Thanks frustrated. My wife is not here right now. She is my rock and voice of reason. I do get these very small windows, I guess they might be Windows right before I fall asleep (about 20 minutes). The brain/memory fog and vertigo are still there but the anxiety is lessened and I feel a little bit calmer. It does not happen every night but it makes me dread the days and long for bed time. I guess I can be thankful for that.

Shelby, I'm in the thick of it too. Feel just like you do and am in the same time off drugs as you. Been suffering horribly the past two months. Barely hanging onto my sanity every flucking day. Let's hope next month will be better.

January 2012 - Prescribed 900mg gabapentin and 30mg Norco for lower lumber spinal stenosis pain.

September 2013 - Spinal fusion surgery, 6 levels. Hospital ramped up meds 1500mg gabapentin, 100mg Norco, 80mg Oxycontin, 25mg Fentanyl patch.

January 2014 - Sever nausea daily and with back pain every 4 hours. 2 trips to ER. First endoscopy found ulcer. Treated with Sucralfate and PPI. Second endo in May found no ulcers. Doctors said it was the opiates causing the nausea. CT'd Oxycontin, Fentanyl patch.

July 2014 - Lost 48 lbs. due to not eating because of severe nausea. GP prescribed Prozac 20mg and Ativan 2mg prn. Tried for 4 days, quit. Two week followup GP said keep taking Prozac. 4 days, quit again. Ativan taken rarely prn for anxiety and appetite.

August 2014 - Went to detox. Off opiates. Still nauseous, helmet head, drugged feeling. Doctor CT'd gabapentin. Ended up in ER. Found 2 gallstones. Gabapentin reinstated at 900mg. Tried botched up and down taper to get off Gabapentin. No tapering advice from doctor. Said to just CT again.

September 2014 - Coded on table during gallbladder surgery. Developed liver biloma due to CPR by doctor. Had bile bulb inserted for 2 wks to drain.

October 2014 - Gallbladder removed. Still nauseous, 3am cortisol surging, drugged helmet head, vertigo, breathlessness, whooshing head, heart palps.

November 8th, 2014 - CT'd gabapentin suggested by family and 4 different doctors. Was told no withdrawal is associated with gabapentin. Have been in hell ever since. No windows, just one big tsunami every day with same symptoms for 4 months.

December 26, 2014 - Found SA. At least I know I'm not insane. My family thinks I'm doing this to myself. Akathesia has become unbearable.

March 10, 2015 - In absolute daily hell with no relief. Currently taking magnesium 200mg before bedtime.

I know pug. Just don't want to be a statistic that people study 20 years from now in medical journals. We'll get there somehow. Let's keep breathing!

Hi Shelby

So sorry things are really bad for you. I sometimes get a little relief late at night too and am so grateful that for a moment or two things are OK.

There is always hope that tomorrow you will have a better day. For most of April I was in hell but something is changing this week and some of my symptoms are fading. They will be back for sure but for now I am grateful.

Thinking of you.

Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

I guess I over did it last weekend. So dizzy I cannot stand or sit up for long. Brain fog and DR are really thick. Loosing concepts and word associations and I'm so depressed and fatigued that all I want to do is sleep but scared to do so because of waking anixety. I'm in a deep deep pit. Please I need reassurance. I'm going to try and walk with my wife later... we'll see how it goes.

There are going to be bad and good times with seemingly nothing to trigger them... it may turn out to be food some of the time... just know it will come and go and be as content and peaceful as you can be while living through both.

After a time it becomes kind of expected to take a turn never welcomed but it stops hitting as hard after you accept this is how life is now... the less upset you get about it the less of a swing your brain chemistry will take the better it is for you wd process. It is all connected the more peace you can bring into your life the more healing will follow. It will still take time there is not other way out than through it none that I know at least.  If I knew I would be telling everyone that you can count on. I hope your walk with your wife goes well and I wish you peace.

I hope you try some deep relaxation videos they have on utube they have helped me a lot.

wishing you peace

Did get better for you? Maybe not 100%, but better? I mean last week i could make simple food (scrambled eggs) and now its a struggle getting dressed or even eating. I did go for a walk today but it was like walking in a fun house where the floors move on you.

I had a reaction to dental freezing while in wd and  I recall the side walk being off I was always walking to the left and would have to come back to center...but that was quite far into it all.... . early days in wd I had one foot that was dragging I would stumble all the time.... I still walked most of the time as I could not sit still and walking became what I would do for anything all things... it became a time out for me a quiet time to sort thru my thoughts if I had any sometimes I had none....  a sudden fatigue came later at one point I had to give it up for awhile... but when I could I walked.

I have broke my one foot twice since I started wd... I had to give up walking then too of course and I found all other things got worse.

Other than fatigue and car accident and breaking my foot... I walked.  I highly recommend it.  Since I hurt my back in the car accident I don't walk but maybe it should give it a try again is has always been what helped me.

If you can walk walk. It does help. Yes I am better then when it started... I swear for 3 months I was in bed with the flu then kind of up and down for 3 months then I could not sit still ... that is when I started walking.

most people get well some get mostly well some we don't know why don't completely heal... I wish I knew... all the answers but I don't.

The fact that you were better last wk is a really good sign that healing is happening don't be tricked by windows into believing your going to keep the gains you make as it that is a slippery slope for a good time in the beginning... just take each day as it comes and don't expect too much as that is best cause wd has a mind of its own it for now it is boss.

peace

I'm sorry Shelby, it is not funny that you are suffering but your post made me snort my tea laughing! I imagined you in bandages like a mummy swaying round the shops holding on to things so you don't fall over  . Please don't be offended, I have been through that stage where the ground moves and the room spins for weeks now and it is easing up. The room only spins when I stand up or turn over in bed then settles quickly. I hope it eases up for you too because it is a nasty feeling!  You did well to go for a walk and cook eggs, simple things but they are big steps forward. Embrace the little things that you can do, and be proud of yourself for doing them, however small.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor.

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

Yes, Shelby, I don't think anything unusual is happening to you, given your history. Effexor, activating as it is, is such a poor choice for benzo WD. Because what is happening to you is so much what could be expected, I also expect you will fully recover one day. You might especially check out the magnesium and fish oil threads.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Effexor was out of desparation from the benzo withdrawal. The doctor "hated to see me suffering" so he started me on effexor. He wanted to taper me over 1 month from 75mg. I took four months dropping about every three weeks. I jumped at 12.5mg. Too fast i know but i figured it would not be as bad as benzo w/d. Guess i was wrong. The worst hit at about month 5 (in March). Been in this nasty wave since.

Shelby, I'm so sorry you're suffering like this. I know you're scared. We're all frightened out of our minds, especially when things get worse or new symptoms appear. This will all be over one day and in our rear view mirrors. Hang on, Shelby. Praying for you. Pug

If you have epson salts in your house put some in the tub and have a bath in it may help you body some.

About the Mummy thing... I have been staying away from here in an attempt to not be so down... and that cracked me up... lol it just did... thank you..maybe I need to be here where people get me a little at least life is very weird some times not at all what I was lead to expect from life... not even close and I have nothing to go on in what comes next or any sort of reference when I leave this site and stay in the world it seems like I was dropped here from another planet. How is that for odd... not clicks just now guessing it will pass hoping... but then I come and read something like you wrote and bam right back to fitting in.

So there you go... we each have our reasons... to be here I guess.

As for the lack of understanding and sympathy yes I said sympathy cause really  ... all disorders and disease has a understanding with it... people come and help and sort things out that make no sense ... agencies run telethons and everyone think that poor bugger got a raw deal... and people thing differently of you if your afflicted with a bad lot of luck... but should you be

STUCK for 7 years like me .. here well even the nicest of people start to talk and wonder and people give up on you and say horrid things... it really is bad some days.

I am not saying you will be stuck... surely not as long as me... but I get the sympathy thing ... as an unacknowledged what do I call it... affliction... disorder... what... we don't know what to call it...

whatever it is it sucks and has no name and is not defined by the real world only people here and a smattering of folks who do withdrawal/reactions for a living or write books about it for a living... even know what we are talking about...

we are afflictioned anonymous

or afflicted unbelievable

or the ghosts that haunt pharma

or .. hell you pick... I am of patients another reason I am not here much lately very low on patients and high on irritable...

Thanks for the laugh hope the epson salt bath helps wishing you peace

I would think any further drugging would be a poor choice for benzo wd...but that is what really dose happen it happened to me repeatedly for simple reasons doctors do not understand what is going on surely they are not purposely trying to addict us and keep us drugged endlessly ... are they?  As I was writing that the are they came to mind in a really odd way...and I wondered how many doctors have shares in pharma... I know that was a very evil thought... best to forget about it...

Hello Shelby, do what is best for your well being even if that means to stay away from SA. I think a break is always needed to not over think about wd that may aggravate symptoms. I think I need one too but it's so hard for me. Wishing you well..

Celexa free 12/2013

Took benadryl last night. Bad decision. ..

I had to take it last wk for hives .... took a lot more than I ever thought i would be able to tolerate at the time I just slept a lot but I have been messed up ever since.  It always had a rebound reaction for me when I was in early to mid wd ... I took it 1/3 of a pill to sleep about 3 times after not sleeping for 3-4 days... but I know it presents a bill after I felt it set my wd process back.

when it was early in I could feel every little change ...now I have to take a gut full of the stuff and suffer for weaks after I guess...

Seems to be the same sort of thing just on a larger bigger scale...

Not a fan of it by any means... don't recommend it for wd sleep if your going to do go as small as you can in dose...

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
I have been doing the same thing Shelby. SA is both a blessing and a curse in my opinion. A blessing because we get support here and can openly vent about our horrific symptoms. A curse because we constantly read how this can last years, people suffering 3 years out etc. and I know for me personally there are things I've read on here that have dramatically impeded my healing at times. We need to try and push through this hell and keep as much of a normal life as possible or else we feel even more alien. You're gonna make it, keep your head up friend

I actually get worse when I am away from SA .. go figure. This is the only place my life makes any sense at all I don't have much interest is anything else.  I guess drugs have been playing a huge part of my life most of my life I don't think it odd it remains the same... now after all that time spent on them already

Coming here often or too often I find can be fixed by just never leaving... :)

Yes that is joke and it is good to take breaks and build on living ... checking sites like this in wd can be stress inducing.

Have a nice break I wish you peace...
