The part that I find most intriguing is the fact that the vagus nerve sends much more information TO the brain than it receives FROM it.

That's why I believe "gut-wrenching anxiety" is literally coming from the gut. I've learned to identify emotions that come from my gut; you can literally feel them coming from there.

And I think this is why the GAPs protocol, or my half-assed version of it, really seems to settle down my withdrawal symptoms, when I follow it, and why they get worse when I go off of it.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Oh yes, I have a lot of symptoms coming from my gut that manifest in different parts of my body. Some kind of dizziness/off-balance definitely has something to do with my belly. And I think that even my restless legs are connected to to it.

Doesn't really surprise me though, as my first wd symptoms started in the gut.

End of 2008: Remeron 15mg for around 2 months. Unorthodox taper, no problems.
End of August 2009: Lexapro 10mg for only 4 days. Panic attack after 3 pills. Severe gastro problems in the morning for 3 days after last pill. 2 weeks later strong w/d symptoms set in.

Acute WD lasted around 3.5 years. I am feeling much better today, 5.5 years out, but still have some symptoms left.

Ive been trying to finish Gershon's book The Second Brain for like 3 months.

He appears to be the at the head of the field. In his Intro he said he expects the info in his book to be outdated by 50% in a decade as the field was evolving rapidly but, of course, he knew not which 50% was the "wrong half"... His book was released in 98.

"Well my ship's been split to splinters and it's sinking fast
I'm drowning in the poison, got no future, got no past
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free
I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me.

Everybody's moving, if they ain't already there
Everybody's got to move somewhere
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now."

When I was in my teens and 20s, I recognized that certain stressors (school/career) effected my head/neck and others (personal/relationships) hit my gut. Not sure if this is related, but that memory just came to me.

Pristiq tapered over 8 months ending Spring 2011 after 18 years of polydrugging that began w/Zoloft for fatigue/general malaise (not mood). CURRENT: 1mg Klonopin qhs (SSRI bruxism), 75mg trazodone qhs, various hormonesLitigation for 11 years for Work-related injury, settled 2004. Involuntary medical retirement in 2001 (age 39). 2012 - brain MRI showing diffuse, chronic cerebrovascular damage/demyelination possibly vasculitis/cerebritis. Dx w/autoimmune polyendocrine failure.<p>2013 - Dx w/CNS Sjogren's Lupus (FANA antibodies first appeared in 1997 but missed by doc).

I think that's the same for me, Barb.
