sashamom
I successfully slowly tapered off of Wellbutrin XL 150 over a period of six months. Now it is necessary for me to taper off of the topirimate I am taking for prevention of migraines. I take 100 mg twice a day. It actually only mitigates the migraines, instead of preventing them completely, but without that, I woul be bedridden. But, I keep losing weight, and I have a host of other side effects. I follow a migraine prevention diet mostly, eat organicly, and am sensitive to most chemicals. I have tried to taper according to the doctor's recommendation of 25mg reduction at a time, and my migraines have been bad. I want to try it this time at 10%. Administrator Altostrata Posted June 20, 2019 Administrator Share Posted June 20, 2019 Welcome, Sashamom. What is the form of topiramate that you're taking? Is it a capsule with powder or beads inside? I believe people here have tapered using the Sprinkles, see https://www.drugs.com/ppa/topiramate.html Your doctor can write prescriptions for compounded capsules containing topiramate powder, beads, or sprinkles to your custom dosages every month. sashamom
I have tablets. I went to see my doctor, and this time she reduced my dosage 50mg! All at once! From 200mg t0 150mg. I did not follow her recommendation. I had some 25mg tablets left, and although it is not ideal, I cut it in half, so that I am taking 187.5 mg. My doctor simply sees no need to taper slowly. I seem to be doing fine on this dosage. Since I cannot get my doctor on board with reducing slowly, I have to do the best I can. 1 July 2016 Venlafaxine 225 August 2016 Venlafaxine 75 1 tab every other day for twenty days then stop per dr. Administrator Altostrata Posted June 20, 2019 Administrator Share Posted June 20, 2019 sashamom, any doctor can prescribe these drugs. Can you talk to your GP about this? If this is your GP, perhaps you need a new doctor. There is no reason why the immediate-release tablets cannot be split, other than the bitter taste of the drug. Perhaps you can get another prescription for the 25mg tablets and reduce by quarter-tablets if you need to. We recommend reducing slowly by very small amounts, see Why taper by 10% of my dosage? sashamom
She is my neurologist. I think I can get her to give me another script of the 25's. And I agree, and have read the article.
