Hello Jasmin,

Well done on realising so quickly that it's best not to be taking this drug - and for wondering about the need to taper carefully.

Usually we recommend a gentle taper, reducing by no more than 10% of your current dose each month.  This allows your brain time to adjust as you go, and lessens any withdrawal.  However for people such as yourself who have been taking a drug for less than a month, tapering can be done more quickly.

Can I clarify, were you on remeron for longer than the 23 or 27 days you mentioned?  Please put your drug and withdrawal history in your signature – all drugs/dates/dosages etc - so we can see your situation easily whenever you post, and help you more accurately.  Thanks.

In the mean time you may like to try Fish oil and Magnesium which many people find useful during withdrawal.  Keeping things simple will also help a lot:  Keep it Simple; Keep it Slow; Keep it Stable

Non-Drug Techniques to cope with emotional symptoms.

Have a read of those and then you can come back to this thread to discuss things further.  This can be your journal to record your tapering and healing progress, and to ask questions.  With the right information you can do this safely, and don't need to be scared.  Once you have given us all the details, together we can make a plan.

Welcome to SA,

Karen

Welcome, Jasminl.

This is the right place for your questions.

Do you have any mirtazapine left? If you take a tiny amount, your headache will go away and you probably will be able to sleep. You are having withdrawal symptoms.

You can make a liquid yourself, this topic explains how Tips for tapering off Remeron (mirtazapine)

If I were you, I'd take maybe 5mg and see if that helps. You can taper off it more slowly later.

It seems you are a person who is quite sensitive to change in dose.  Did you try the 5mg as Alto suggested?  The best way through withdrawal may be to get settled on 5mg and then carefully taper off.

I know, it's not nice having to keep taking the drug but it's not forever, just for a bit longer to allow you to safely withdraw.

Drinking plenty of water is also very important.

Experts will be along to answer properly about tapering. I just wanted to say don't take klonopin or any other benzo if you aren't already using regularly. You will just make your future that much more hellish. I was given valium to deal with antidepressants and now I'm in twice as much trouble.

Current daily meds. Citalopram 2.5mg morning. Diazapam 1.5mg evening, Propanalol 40mg split 4x10mg throughout day.

Recent meds. Fluoxetine 20mg began 24th Nov 2017, CT on 4th December on medical advice due to bad Akathisia. Citalopram 10mg began on 13th Dec 2017, tapered to 2.5mg by 20th Dec 2017 on medical advice. Diazapam 2mg began on 6th Dec 2017 cut to 1.5 mg on 26th Dec. Propanalol 40mg began on 13th Dec. Zopiclone 3.75 mg began 13th December, used maybe 5 times then quit.

Previous history. Tricyclics, Fluoxetine or Citalopram for periods of 6mo to 2yrs over last 25 years. Probably 5 yrs in total. No significant ill effects.

Hi jasmin,

It would be very much appreciated if you would simplify your drug signature by following the preferred format.  This will make it easier for us to see your history at a glance.  Please use this format.  Thank you

A request: Would you summarize your history in a signature - ALL drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements, in the last 12-24 months particularly?

  • Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses.
  • A list is easier to understand than one or multiple paragraphs.
  • Any drugs prior to 24 months ago can just be listed with start and stop years.
  • Please use actual dates or approximate dates (mid-June, Late October) rather than relative time frames (last week, 3 months ago)
  • Spell out months, e.g. "October" or "Oct."; 9/1/2016 can be interpreted as Jan. 9, 2016 or Sept. 1, 2016.
