 I usually take about .75 or 1 mg once a day of the xanax during the last few hours I'm up.

 

If you are only taking xanax once, in the evening, this could be causing rebound, interdose withdrawal symptoms during the day. Xanax is a short acting benzo. When there is no longer any left in your system in the morning, you may be going into xanax withdrawal, this can happen more easily in a nervous system already sensitized by withdrawal.

 

Your doctor is correct in that you shouldn't just stop taking it, this needs to be carefully tapered too, in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms. But for now, I think you need to get it stabilized in your blood through the day.

Could the restructuring going on in my brain cause me problems with the Percocet?  Should I try to keep smaller doses in my system through the day, like only half a pill if I need it?  I usually don't feel any withdrawal from this med.

 

I woke up today at 11:30am after 8 hours sleep, could only stay awake half an hour, and slept again from 12pm to 3pm.  These meds usually don't make me drowsy or need to sleep more, or give me trouble thinking or brain fog.  this has all just started with the withdrawal crash.

 

But could these meds now be making that a bit worse?  Why do I need to be sleeping 12-14 hours a day all of a sudden just the past week?  Does the "too fast" a withdrawal from the depressants do this?

  Since my last post the doctor called with more blood work results and apparently the Synthroid I take for the Cancer was practically not in my system whatsoever. Basically I'm HYPOTHYROID at the present time. He thinks taking it at the same time as the Liquid Paxil and Wellbutrin may have been causing the Synthroid to not be being absorbed in my system.  He gave me new guidelines on timing the Synthroid away from the others and up'd the Synthroid dose temporarily.  Since they had to remove my thyroid completely from the Cancers, the Synthroid is the only way I can get that hormone.  

 

The symptoms that I've been having and getting worse recently; tiredness, poor concentration, and abnormal sensation are all related to this.  It doesn't explain the increased Anxiety but the sleeping 14 hours a day and the trouble thinking and the weird sensory issues are really what have been upsetting me.  Finding out they are all likely from my being Hypothyroid for some time, (considering as I said I didn't have these symptoms from the medications before), is a sigh of relief knowing I should be feeling better soon with getting the hormone adjusted.

 

Hypothryroid symptions: ABNORMAL SENSATION:  Paresthesia  is a sensation of tingling, tickling, pricking, or burning of a person's skin with no apparent long-term physical effect. The manifestation of a paresthesia may be transient or chronic.

It can take some time to get thyroid medication just right. If I were you, I would keep the psych drugs steady until the thyroid medication is resolved.

The doctor thinks I've been having seizures the past 6 weeks or so.  I fit the discription for: temporal lobe seizures.  However, alot of these symptoms do fit the withdrawal symptoms.  I had a brain MRI on tuesday and it came back normal.  Has anyone else had problems with epilepy coming off an SSRI?  I know it can happen going on.  It would be great to finally having a working diagnosis of why I've been feeling so rough.  I also have MONO again which doesn't help.

Simple partial seizures affect only those muscles or body parts controlled by the specific area of the brain where the seizure begins. 

 

Simple partial seizures:   These seizures can be sensory and psychic seizures that change how people think, feel, or experience things.

 

• These seizures change how people think, feel, or experience things.
• They may suddenly feel emotions like fear, depression, or happiness with no outside reason.
• Some may feel as though they are outside their body or may have feelings of déja vu ("I've been through this before") or jamais vu ("This is new to me"— even though the setting is really familiar).

sensory seizures:

• These cause changes in any one of the senses.
• People with sensory seizures may smell or taste things that aren't there;; or feel a sensation of "pins and needles" or numbness.
• They may have visual hallucinations, seeing things that aren't there (a spot of light, a scene with people). They also may experience distortions of true sensations. For instance, they may believe that a parked car is moving farther away, or that a person's voice is muffled when it's actually clear.

 

I go thru periods where I feel like I cant move, very tired, trouble thinking, tasting smells or numbers (senthesia).  Great wave of fear and anxiety.  Feel like I keep "just" then becoming conscious.

Now, I had petit mal seizures when I was younger, so, neurologically, I do have a weak point there. If I spent too much time under flouresent lighting I would forget where I was and have trouble thinking.  So I'm wondering if being on the Paxil for over 20 years, and dosing down as I did from 25 cr to 10 liquid EITHER gave me neuological damage, and these are seizures I'm having since my brain is disabled from working by itself after 20 years of meds,, or if it's still withdrawal symptoms masking as seizures... or both.  

 

And if you have come across anyone else having similar situation here at the website.  Things like synthesia and parensia are listed under ssri withdrawal but im wondering if people experiencing these things were having these type of seizures from the withdrawal without knowing that's what they where.

If you are having "seizures", many people here are having them, too. Yes, withdrawal symptoms are often neurological events related to abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

 

They occur in waves and can be very sudden and intense.

 

I had some episodes of jamais vu myself, as well as years of depersonalization (feeling outside oneself).
 
You will find that doctors can come up with lots of non-substantiated diagnoses based on withdrawal symptoms. What does your doctor propose to do about yours?

Many thanks,  Alto.  I am going back to the doctor monday.  I have noticed the last 2 bad episodes I had were between 2 to 3 hours after doses of percocet.  Now I do take percocet everyday and I don't have these seizure like episodes  that often but I do remember that the destabilized CNS can react to even medications that NORMALLY would not cause OVER Stimulation, as the entire system is in freefall and attempting to re establish itself.  Both times, it was also when I had taken percocet EARLIER in the day.  Generally, I feel better as the day goes on and if I dont need Percocet until later in the day I dont seem to have this neurological reaction.  The xanax and Skelaxin as of yet pose no problems.

 

Since I have suffered from the Petit Mal in the past, it makes sense that this would be a weak point for me, although what I am having now is a different type of seizure.  

 

I found the paragraph that I was looking for last month that also relates here:

 

The first phase of withdrawal, the acute phase, is the initial shock of withdrawal, with the most defined symptoms, such as brain zaps and nausea. The second phase is when the serotononergic receptors are repopulating, with waves of depression and anxiety. It seems that I am in all 3 stages at once, which is possible as the part of my brain that was reacting to the initial drops in dosage could be attempting to repopulate receptors and now causing trouble with medications that formally did not cause me problems.  It has, however, only been since..June 11th that I dropped down to 10mg of liquid where I still am today, and this week I have been having the brain zaps that had stopped for almost 3 weeks.  I assume that the brain zaps are a result of the last few drops in June.

 

I have this HOPE that this is not permanent, as I NEVER dropped below 10 mgs of paxil, which, as from the  'sert" curve paper, is the dosage the 'rewires" the greater part of the brain.  So, whatever part of my brain that is fighting through this is the other percentage of my brain that was only affected, hopefully, by the dose above 10 mgs.  Any idea if this "hope" could be considered well founded?  Thanks.

While not stages in a strict sense I do see they follow that pattern.  The medications are the same, only the dosages have been tweaked.  Had to raise my Thyroid because for whatever reason I wasnt geting the same benefit as the lower dose.  And after a month we cut the Wellbutrin again another 10mgs since the doctor says if I'm having seizures Wellbutrin is not good.

 

I also noticed how the "seretonin syndrome" that can happen with certain meds and the SSRI matches alot of symptoms of seizures and withdrawal.  I wonder if coming off an SSRI too fast CAN have the same result when taking my other meds. 

 

Has anyone else been put on an anti convulsant medication during their withdrawal to help their seizures?

I'm going back to the doctor on Monday.  I'm not sure what else He could possibly suggest.

Correct, Wellbutrin is not good for seizures, which brings up the question why he prescribed it in the first place. as well as oxycodone, alprazolam, and Paxil, which in combination increase the risk of seizures.

 

I am dubious you are having seizures in the formal sense. It sounds very much to me that you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms which, as I said before, can be abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

 

Please keep notes of your daily symptom pattern as well as the time and dosage of your drugs. This will help determine if a symptom is from a drug.

 

Rather than changing dosage of this or that drug, keep everything steady for at least a week to get a better picture of what's going on. Your changing dosages all the time is confusing things.

Thank you Alto,  I really appreciate your time.  I am now a week into the Wellbutrin drop from approx 28 to 18 mgs which so far is only giving me thirst and dry mouth.  Even though Before I had been dropping 25mg every 2 weeks with everything crashing 8 weeks ago I didnt want to drop too much even though I had been on the 28 mgs 7 out of the past 8 weeks. The goal is to get me off of that because of the seizure issues by dropping the last remaining doses about 10mgs only every 30 days.

 

I never has issues with these types of seizures, if that is even what they are when I was at the higher dosages of my meds: paxil cr at 25mg PLUS Wellbutrin at 300xl PLUS the Percocets and xanax.  This all has only started in the past 8 weeks.  What part the Mononucleosis is playing in aggrivating an already confusing situation I wonder as thats a major full body viral issue that can't be helping.

 

No symptoms today or yesterday other than anxiety and mono symptoms.

 I'm sorry if I didn't present my point properly that it came across as I was disagreeing with you, as I do believe your assessment is correct!

 

I do agree with you Alto that whatever these "events" are.. by "label".. that they are most assuredly from the withdrawal. I don't think I all of a sudden now came down with a new form of epilepsy.  The concern is, is the Wellbutrin, even in trace amounts, casuing interference with the Paxil Withdrawal, and causing or making these "seizure" or "seizure like" episodes worse.  I have a suspicion that the "events" are Paxil related. However, I remember reading that being on Wellbutrin during the Paxil withdrawal phase could lead to 'seizures" proper, and that the Wellbutrin should be discontinued FIRST in order to prevent this.  Unfortunately, I was dropping off both meds at once and won't ever be able to know for sure.  But I haven't been able to find any data that these types of issues come from Wellbutrin withdrawal.  I have not dropped the Paxil since June 11th,and will not be for quite some time.  I've learned too much here to see that dropping  15mgs of Paxil from 25 cr mgs to 10 liquid (after being on it for over 20 years), in ONLY Just under 5 months was way too fast.  

 

Again, I thank you so much for your time and concern.  What I have learned here has given me hope during some very rough times.

I'm back from the doctor.  He says both Alto and I are correct.  

 

While "technically" SOME.. (Not all, but SOME) of these spells I'm having can be labeled as seizures, it's not Epilepsy in the "proper" sense and He does believe that they are most Iikely "withdrawal agitated" by the fact that I'm still on the Wellbutrin.  He agrees with alot of what is written here, that once your system is destablized, even trace amounts of a med, or meds that normally don't give  a problem can "cause" the episodes.  "Cause" to be understood loosly, considering I didn't have these issues when I was on the high dosages.

 

He does NOT think seizure meds will help, in fact, He wants me the the lowest amounts of the other meds (percocet and skelaxin) as I can tolerate until I can get off the Wellbutrin completely.  In fact, His exact words were:  "I don't even want to give you a glass of water at this point" .Lol

 

We took blood to see what change in my Thyroid levels since we increased the dose 4 weeks ago.  Normally you would wait longer but that level was so out of wack I wanted to see if there's some significant move before I waste another 4 weeks at a level that still way to high.  We have no idea why it was basically, almost as if I wasn't taking it and i wondered if that was an 'absorption" issue that was withdrawal related.  Find out in a few days. 

 

He doesn't want me decreasing the Paxil at all but to get off the Wellbutrin ASAP.  I told Him I had been at 28mgs for 7 out of 8 weeks from June 20th to Aug 14th when I just dropped it to a quarter of a pill a day, around 18.75.  

 

My plan had been to stay at that level for a month, then drop it in half again for another month before stopping but he wants less time in between drops, like 2 weeks.

 

It really is one of those "damned if you do - damned if you don't" situations.  Once your system is out of wack, even dropping off a problem med, like the Wellbutrin comes with it's own issues.  It's been 10 days since my last drop and the "increased thirst" is just starting to subside.  Which by itself isn't a real problem, but it does atleast show my body is still making adjustments to even such a tiny drop.  I think I'm going to give it atleast 3 weeks, not 2.  I'm still having alot of trouble with the Mononeucleosis symptoms and even small stressors don't help recovering from that either.

I can well believe that he wants you off the Wellbutrin as soon as possible, as it has probably dawned on him that he is legally liable for adverse reactions from your drug cocktail.

 

However, it is you, not he, who will have to deal with withdrawal symptoms.

 

If taken regularly, Percocet and Skelaxin also need to be carefully tapered, for the same reasons. If your nervous system is destabilized now, it can get worse.

I gave myself the extra almost full week before dropping the Wellbutrin again on Sept 3rd.  Not knowing if the theory that holds for the SSRI's about making smaller cuts the closer you get to zero would also apply to the Wellbutrin, instead of dropping the dose in half from 18.75 to 9.375 by cutting the 75 mg pills, I remembered I still had some 100mg pills left, and that instead of  only taking an 8th of the 75mg, if I took an 8th of the 100mg, I would be only dropping my current dose by 1/3rd instead of 1/2, from 18.75 down to 12.5.   I've been taking that for 4 days now.  When I dropped  only about 9mgs on Aug.14th from 28.12 to 18.75, my body still registered the change as I had the increased thirst and other symptoms around day 9 after the drop as I have had with every other Wellbutrin drop.  Interested to see If I my body "balks" again in about 5 more days from now with only a 6.25mg drop.  

 

The past 2 weeks I have also "traded" one morning symptom for another.  From mid July until 2 weeks ago, I would wake with morning anxiety which was not normal for me, so I chalked it up to dropping the SSRI too fast.  About 2 weeks ago, it changed from morning anxiety to another neurological symptom related to the smelling colors and tasting numbers that originally started off this crash.  Upon awakening but before really being fully conscious, I have what I can only describe as something like a "mood swing"  but it is centered STRICTLY in the center of my chest, and it BOTH feels and tastes  purple and orange.  It subsides within 5 minutes of being fully awake.  

 

No change on the Paxil. I gave the doctor my word I wouldn't drop the Paxil until I had been off the Wellbutrin 30 days, as he was a bit upset about the whole situation last time I was there.  With all the "psychic seizure" type issues and the tasting colors and numbers.  However, I'm not even sure how I would ever really "know" when it's safe to drop it anyway, since last week, to my dismay, I had 5 days straight of severe "brain zaps" which I would get, like clockwork, EXACTLY the 4th day after a Paxil drop.  Now considering I've been at the same Paxil dose since 6/13, I can tell you I was a bit dismayed.  If these symptoms can come and go for this long after a drop, how am I ever supposed to know if my symptoms are from a "recent" drop that was too large, or just something that's going to come and go for who knows how long?

I suffer from seizures too- simple partial temporal lobe -

 

Going on Paxil made them much worse and being at any mg over 20 made them worse - discontinuing never did - and I could specifically tell what my seizure symptoms were compared to wd - they are 2 different feelings - my seizure are much more comforting for me compared to the feelings of wd - cause I know what to expect when I have a seizure, I also have auras before I have a seizure, wd never caused auras-

Thank you for your kind reply.  I am sorry for your troubles.  It  makes sense that any type of anti depressant would affect neurological issues.  To me, trying to differenciate from one brain issue against another is problematic as no part of the brain really works independent of the other.

Yes, I understand that.  But they restarted TEN WEEKS after my last drop,  How does one know how long one has to wait and be "brain zap free" before they know its safe to drop again?  I realize thats not an answerable question, but it shows the legitimate frustration of never knowing when it's safe to make another drop if they can restart when you've been at the same level for 10 weeks.  Sigh. 

 

Unless they were from the slight Wellbutrin drop from 8/14, from 28.12mg to 18.75mg, a whole whopping 9mgs?

Well... I can't believe it...  The brain zaps are back today....  I guess it was the 9MG Wellbutrin drop on 8/14 that caused them around the 21st of August for 5 days... Because they then stopped and then when I dropped the Wellbutrin after 3 weeks on 9/3, a drop of a whopping 6.5mgs.., well now their back today....   A mere 6.5mgs, not only am I shocked personally that 2 such minicule drops could do that... but that is just absolutely ridiculous.

 

 I'm also having the symptom the past few hours of feeling like I'm in a dream..

 And the words on the screen look "mispelled" again today.  The letters aren't upside down again but it looks like letters are missing.

 

So... Put me down as the woman who had Wellbutrin brain zaps for a mere 9mg and then 6.5mg drop 3 weeks later.  ABSOLUTELY RIDCULOUS... I mean, I remember reading here that once your systems were destablised that even "minute" drops that previously were ok could then become a problem, but, 6.5mgs?  Really?  Unbelievable. I used to drop 25mgs every 2 -3 weeks no problem.

 

Well, the good news then is it probably wasn't an "extended" Paxil symptom after 10 weeks.  That makes me feel alot better.  But I didnt think that your symptoms could "change" that far into your withdrawal.  Go figure. 

 

So, I guess I'll be butchering these 100mg pills into 8ths for an extended period of time...

I just had one of those scary seizure like episodes upon waking again.Was resting and probably fell asleep for only half an hour and woke up at 6:30pm with it.  Hadn't had one in a while.   Looking at the figures, I've been at 12.5mg of Wellbutrin for a week, but in total it's only been a total of about 26 days since I was on the 28.12 average dose.  So now that I've been on the 2nd drop for a week my brain is probably getting close to only having the 12.5mg and that's  55% percent drop in less than 4 weeks.  Guess I shouldn't have made that last drop last week.  Not as many brain zaps today but a few.  But those episodes are REALLY SCARY.

I see now why so many people NEVER get off.  Who would possibly conceive that 2 drops that TOGETHER only represent 5% of your original dose (AND only HALF of the dose you used to drop with no problem)  could be so problematic?     I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened to me.

Two more really bad withdrawal days.  Still hard to believe all from a drop of only about 16 mgs in 20 days when things had started to get so much better.  The Anxiety has been constant for 2 straight days meaning I need twice as much xanax as usual, and the extreme thirst is day 5.  But the hallucinations and the same strange thought I had during the activation phase:  "Pick up the knife and stab yourself in the eye" only lasted 2 days. Still having the really bad head pressure, thats day 4.  Feels like it's going to explode.

 

The Good news?  I Got the insurance to pay for the med to be compounded at exactly 12.5mgs.  No more butchering 100mg pills into 8ths.  I can only imagine how far off my daily doses could have been.  Surely didnt help settle the brain down any.

Oh my God I want to die.   Why did I left that doctor talk me into dropping the Wellbutrin as fast as I could when I was just starting to feel better?  It wasn't the 10 mg drop on 8/14 that did me in, it was I only waited 20 days and dropped it another 6 too soon.  This past 2 days have been constant suffering.  The Xanax isn't even lasting 4 hours and I woke up again today in one of those seizure like episodes.  I can't think, all my muscles hurt, I can't eat.  Those episodes had stopped and only restarted when I made the seocond drop on 9/3, so it wasn't being on the Wellbutrin per se that was causing them it was the drops too soon and too high a percentage.  I also have been having those weird "mood swing" like episodes that are centered directly in the chest and are like an emotional stabbing, but they feel brown and taste purple when they happen.  Lasted for a hour yesterday.  I almost went to the Emergency room today but I realized it's sunday and those idiots dont know anything anyway. I called the covering doc and she said if the xanax isnt lasting 4 hours to take it clser for today but get back into see a doctor tomorrow.  I just want to die.  And I'm not even depressed.

A lot of people find them helpful. Try a little bit of one at a time to see how it affects you.

 

The magnesium in particular relaxes muscles and can be calming. Epsom salts baths can work, too.

For the Omega 3's, I have been taking one of the Solgar products.  It's called Earthsource Organic Flaxseed Oil Cold presssed. I've been taking that for some time. One tablespoon provides 13,950 Organic flaxseed Oil in the following breakdown:

 

Omega 3 Alpha-Linolenic Acid 6,975mgs, Omega 6 linolenic Acid: 1,687mg, Omega 9 Oleic Acid 1,994mg, and 1,004mg of "other" fatty acids.

It's only $12.78 for a months supply, so I can afford it. I'm allergic to Shellfish so I stick with the flaxseed and close to 7,000mgs a day for only $12.78 a month is the best deal I can find around here.

Those weird hallucinations has started again as well.  There kind of like, "Perception Anomalies": Like I pass a picture and it' almost as if the face changes, and I'm having more strange thoughts like, if I look at something " It's gonna fly off the wall and hit you".

 

 It's been 2 weeks since the dosage change and 1 week since the symptoms started.  I hope this is the peak.  I don't know how many more days I can do this, fighting thinking about death.  I'd hate to up the dosage again if I'm only a few days from feeling somewhat better.

This Magnesium has helped me in the past. Also I soak in Epsom salt baths regularly. I am sorry this is happening and I know how scary it can be while your brain is trying to get stable and heal. Prayers you get relief soon!

About the magnesium, the thread says:

Does that mean I should only take 25mg a day TOTAL to start, or 25mg a few times a day?

 

iT'S ONLY been 3 hours and the xanax is wearing off too soon already.  I called the doctor and they can't get me in today.  She was like, can it wait till wends?  I was like:  "Lady I just told you I'm hallucinating, I don't think that's something you want to put off"....  "Alright come in tomorrow.   You would think they would be more concerned about the legal liabilities since they were the ones who put me on it.
