GiaK
This is, of course, preaching to the choir, here...but I wanted to share... I wrote a post with some commentary piggy backing off of David Healy's latest. Many who ‘benefit’ from meds will have enduring problems from physical dependence & other legacy effects http://wp.me/p5nnb-93W Please read this article by Dr. David Healy. Many of the readers of this blog are the living victims of what he speaks. Some of us did believe that the drugs “saved” us for some time before discovering that the pay off was far worse than the temporary save..... http://wp.me/p5nnb-93W Everything Matters: Beyond Meds https://beyondmeds.com/ withdrawn from a cocktail of 6 psychiatric drugs that included every class of psych drug. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted April 25, 2013 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted April 25, 2013 Very interesting read. Anti depressants have stolen 20 years of my life and made life hell for my family because of their effects on me and I'm sure that every one of the people on this forum are the same. **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem) 1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat 2002 effexor. Tapered March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads. Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013 Restarted taper Nov 2013 OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015 Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014 Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg July 2017 30mg. May 15 2018 25mg Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure. My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33 Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible
alexjuice
When I was in the psych hospital I heard a lecture on the reduced life expectantcy of people diagnosed with psychiatric illness. I was taught that, suicide factored out, a psychiatric sufferer averages 20+ less years alive. The lecture emphasized that this was do to inactivity and lack of exercise. They also noted that the inactivity made the unfortunate side effects of necessary medications worse. Today I think the reason people with psychiatric illness, suicide factored out, live SO much shorter lifetimes than people without psychiatric illness is that the diagnosed people have been 'treated' for psychiatric illness. "Well my ship's been split to splinters and it's sinking fast I'm drowning in the poison, got no future, got no past But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free I've got nothing but affection for all those who sailed with me. Everybody's moving, if they ain't already there Everybody's got to move somewhere Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow Things should start to get interesting right about now." - Zimmerman
