btdt
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0022399965900218 Abstract The hypothesis is advanced that depressive illness occurs when the level of amines is reduced at reactive sites in the brain, and that anti-depressant drugs will be those which increase the levels of amines at these sites. The evidence for the mechanisms of potentiation of peripheral effects of amines by mono-amine oxidase inhibitors, imipramine and amphetamine, is reviewed and the presence of multiple effects of single drugs on amine metabolism acknowledge. The mechanisms by wchich toxic effects are produced by single drugs and combination is examined. Preliminary evidence for an effect of amitriptyline on the pattern of excretion of injected tryptamine in man is presented. Copyright © 1965 Published by Elsevier Inc. I am sorry my comments did not post... correctly neither did the article... after several attempts... oddly we have to go back to 1965 to find some truth as the new science has been deleted... I am looking for the problems we in withdrawal have....food sensitivities.. histamine sensitivity... multiple chemical sensitivity... I did find this site which may lead some place... Journal of Psychosomatic Research Volume 9, Issue 1, September 1965, Pages 129–136 Changes in amine metabolism produced by antidepressant drugs G.W. Ashcroft, D. Eccleston, F. Knight, Elizabeth J. McDougall, J.L. Waddell Biogenic amines, histamine or tyramine intolerance, scrombroid poisoning Biogenic amines, such as histamine and tyramine, are compounds formed during the course of desired or undesired microbial fermentation of food or as a consequence of food spoilage. Certain foods naturally contain high levels of histamine, tyramine and/or other biogenic amines. These include: Cheeses (especially ripe), fermented meats, wine, dry sausage, sauerkraut, mushrooms, miso and soy sauce, chocolate and yeastSome individuals are more sensitive to histamine, possibly due to a deficiency in the enzymes, diamine oxidase or histamine N-methyltransferase, which break down histamine in the small intestine. It is estimated 2-5% of adults may suffer from histamine intolerance, but the condition remains contested due to the absence of confirmatory clinical studies. Potential but currently unproven diagnostic methods are enzyme quantification in intestinal tissue, blood samples or genetic tests. Some drugs also inhibit the action of these enzymes. These include: Antibiotics: (clavulanic acid/Augmentin; doxycyline, isoniazide), metoclopramide, verapamil, promethazine, older antidepressants (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), possibly herbal and nutritional supplementsOther drugs promote histamine release from immune cells, including some opioids, muscle relaxants, x-ray contrast media, as well as alcohol. Spoiled food and the associated bacterial breakdown are a common source of biogenic amines. So-called scrombroid poisoning is a major reason for food reactions to fish. Inadequately cooled, especially dark meat fish are implicated: Tuna, kahawai, mackerel, bonito, kingfish, but also Western Australian Salmon, sardines, mahi-mahi and Blue Marlin. The biogenic amines, once formed, are not destroyed by heating or re-cooling. Properly cooled, fresh fish does not induce these reactions. http://www.foodintolerances.org/histamine_or_tyramine_intolerance.aspx lets see if it will post this time... WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG Had a car accident in 85 Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89 Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above. One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking. As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1096-introducing-myself-btdt/ There is a crack in everything ..That's how the light gets in
