So I have been diagnosed with conversion disorder. Something about how my anxiety is sooo bad that it creates all of these symptoms. I'm now on 50mg of zoloft and things are not much better. I have an appt with a psych in about 3 weeks and i'm sure they are going to want to increase my dosage. <sigh>

I'm just so tired of all this...

Shelby - I read your thread - my symptoms were spot on exactly everything you wrote- my wd was late and it hit hard- I reinstated to my original dosage and the wd effects continued in waves over the next four months - I realized I was not stabilizing on that so I increased my dosage - that was a little over 2 mos ago - I am just now feeling some stability - i literally had ever single thing you wrote down to the fact that I felt also better in the evening- I appreciate you posting all of your symptoms as I was having difficulty explaining wha to was feeling- I just knew I wanted to feel like myself again- I wish you some good windows and feel a bit of a kindred connection with you as my wd was also almost exclusively mental like yours - and I was in fear every single day like you for over 2 months but your brain will heal- mine is starting to- I also had to teach classes feeling like that, I didn't have a choice, I sweated the whole time I did it, but I got through it and i did it - so even when you think you can't do anything anymore , remember how strong and brave you really are, even when you feel like you can't walk around the block, do it- it's good for you to do small little things like that - sitting home and waiting to get better will only make you focus more on your symptoms - I like what you said about bandaging your head and telling people you have brain damage - I wake up and tell myself everyday now, this has to be what brain damaged people feel like and if they can heal over time so can we- please keep posting and updating - God speed xo

*Currently at 8.2-8.5 mg of my 10mg pill of Paxil (they actually weigh 12.5mg)

january 2023 I began reducing my med again. I was a 9mg weight for years, I went to 8.9 in January, went to 8.6mg in February, and in March 2023 I went down to 8.5-8.2 mg ( my scale varies, so I stick within that .3 range because of that)

Thanks Von,

My wife is gone today, she is my rock. I'm sitting here shaking. I get these brief what I call "sparks", not windows, because they don't last too long. Just a couple of minutes, but I'll take 'em.

I pray things continue to get better for you also.

The diagnosis of "conversion disorder" is very frequently applied to those who complain of withdrawal syndrome. That is a psychiatrist who does not understand or possibly does not even know about withdrawal syndrome.

It's up to you how you want to deal with this doctor, but I would take everything he or she says with a grain of salt.

Reinstatement of Effexor might have been more helpful than Zoloft.

Alto,

I thought about effexor, but it made my BP too high and my dreams were horrible. I have been doing things around the house and I drove for 2 hours yesterday. It was hard as "you know what" but I did it. I've been on 50mg for 2 weeks now and I get little "sparks" of confidence and peace.

Hey Shelby,

I hope you start to feel better soon. If you ever decide to stop taking Zoloft, here are some threads to read first:

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

Tips for tapering off Zoloft (sertraline)

What is withdrawal syndrome?

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Hi shelby,

I hope in time that you become more stable on your new med. Best of luck to you.

I suffer from depression, anxiety, pure-o ocd, and panic attacks since 2004. Been on multiple different psychiatric drugs since 2006. Never had a significant WD problem before, only brain zaps for a month and then I'd be fine...............Been on Cipralex (escitalopram) 15 mg and Fluanxol (flupentixol) 1 mg since Sep 2014. Stopped taking the Cipralex after a fast 20-day taper.Took the last 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 5th, 2015. Then took Seroxat (paroxetine) 10 mg for a week, and stopped it too. Severe WD started suddenly on Feb 16th. RI 5 mg Cipralex on Feb 18th, 2015. RI worked and was relatively stable for a while................April 7 - decreased Fluanxol from 1 mg to 0.5 mg and took it at this dose for a week. - BIG MISTAKE; April 13 - WD starts creeping in; April 14 - RI full dose of Fluanxol 1 mg => severe muscle twitching and jerking when trying to relax and fall asleep, overwhelming sense of doom, dread, terror, and horror, insomnia, hoping to stabilize.
Tried doing a 10% cut off Fluanxol in the end of May for a few days, but quickly updosed to full dose because the twitching returned.
Experiencing waves and windows in the following months.
Unsuccessful brief taper attempt of Fluanxol by 5% on November 1st. Symptoms hit the next day. Too scared to continue tapering, reinstate full dose.
Severe crash in November after stupidly trying a barbiturate on November 9th. Grave mistake. Sense of unshakable inescapable internal torture, like my soul is in hell being tortured, terror/horror/dread/doom (probably akathisia?) that gets especially bad when trying to relax and fall asleep, muscles twitch, jerk and move on their own, shaking, insomnia, can't eat, confusion, disorientation, brain not working normally. Never felt so bad in my entire life. Never experiment with other meds while in WD! Praying to God I stabilize and get back to my baseline.
December - things getting even worse.

January - unbearable suffering

I wish I could say it has stabalized me... I did better 2 weeks ago. I was driving, went to the movies with my wife and kids, went to the store several times. I mowed the front and back yards and fixed our broken AC, and this week my drama queen sister-in-law came to town. We had a big blow up between her kids and our kids and my wife and her are not talking. She has convinced my older son that we are horrible parents and that I am a weak father that is doing all of this for attention. She told him that he could go live with her if he really wanted. OMGsh I can't take this anymore. My thoughts are very muddled, memory has gotten worse and I feel very scatter-brained. I feel very fatigued and have muscle pains all over like the flu...

I don't know if i'm stabalizing up and down on the Zoloft, if the drama from this week made things worse or if i'm ever going to heal.

I made the decision to go on Zoloft because I wanted to stabalize and then taper properly later on... I really hate this crap. I want to be a good father and husband and all I seem to be is a body in a bed...again!

Wow! It never ceases to amaze me why some people are completely incapable of compassion or sympathy. They just seem to thrive on drama and sticking their noses into places they do not belong. I am sorry you had to deal with that. Try not to beat yourself up or listen to the unwanted drama and opinions of others. You are doing the best you can in a very situation. Keep on fighting. I wish you peace and speedy healing.

That's terrible! Yes, your doing the best you can, Shelby. If you were not a good father or husband, you just wouldn't care about these comments, but you do.

Much healing to you and peace to your family,

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

The drama is over. I find that I can only very little amounts of stress and drama before the symptoms are triggered.

But on the bright side, I had two very good days this week and then I over did it I think. The Symptoms came back yesterday, heavy lethargy, brain fog and DR. I'm trying to let my body stabalize and heal. After you have been sick for a while people don't understand windows and waves and when you have a window they think you are "healed and ready to go".

I must remember, one day at time.

Hi Shelby, I've just come in on the end of your thread, but wanted to say "Hi",  and I think that you're doing "awesomely well", given what you have been dealing with.   It;s rough, for sure, but you are going to get there.    You are right,  .... one day at a time.   :)

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

  • 1 month later...

Visited a new Psych today... She suggested that I start wellbutrin (75mg) on top of 50mg of zoloft, but she said it was my decision. She is really a good psych because she listens and understands what I have been through. She also said she would not push anything on me and would act as more of a guide in my healing. She agrees that CBT is the long term solution.

I guess I'm really nervous about starting another drug as most people on here understand. I just want to stabilize, try to heal, and then try tapering (the correct way) later on...

What do you guys think?

I would stick to the Zoloft until you are stabilized fully!

Changing drugs is going to further disturb things.

In August you said, that you had a few good days. Have you had any good days since?

I am not a doctor, this is just my opinion.

Good luck

April 2014 remeron 45mg.

June 2014 abilify 2.5 remeron wasn't working so abilify was then added
