Giagirl: Tapering off Lamictal

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am new here and just started my taper 2 weeks ago with lamtical. I am wondering if any of you who tapered from lamictal could share with me what there withdrawals were like. There are so many variables in life so its hard for me to discern what is causing my guilty, irritable feelings. Its been 100% humidity and hot and I have no ac in the car so it could be that. I haven't noticed any physical withdrawals but I have a melancholy, sort of anxious burning in my belly and like I said guilt and remorse. Just wondering...

Hello, I've been on anti-depressants for 25 years since I was 19. I took Prozac, Zoloft, paxil, celexa, Effexor and klonopin. Right now I am taking-

Wellbutrin 225mg

Cymbalta 120 mg

Lamictal 300mg

I am starting a slow taper off of Cymbalta after I have 30 days off of pain medicines.

My dream is to one day be drug free even if it takes years

Welcome Giagirl,

Those feelings could be withdrawal, or related to the heat. How have you been tapering Lamictal? We recommend 10% reductions.

It would be great if you would add some dates to your signature so we know how long you have been taking each drug and when your taper started. Also, please briefly add mention of your previous drug history with approximate dates, this helps members understand your situation when reading your posts.

I had absolutely no withdrawal from lamictal and I've been on it twice. It was like taking a sugar pill though, that may have been something to do with it.

As requested. In the last 3 years to the best of my recollection I first dropped the max dose of Lamictal. Yes I just stopped it was doing absolutely nothing. Then I dropped Lexapro, that was even easier I had been on and off that a dozen times before. There were at least 2 odd off label attempts at anxiety that I won’t be able to remember. Then there was sweet/evil Seroquel. That was the last to go it’s been around 16 months.

Lithium, Prozac, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Celexa, Lamictal, Lexapro, Luvox, Viibryd, Brintellix, Pristiq, Zoloft, Seroquel, Zyprexa, Geodon, Abilify, Latuda, Ritalin, Adderall, Valium, Clonazepam, Alprazolam, Propanalol, Spravato

I am on 300mg and have been around 15 years. It was so scary today that I took my usual dose. I'm going to just taper 25mg every other day for now. Anxiety, anger, irritability, remorse, blue...too much for me to handle :(

Did the medicine do anything positive for you when you were on a full dose, Gia?

I felt a lot better with the full dose. I have side affects from my ssri's but they were too difficult to taper but I was trying to taper too much. I can deal with my side affects and I have some bad ones...stuttering, tremors, muscle jerks, vision impairment. The reason I want to get off meds is because I feel like God has something better for me. I don't even know what I'm really like because I have been on meds so long. 25 years of ssri's 15 years of lamictal. I am going to have to go super slow because I am a single mom and I have to keep moving. My depression has taken every ounce of energy from me in the past and I couldn't take care of myself. I thought about going inpatient for 28 days and get a jump start with supervision but away from home where I can just lay  and cry....my coping skills! haha Thanks everyone for the info and welcomes xx

Oh my gosh! Thank you, thank you, thank you Petunia for the information. It is like a miracle for me. There was a red warning alert on the drug interaction guide with Cymbalta and wellbutrin and I take high doses too. I have decided to do a very slow taper off of Cymbalta counting the beads but I am waiting until I have 30 days off of pain medicine first. Thanks again. :D
