bheb Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Has anyone ever had a constant feeling of butterflies or a deep unease in the pit of their stomach? For me it comes in 5 second waves every 2 minutes or so. It feels exactly like how you feel when you get quite nervous, but right now I'm not anxious about anything. I have akathisia, and three days ago I had some panic/antibiotics/infection that set off terrible akathisia and mental terror. The worst of the terror is gone now, but this stomach sensation has increased in intensity and frequency. Wyn Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 I get that feeling of butterflies/panic in my stomach it's really annoying isn't it Prozac has given me Cervical Dystonia I don't know if I have akathisia what are your symptoms I do feel like my body is vibrating but that could be Dystonia or Anxiety!
bheb Posted September 20, 2017 Author Posted September 20, 2017 I'm sorry, that sounds awful. I also feel like my body vibrates, but (for me) that's distinct from both my akathisia and this fluttering stomach feeling. Akathisia is a deep kind of agitation and tension that makes you want to move around. Unlike anxiety, it's constant and unrelated to your thoughts although some people report feeling terrified. I've had it for about 8 months and mine was pretty standard physical akathisia (needing to pace around and scratch myself) until recently. I think the mental terror I have now is probably related to the same kind of drug effects that cause akathisia but not directly linked. Wyn, is your stomach fluttering constant? I'd say mine happens every 3 minutes...it's like a weird nervous burning burst that lasts for 2 seconds and then comes again. wantrelief Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 I have exactly what you are describing most of the time - either that butterfly feeling or a pit in my stomach feeling. Both are very uncomfortable for me as I guess they remind me of how anxious I am feeling. I am trying to accept the feelings but must admit it is challenging. -1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD) -10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot -Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram -Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015 -8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?) - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg). Superwoman Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Yes, I have this butterfly, fluttering feeling in my stomach as well. I have it real bad today. It also comes in bursts. I also have a little bit of a burning sensation in my stomach. I have had bad acid reflux all day and bloating. I don’t know if the butterfly in stomach feeling is a physical symptom related to the acid reflux, or if it is related to the antidepressant, or if it is anxiety related. 1993-2000: Zoloft few months CT, Prozac 1-2 yrs, Ritalin PRN 2002/2003: Wellbutrin, Paxil 25mg FT, and Xanax PRN CT (all 3 to 6 months), Adderal 40mg, Strattera 40mg 2003- 2016: Effexor XR 75 mg to 150 mg., Strattera (2002-2008) 2017: Effexor XR 225 mg.
