:30. I just texted and canceled. Disappointing. I hate being THAT person who cancels things. But I know I'm going to feel worse as the day goes on. I am super sensitive to noise and lights, also.

Isn't this the craziest situation to be in ever? Who would think? You do what the doctors say and you get screwed big time.

It is totally crazy.

You will have many more days to meet with friends but right now you need a lot of extra care.

Let yourself stabilize, it will happen because it's happened before.

You are doing the best that you can right now and that's enough.

Hi leahy--  nausea is a total pain, I had it for a  while about the mid point of my taper, luckily it did clear up after a while.  I found acupressure to be very helpful, do a google on "pressure points for nausea" and you'll find some really good instructions.

Hope you feel better soon.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Thanks, Brassmonkey, I'll look into acupressure for nausea. And Hibari, your advice is right on target as always. Today i have only a headache so hopefully things are improving.

I amconsistently waking up at 1:30 AM like it's morning and time to get up. I stay awake for a couple of hours trying everything I can to get back to sleep. It's very clear to me there is a direct link between sleep issues and headache/nausea. I wish I could figure out what is causing this sleep disturbance...

Hi Leahy.  Withdrawal insomnia and other sleep issues are very common in withdrawal. I only sleep 2 / 3  times a week for a few hours at most. It can be debilitating,  but I refuse to give in and take drugs.  I know you get headaches, which makes it hard , but have you ever thought you might suffer from sleep aponea ?  This can be a result of the drugs , as well . ( in my opinion ) .  It might be worth looking at, as It can cause headaches and fatigue, the next day .  Obviously, so can withdrawal , but it might just be an added factor on top of everything else.  Just a thought.   Maybe worth checking out, even if it's just a case of ruling it it out, as a cause .

I think you may be on to something AliG. Maybe I do have sleep apnea. I honestly haven't come across another person describing the headaches like I have. Makes me wonder...

I have had sleep issues in the past.Part of what led up to being put on meds was I was having hynagogic hallucinations. They were weird and very real. I would be calling Mommy, mommy, mommy in a little girl's voice, distressed, and wake having a panic attack, etc, etc. My mother died when I was six. I was seeing her in these hallucinations. It was disturbing to me and frightening to my family My voice would escalate which would eventually wake me up. It wasn't my voice. Then I felt that I was dying, choking, couldn't breathe.

I completely 100% believed I had an imbalance due to trauma. It made sense to me at the time. Now i have a constant headache, thanks to remeron/mirtazapine. I do not hallucinate anymore. I think I'd trade the hallucinations for this sickness I have now in withdrawal.

These doctors and drug companies and their sales people need to be sued for destroying innocent people's lives.

Leahy, I have always had some gasping and choking issues during sleep but since medication, it had gotten much worse.

Antidepressants cause dry mouth and that can be disruptive for sleep.  I also kept waking my husband up when I would bolt right up in bed because of choking.  (I also think some of it's anxiety and stress from this process).

Anyway, I have now started using a dry mouth toothpaste and oral rinse(Biotene) at night along with a moisture throat spray.   It has helped quite a bit and I will probably continue once I am off the meds to see if it gets even better.  There are different brands but that's the one I use.

This might not be the issue for you but I wanted to pass it on.

I hope you are doing okay at 18mgs.  I am steady so far on 10.40

Good tip, Hibari. Thank you. The dryness makes sense to me. Good detective work. My eyes have been dry for years. I just went for an eye check up and my eye moisture increased from a ZERO to a FIVE. Ten is normal but I'll take the progress. I bet dry eye contributes to my headache. I wake up with eye pain and my eyes lids are all stuck on my eyes. I use saline drops and keep them by my bed.

I had no idea toothpaste and rinse and spray moisture was available for your mouth and throat. That is awesome news. Thanks for passing this information on.

Today is the first day of feeling "better" on 18 mg. Halleujah for that one! I think it is the Ashwaghanda tea that helped me sleep better last night. I hope I can do that two nights in a row. I'll feel like SuperWoman. Well that and hopefully stabilizing on 18 mg.

10.40 and things are looking up. I'm so happy to hear that.

I have tapered down to 10 mg of Remeron and 1 mg of xanax at the insistence of my pdoc. She's an idiot. I do know that. But I thought I'd try.

Strangely I have had better success with this drop. I am sleeping well for a change. I don't want to rock the boat but it is perplexing to me that I feel better.

I have been trying to think what could be different. The only thing I can pinpoint is my recent consumption of coconut oil. Whether or not this is truly the helpful piece, I do not know.

But I'm not interested in changing anything while I am able to cut and sleep at the same time. I take 3 tablespoons full of extra virgin organic coconut oil I bought at BJs for around $10.00 for a 1.125 quart size. I am able to fast intermittently which I have not been able to do while on mirt. I am also losing weight.

I'll take it.

Hi Leahy .  That's interesting . I'm not sure about coconut oil . On paper, it looks great !  however, I'm not convinced . My cholesterol jumped to " epic proportions " after a stint on EVCO. ( extra virgin coconut oil ) .  Not sure yet .  Be careful .  Get your blood checked .  3 tbsb's is " huge " . It might work for you , but keep track . At the end of the day , it is a " saturated fat " .  Caution is needed , in  my opinion . How is your cholesterol ?
