FDA MIA

Finally the FDA  has been well documented for going missing in action when it comes to protecting peoples lives or taking action on revelations of fraud. In fact cases exist where the FDA have even helped drug companies cover up damning evidence.

Just recently Charles Seife, lead author of the new JAMA study, described his attempt to gather data from 600 FDA clinical trial investigation documents in an article published on Slate. He said that his team of university students ultimately found the information they sought in less than 100 reports. In the piece, Seife calls on the FDA to stop protecting drug companies and excusing the actions of those who manufacture scientific findings, saying that the agency has lost the public trust by putting patients at risk.

“The sworn purpose of the FDA is to protect the public health, to assure us that all the drugs on the market are proven safe and effective by reputable scientific trials,” Seife writes. “Yet, over and over again, the agency has proven itself willing to keep scientists, doctors, and the public in the dark about incidents when those scientific trials turn out to be less than reputable. It does so not only by passive silence, but by active deception. It’s a sign that the FDA is deeply captured, drawn firmly into the orbit of the pharmaceutical industry that it’s supposed to regulate.”

I was reading NZ11 thread where I found these two links to a reporter named Seife... you just have to read them yourself as I think it will blow your mind...

Then we will talk...

I hope the links still work.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Are Your Medications Safe?

The FDA buries evidence of fraud in medical trials. My students and I dug it up.

I keep thinking of how sick I get when I take pills ... could be sensitivity but what if the pills just suck... I now wonder all my drugs are generic as that is all insurance will pay for if they are not any good... where does that leave me?...and everybody else?

Back in the old days of Effexor activist after they were forced to change the site to read only.  The site turned to a read only site before it got hit many more times and was eventually just gone.

One of the people who worked on the site told me they were all too busy working to get Obama elected and once he was the FDA would be torn down and rebuilt ... and on election night there was one report stating that was going to happen.  Then not another word of it.

One other things they said on EA was that there was a revolving door between FDA emplyee's and top job at pharma... soon as they retire after giving pharma favors they were set for life with great paying jobs.

which brings me to the point...

quote from above article

"But even the Senate couldn’t wring key information about the misconduct out of the FDA. “Every excuse under the sun has been used to create roadblocks,” complainedan indignant Sen. Charles Grassley, “even in the face of congressional subpoenas requesting information and access to FDA employees.” The head of the FDA, Andrew von Eschenbach, attempted to explain to Congress why the agency didn’t tell its advisory committee about the problems in the Ketek study: “After considering the fact that the investigation results were preliminary ... FDA decided to hold the Advisory Committee meeting as planned ...” without notifying the committee of the potential problems. But Rep. Bart Stupak quickly pointed to an email, which, he argued, contradicted von Eschenbach's testimony. “So either you are not being forthright with us, when I believe you are, but whoever is doing your work is trying to  lead this committee down the wrong path.” And the correct path showed that siteafter site involved in study 3014, as well as other key Ketek studies, were tainted as well."

Andrew von Eschenbach (where is he now) He is all smiles in his picture on the wiki page unlike his sad face in the article. Maybe the Effexor Activist people were right.

"Von Eschenbach currently serves on the Board of Directors of BioTime (NYSE MKTBTX), a biotechnologycompany helmed by CEO Michael D. West, PhD.[3] He also serves as a director of Viamet Pharmaceuticals. ["

We have until the 14th. Feb 2018.

URGENT REQUEST Please consider submitting  for the petition on Prescribed Drug Dependence and Withdrawal currently awaiting its third consideration at the Scottish Parliament. You don't even have to be from Scotland. By clicking on the link below you can read some of the previous submissions but be warned many of them are quite harrowing.

http://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01651

Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos.

Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Tell them if you wish to remain anonymous. We need the numbers to help convince the committee members we are not isolated cases. You have until mid February. Thank you

None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013.

This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality!

"Every time I read of a multi-person shooting, I always presume that person had just started a SSRI or had just stopped."  Dr Mosher. Me too!

Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015

I believe the ssri era will soon stand as one of the most shameful in the history of medicine. Healy 2015

Since 2003, the FDA has been found repeatedly, along with the National Institute of Health (NIH), to be both incompetent and corrupt.

Hassner Sharav, Vera: Alliance For Human Research Protection (AHRP) website at veracare@ahrp.org provides a running commentary and international press reports on drug safety scandals emerging daily at the FDA
