ted081056
I have on Paxil for 8 months (30 mg). I tried to stop after 6 months at my Doctor's request cold turkey. First time I failed. Not knowing what to except. My Anxiety got worse. I returned to Doctor and started again on a 30 mg dose. After a Physical my weight had increased 35 lbs and still climbing. Doctor said I had to control my appetite and he said it was a side effect of Paxil. I decided to take-up Karate to loose the weight and get in shape. It has been on bucket list for years. Family think at 60 yrs old I am crazy. I love it and practice hard. But as soon as I do 1 punch I am drenched in Sweat. My body heat is out of control! I was just the opposite before Paxil. I sometime have to stop and dry off. I turn red faced and totally exhausted. After finding this site. I returned to my doctor and asked about side effects of Paxil. This is one of many he said. I asked to be weened off slowly and try again. We did it slowly 30 mg 1st day 2nd day 25 mg (alternated) for 2 weeks. Then 25 mg for 1 week. Then 25 mg 1st day 20 mg next day (alternated) for 1 week. Then 20 for 1 week. Then 20 mg 1st day, 2nd day 15 mg for 1 week. then 15 mg for 1 week. Next 15 mg 1st day and 10 mg 2nd day (alternated)for 1 week. 15 mg for 1 week. Next 15 mg 1st day 10 mg 2nd day (alternated days). Next 10 mg 1st day then 5 mg 2nd day (alternated days). Next 5 mg for 1 week. Next 5 mg 1st day then 2.5 mg 2nd day (alternated days). Next 2.5 mg for 1 week. Next 2.5 mg for 1st day, 2nd day 1 mg (alternated days). Then 1 mg for 1 week. Now I was off Paxil again.I have been doing good with my Anxiety issues. I have started taking Omega 3 and Vitamin E. also. I know it makes other students creepy when sparing with me, sweating so much. I need help with my Anxiety because of my job. I asked for Paxil because it help my brother who also suffers from Anxiety. I did not know the side effect from this drug when I started. I have a good Doctor. He has encouraged me to stop when I felt ready. I have an appointment every 90 days or sooner if needed to check on my Anxiety and Paxil. I have had a few days of mild Anxiety. The karate training has help a lot. They work with you on staying calm and building self confidence. When Anxiety comes I start training harder. The Physical workout really helps me. I am starting to loose the extra lbs. also. If anyone knows if there is help with stopping the sweating it would surly help. Thanks to everyone who has shared their stories on this web site. Administrator Altostrata Posted August 14, 2016 Administrator Share Posted August 14, 2016 Welcome, ted. I moved your first post here to start your Introductions topic. Has the sweating gotten worse since you've been off Paxil? Are you taking any other drugs? How is your sleep? Many people do better with fish oil and magnesium supplements, seehttp://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/36-king-of-supplements-omega-3-fatty-acids-fish-oil/http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1300-magnesium-natures-calcium-channel-blocker/ This is not medical advice. ted081056
AltostrataI see my first post was long. This weening process seemed to have worked better for me. Just wanted to share. I believe the sweating has stayed the same. It am soaked after 15 minutes. It is hard to tell if it has gotten worse. I do get up much earlier than when I was on the Paxil. Usually slept until 7:00AM now 5:30 wide awake. I get up and walk a few miles with dog and run 2 miles. This helps me relax. I have started to take Omega3 and Vitamin E. as some other people said it helped them Thank-you for your reply.. Link to comment
Moderator Emeritus Petunia Posted August 15, 2016 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted August 15, 2016 Hi ted, antidepressants change the way the brain and nervous system function, it can take a while for things to go back to the way they were pre-drugs. Everyone is different, so its impossible to estimate how long it will be for you, but give it some time and take care of yourself the best you can with healthy lifestyle choices, which you are already doing Here is the link to our symptoms and self care section, you may find some useful ideas to help manage as you recover. Especially read the topics pinned at the top. It would be great if you would put your drug and withdrawal history in your signature. Doing this helps people understand your context, it appears below each of your posts. Here are instructions for how to do it: Please put your withdrawal history in your signature I'm not a doctor. My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one. My Introduction Thread Full Drug and Withdrawal History Brief Summary Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects 2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010 Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal) May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins. Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens. Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days. Administrator Altostrata Posted August 16, 2016 Administrator Share Posted August 16, 2016 ted, the Paxil knocked your endocrine and autonomic systems for a loop. Sweating is an autonomic function. Most likely, your body will very gradually move back to its normal. This can take months. If I were you, I'd stay out of the sun and as cool as possible when you can. This is not medical advice.
