Moderator Emeritus Rhiannon Posted February 9, 2015 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted February 9, 2015 Yay Monica! Five years ago, I remember; it was about the time we "met", on that benzo board which is now long gone. You were just coming off your last drug. Man, that was a rough time for you. (well not so great for me either at that time but not as bad as you.) And it was your blog that got me started on the taper that I've been doing for five years now, which has given me back my life and my self. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. You've saved a lot of lives. Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten. Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010. Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea. Moderator Emeritus Skyler Posted February 9, 2015 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted February 9, 2015 You both make me feel like a veritable newbie! I'll be celebrating my 5th anniversary this coming June. Compared to both of you, I've had an easy journey.. I did a search and came across a now defunct benzo forum and learned what I was up against before I was destabilized.... including the person who coached me on the side, and got me to go slower than the rate they were recommending. Monica... a very special congratulations, a job well done. Rhi, I'm thinking 2 or 3 more years.. and for sure, I feel MUCH better now than then. I even moved to a place I absolutely adore last June and life is very good at last. As always, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! A proud supporter of the 10% (or slower) rule. Requip - 3/16 ZERO Total time on 25 years. Lyrica: 8/15 ZERO Total time on 7 or 8 yrs.BENZO FREE 10/13 (started tapering 7/10) Total time on 25 years. Moderator Emeritus JanCarol Posted February 14, 2015 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted February 14, 2015 Well done, GiaK, I've looked to you for inspiration and alternatives in my own journey. Thank you for the "activist" side of you, as well - for sharing this - so that we can all heal. "Easy, easy - just go easy and you'll finish." - Hawaiian Kapuna Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again. My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices. A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia. CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013. Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine). Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 - Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years on Lithium). Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made. The tedious thread (my intro): JanCarol ☼ Reboxetine first, then Lithium The happy thread (my success story): JanCarol - Undiagnosed Off all bipolar drugs My own blog: https://shamanexplorations.com/shamans-blog/ I have been psych drug FREE since 1 Feb 2016!
