I figured 3.75 mg was a small enough dosage to just quit. If not, what is a small enough dosage?

You'd think it would be okay to "jump" from 3.75 mg, 50% of the lowest dose tablet. Unfortunately many people discover that it was too high a cliff for their CNS (central nervous system).

Tough way to reinforce the information that it's a bad idea to combine these medications with alcohol or to consume alcohol during withdrawal.  Hope you feel better soon.

So I'm currently taking an eighth of a pill. Can't chop it up anymore without it disintegrating. What if I took 3.75mg every other day for a while?

Hi,

Could you please update your signature so it reflects your current drugs and doses?  Thanks.

Been a long time since I've been here. I'll get to the point. Got down to 2.5mg of Lex, took that for about 2 months then quit. So far it's been ok. I've also cut down quite a bit on alcohol which honestly I think i was using to dull the withdrawal symptoms.

So now, like clockwork every day, I get HIGHLY negative and fed up with the entire world around 2:30PM. It lasts til about 7PM.

Today I got a pretty bad review at work. Normally this might upset one, but I started to get that extreme anger as well as some "OMG I'll be stuck here forever and every other job will be just as bad" catastrophising kind of thinking. I was able to step back and think, "hmm, that's some rather extreme thinking..."

It's true that the job is bullsh*t and everyone there can go to hell, but I'm thinking the anger/panicky feelings might be withdrawal symptoms.

Thoughts?

hi,

i am interested to know when you stopped taking it and what was your dosage before 2.5mg?

i am reducing lex too.

your post is way too funny

"It's true that the job is bullsh*t and everyone there can go to hell, but I'm thinking the anger/panicky feelings might be withdrawal symptoms."

i had the same kind of panicky, anger feeling like you do too.

i am at 2.25mg, dealing with a lot of insomnia and cortisol surge.

sometimes the anger is so strong, i think "well, i may as well jump off of the bridge if i see one"

then i stop myself and i go "hummm.... maybe i should just hold for a while"- and sure enough, within 5 days, i am much better.

the insomnia is a bummer though. this has been my main theme for the last 2 years.

june 2014 to feb  2015- on xanax 0.25 to 1mg/day- then CT - jan 2016 - panic attack, went on 3.75mg remeron to sleep march 2016- CT remeron (because it caused me tinnitus)- deep depression, couldn't sleep because of  intrusive Tinnitus

april to june 2016- valium 4mg, xanax as needed, lunesta 3mg

june 2016 - valium 4mg, lexapro 10mg

oct 2016- valium 2mg, lexapro 10mg- hold

march 2017- started daily micro liquid taper of valium and lex- -taper speed 0.0033mg valium daily and 0.033mg lex daily

may 2018- valium 1mg, lexapro 2.4mg - i had to slow down the rate of my daily micro taper considerably

LAST dose of Lexapro: 0.05mg on 05/17/19

LAST dose of valium: 0.04mg on 08/18/19

April 26th 2020- intense panic attack that lasted 4 days, akatisia, 0 sleep- suicidal, almost hospitalized- took rescue doses over 2 days- total: 1.5mg xanax, 18mg valium, 2x5mg lexapro

I think a couple years ago i was on 30mg. Its been a while ago so i dont remember exactly and my taper has been more by feel than any sort of system. I would just keep cutting the dose in half and then seeing if i could handle it. I tapered remeron before that. Been off that for about 1.5 years.

does it make sense quitting a tiny dose like 2.5 mg could have such an effect?

September 2014 to July 2015 - 20 mg Lexapro, 30mg Mirtazipine

August 2015 to November 2016- 10mg Lexapro, 30 mg Mirtazipine

Nov. 2017 to Mach 2018 - 5mg/2.5mg Lexapro, 0mg Mirtazipne

Jumping off at 2.5 mg would likely cause considerable withdrawal symptoms.  The cuts at the very low doses have more effect than the higher dosage cuts.  Because of this, we recommend tapering very slowly at the lower doses.  We also recommend jumping off at no higher than .5 mg and preferably lower.

When did you stop taking the 2.5 mg?

@MRothbard well jumping off at 2.5 was not the safest choice but since the withdrawals are only anhedonia and depression in m8 opinion you shude just stay drug-free now because reinstating  might do a lot of damage

so stay strong and use natural coping mechanism and don't try to quit CT of alcohol if you are addicted to it wait for the brain to stable from the SSRI withdrawal and then taper{but ofc try to limit at max has possible but don't make it cause wd)

once again if the WD is not debilitating stay off them  and don't reinstate

only reinstate if the symptoms are unbearable

and if the benefit outways the risk

remember from this point on its only healing that will happen

so stay strong.

Hey M-- It looks like your signature is way out of date, would you please update it with information on how you tapered down to 2.5mgai and when you made the jump to "0" and information on any other drugs you may be taking.  This will give us the information we need to make our recommendations.

Try reading through this thread

Dealing With Emotional Spirals

It might help with the anger and frustration issues.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

When something happens like clockwork, it's probably due to something you did earlier in the day. Are you skipping lunch?

It also sounds like you don't like your job, you find it frustrating, and it starts to wear on you in the afternoon.

As for the anger, etc. -- does this behavior predate your taking psychiatric drugs? If so, it's your disposition. If it's causing you problems, a stress management course might be a good idea. Or take up meditation.

Congratulations on being drug-free and learning to deal with your emotions! Do you have any other odd symptoms? How's your sleep?

Anger Spiral? I LIVE in the Anger Spiral. I AM the Anger Spiral.

Seriously yeah, that's happening but I think I can power through it.

Sleep is ok, sometimes I don't get a real heavy sleep, but mostly pretty good.

Been thinking about taking up meditation again.

Little update. experiencing a steady state of negativity and cynicism about well, the entire world and everyone in it, punctuated by moments of alrightness. saw a remote-controlled lawn mower today and obsessed about how robots are going to take over and I'll starve. So yeah, sense of well-being and emotions in general are not what you would call normal.

The question I've been pondering is, "maybe this is just me, maybe I need anti-depressants"  The symptoms aren't even close to as bad as they once were but I wonder of course, when will I start to come out of these withdrawal symptoms. I've heard 12 months or more possibly.

seems like I can, and should stick with discontinuing. But not sure.

Physical symptoms are odd. Yesterday I had so much energy even after my workout I felt like I was gonna jump out of my skin. Accompanied by an intense libido spike, like I could bang a hole in the fence and that would be pretty cool.

Ok. HELP! Pretty sure I jacked myself up again. Too much caffeine, alcohol, and a more intense workout schedule combined with work stress has caused me to crash. Anxiety all day, trouble sleeping. Tiny little thoughts or concerns send little jolts of panic through me. I'm so frustrated, things were going well.

It's clear what I need to do in some aspects: for the love of god quit the caffeine and booze and let up a bit on my workout schedule.

I bought something called moodcure that works pretty well. I read something about seriphos on here, wondering if I should check that out.

I'm really scared. This is how things got really bad ten years ago, I don't want to take that long to get back to normal.

Any advice or encouragement is welcome

"It's clear what I need to do in some aspects: for the love of god quit the caffeine and booze and let up a bit on my workout schedule."

These are some of the best things you could do right now. Do be aware that each one of which will gave a withdrawal period that will be from mild to brutal and can last many weeks.  But to continue to do these things will only make your ADWD harder.

There is a lot of information on seriphos here at SA do a google search on survivingantidepresants.org seripos.

I would be very careful with the MoodCure supplements.  Several of the ingredients are things we tell people to avoid.  In particular is one referred to as Phenibut which can cause a lot of trouble for people in ADWD.  Again we have a lot of information on Phenibut, just search for it.

Just because you were doing fine on 2.5mg before doesn't mean you will the next time.  With WD and recovery, everything is in constant flux.   Just going by your description of your symptoms, they seem to be typical and tolerable.  You've worked hard to get to zero.  If you can I would stick it out and try what you suggested for yourself--cutting out caffeine and alcohol and letting up on the workouts.

BLLLLAAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!!!!!

Well I haven't reinstated. But this SUCKS. Went to Starbucks to get a decaf pourover. They gave me caffeinated. This led to a sleepless night and a day full of anxiety. Episodes like this take about 2-4 days to recover from. My stupid nervous system seem so fragile. I can't upset it in the slightest with anything or it goes haywire. What's "normal" thinking? what is being objective? Hell if I know. One day I'm desperate to start a whole new life, the next I just want to crawl into a cave and hibernate. Is this even withdrawal? Maybe I'm just messed up. hOw long befoer I can have some damn stability?

That's fairly typical for post-acute withdrawal syndrome.

Hi MRothbard,

I’m sorry you had such a bad reaction to caffeine. I don’t drink coffee myself. It’s amazing how things we could tolerate in the past cause such havoc now when going through withdrawals.

You certainly sound like you’re going through withdrawals with your ups n downs. None of us know when we will eventually become stable but we all will one of these days, Hang in there!

Sending hugs🤗

Hi Carmie,

Yes, quit it altogether. I'll have a half a cup of decaf in the morning but of course even that has some in it. Also decided to stop drinking alcohol altogether. It's kind of an empty feeling giving up the fun chemicals.

Overall things are improving. Still experiencing the windows and waves. The windows are getting longer and the waves less intense.

MRothbard, I'm not sure if you can take Remeron occasionally, or what would happen if you did this long-term.

Really frustrated. If I could step outside of my body I would grab it and shake the hell out of it, slap it in the face and say, "what the hell is wrong with you???? get your **** together!!! Everything was fine a week ago! While are you starting this crap again?? You know sleep is good. Just go to sleep. WTF????"

Didn't reinstate mirtazipine. Sleeping much better with a natural sleep aid. I think I'm on the back side of this particular wave.

I'm going to quit lifting for a while. Sticking with walking, yoga and meditation for probably the next several months. Seems absolutely necessarry that I keep nervous stimulation to a minimum. My body and brain just cant handle it right now.
