I hope getting off these meds I will lose weight. And I’ve never changed my diet.

I didn’t weigh this much when I was pregnant with either of my children.

I only started gaining weight when I went on these horrible meds 20+ years ago.

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

I am not a medical professional.

The suggestions I make are based on personal experience.

Is it normal to barely start dealing with loss of appetite even though it's been a year since I tapered off from my medication? My appetite had been okay until it hit Easter weekend. It has been a struggle for me to get food into my system since then.

Adepsique: January 2016 - July 2016 (took half a pill in the mornings for 6 months) the dosage was 5 mg of amitriptyline, 1.5 mg of diazepam, and 1 mg of perphenazine

Escitalopram: 10 mg: July 2016 - April 2018

Olanzapine 2.5mg: July 2016 - October 2017

What are everyone's experiences losing weight after stopping the meds? I tapered off over a 2 year period and though I shouldn't be complaining because mentally I feel well,  I have been med free 14 months and the weight won't budge up or down! Despite an extremely healthy/clean diet and rigorous exercise 3-4x a week. I gained roughly 40 lbs during my reinstatement and it won't come off.

ANYWAY curious others experiences. Thanks!

I too gained 40 pounds on prozac pretty quickly. I'm tapering off now but I'm terrified this is my new weight now. I don't fit in my entire closet of clothes. I feel so uncomfortable in my body. Does anyone have any tips for losing weight caused by a/d's?

Prozac 10 mg around 2 years. I started tapering by taking it every other day as recommended by my doctor on May 31st.

Geodon for around 7 years. Different amounts. Currently on 40 mg for several years.

I was on clonazepam for 7 years. Highest dose 1.5 mg a day. Did a fast taper off. I have been off 4 months and 1 week.

I also feel so uncomfortable in my body...I always was able to lose weight after I went off the drugs til I had a hysterectomy.

I think menopause plays a role in weight gain but I also think these drugs change metabolism, too.

IT's very frustrating when you've always been thin or even underweight,,,I hate it.

I gained weight on Lexapro and then got pregnant a year after. my weight hasnt budged since pregnancy ( its been 3 years!)

What i want to know is:
Is the weight gain from the drug?
OR
Is the weight gain from eating normally/ decreased anxiety?

For me- when i am anxious I dont eat, I have OCD re: scales and # and ALWAYS stayed in a specific range of 5# until the OCD was controlled by the lexapro... then i threw the scale out.
I eat healthy, i exercise, I exclusively breastfed my child for 2 years- and still i havent dropped a pound.

I get so confused because the Med insert reports NO weight changes... and MDs say this drup is weight neutral- but is it??

I am  realllly hoping once I get off these drugs I can be back to a more comfortable size....( and control the OCD so i dont have to be within 5 # to feel okay...)

Any insight would be SO appreciated!

the doctors and drug companies don't know what they're talking about...these drugs do cause weight gain in many people.

when I started Prozac 25 years ago I weighed about 130 and a few months later I was up to 150!

I never changed my diet during this time.

when I took Effexor in 2003 I went up to 175! when I stopped it I lost over 25 lbs.

I was someone who never had a weight problem, who actually was underweight for most of my life.

Hopefully you will see weight loss after coming off the drugs.

I've been taking Sertraline for 8 months. The past couple of months, I've noticed rapid weight gain. Ugh!  Has anyone noticed weight loss once you started tapering? Also, has anyone tried a keto/low carb diet while taking an AD for weight loss?

Low dose of Ativan for 2 months; quickly became physically dependent and experienced interdose withdrawals. Cold turkeyed in January 2019.

Started Sertraline in November 2018. Highest dose of 100mg and currently on 93 mg and looking to taper off and become medication free!

Hi all

Was on Celexa for 6 months starting with 5mg and weaning up to 20 mg over months  so 5 , 10, 15 ,20  ,,,,,,it did relax me more but

Did not like the idea of being on meds, so I tapered off over the course of 3 mo

I am 45, have always been in shape with a 6 pack, I jog and lift weights everyday.  Over the course of the time being on this drug I gained 17lbs, I have never gained weight like this ever.....

I now have

- fat around my waist and lower back

-bloating, pregnant look,  like I have eaten a steak dinner even though I have not had any food

-I eat small healthy meals

- I am 31 days off and have not lost a pound, this is depressing me as my GI system feels hijacked, even though I poop nice 2x a day

- Jaw, face and neck tension

- movement - motion sensations, like dizzish almost

- feeling spaced out and not there, I have had DR for 2 years now but it seems worse after stopping this med

I am well aware that these drugs affect the entire body, I have always had a fast metabolism, now I am worried that it has messed me up, I understand that 31 days is not a long time

Anyone else share some experiences with these types of symptoms and what the outcome was

I need to dream again

Thedaydreamer

smoked medical cannabis for 17 yrs bedtime ending in 2018

had panic episode on apr 2017, been strange ever since

2014 .25 xanax at bed time for 3.5 yrs

switched to klonopin .25 1.5yrs still on

citalopram weaned up to 20mg slowly, was on a total of 6mo

took 2.5 mo to wean off in 2.5mg increments, that ended in may2019

Okay, riddle me this: could withdrawing from antidepressants have caused both massive weight loss and massive weight gain?

That's what it seems like for me.

In April 2014 I dropped Wellbutrin from 300mg to 150. From 2012 to December 2015 I tapered Zoloft from 200mg to 25. I've held those dosages ever since.

By fall of 2016 I had lost 20 pounds.

By April 2019 I had gained back the 20 and added 20 more.

So now I'm at my highest weight in 15 years, worse than any other time except the terrible time right after my mom died.

It's hard to see a reason for this as my diet and activity levels haven't changed that drastically. It's all pretty unprecedented in my life.

Could this somehow be explained by reducing the antidepressants?

Zoloft is known to cause weight gain, and Wellbutrin is known to cause weight loss. Perhaps by reducing both of these, I've caused their opposite effects, weight loss from reducing the Zoloft, and weight gain from reducing the Wellbutrin?

Sadly, the weight loss effect has been completely overwhelmed by whatever  has now caused me to gain weight!

It makes me hesitant to further reduce the Wellbutrin, since I am now at an unhealthy weight already and would not be well-served by adding an additional 20 pounds.

I also have definitely been more depressed since reducing these drugs. It came on slowly but it's hard to deny now. And being depressed and feeling fatigued can all add to the weight gain in and of themselves.

Anyway, I'd love to get back to the 170 I was at instead of the 210 I'm now struggling against!

Would love to hear people's thoughts.

KEY: Drug @CurrentDoseMaxDose (time span). Details.
Prozac @4040 (2020-present). Replaced 50mg Zoloft with 10, then 20, then 40mg Prozac starting Sep 2020. I was not doing well at 25mg Zoloft, 150mg Wellbutrin XL. So, to try something new, I switched to Prozac. I am definitely more stable on this dose. Nevertheless, issues with insomnia, and worries about bone strength, make me wish to try a taper again sometime.

Zoloft @0250 (1998-2020). 250mg most of the time. Starting Spring of 2009, tapered by 25mg steps down to 25mg/day by Oct 2010. Emotional crisis prompted return to 200mg by end of 2010. Reduced to 150mg in Sep 2012. Dropped to 125mg 1 April 2013. Dropped to 100mg around 1 June 2013. Dropped to 90mg 5 Dec 2014. @80mg 5 Jan 2015. @70mg 5 Feb 2015. @60mg 5 Mar 2015. @50mg 5 Apr 2015. @45mg 7 Sep 2015. @40mg 5 Oct 2015. @35mg 1 Nov 2015. @30mg 1 Dec 2015. @25mg 29 Dec 2015. @50mg Nov or Dec 2019. Transitioned to Prozac Sep 2020.
Wellbutrin XL @150300 (2004-2020). Started at 150mg, quickly ramped up to 300mg. Dropped to 150mg in summer of 2010. Emotional crisis prompted return to 300mg by end of 2010. Dropped to 150mg 9 Apr 2014. Tried going back to 300 1 Apr 2020; feared it was harming my memory and so cold-turkeyed off 1 May 2020.
Klonopin @01 (1998-2005).
Paxil (1997-1998).

Topic title:  Sudden weight loss

I’ve been at this over a year now. Things have come and gone. A lot of it seems to have eased for the time being. I’m hopeful but I know I’m not there yet.

I’ve noticed I lost a considerable amount of weight within the last week or two. I’m starting to look like how I did when I was a teenager. I had a tad of belly flab after I was about 22, it’s dropped considerably this month.

Only changes I have made (over the summer) were are a lot of walking and a lot of plain bottled water (Which I stopped drinking when I was about 20) I started guzzling a certain brand of bottled water that I had not touched in years sometime in July. This replaced the diet soda I was drinking (I cut all caffeine after 1PM to help with sleep)

I would guess these changes are the cause of some of it, but I’m just worried because this is so sudden it seems. Can the withdrawal suddenly effect metabolism? I know there were periods of time during this when I was having more libido. Like the weight loss, it was the highest since I was a teenager. That has since dropped back off.

You were drinking diet soda until recently? I just read somewhere that it is actually associated with weight gain. If you've eliminated it, could that account for it?

2005 St John's Wort / 2006-2012 Lexapro 20mg, 2 failed attempts to stop, tapered over 4.5 months in early 2012

January 2013 started Sertraline, over time worked up to 100mg

July 2014 Sertraline dropped from 100mg to 75mg, held for six months, slower tapering until 2019 22 Dec 3.2mg

2020 Sertraline 19 Jan 3.1mg, 26 Jan 3.0mg; 1 Mar 2.9, 7 Mar 2.8, May (some drops here) 24 May 2.5, May 29 2.4, June 21 2.3, June 28 2.2mg,  July 4 2.1mg, July 24 (or maybe a bit before) 2mg, early Nov switched to home made suspension; 29 Nov 1.8mg; approx 25 Dec 1.6mg)

2021 Some time in about Jan/Feb realised probably on more like 1.8mg and poss mixing error in making suspension; doses after 10 Feb accurate; 10 Feb 1.6mg; 7 Mar 1.4, continued monthly

10% drops until 1mg, then dropped 0.1mg monthly.

May 2022,0.1mg, now dropping 0.01mg per week

29 August 2022 - first day of zero!

When I was 20, in 2007 I was at the peak of the OCD (This was before I had even seen the psychiatrist) I went from Sprite to Diet Pepsi. It was all we had. Diet Pepsi was my favorite when I was a child, so that was not a big deal. It didn’t seem to change my weight at the time.

Water was my drink of choice in high school. So much in fact that it triggered kidney stones to pass on a seemingly regular basis. I’m feeling that back pain this morning as well for the first time in awhile (Go figure)

Sorry for starting another thread again when I should have researched. I keep forgetting repeatedly. It’s frustrating.

I gained a lot of weight while on AD's.  I've lost it in the past 2 years.  During my taper I also went to a weight loss group and achieved my goal weight last November.  However, since my last dose reduction on Sept 16, my appetite has increased!  I've heard of people having loss of appetite during AD WD, but not an increase in appetite. This morning I ate a healthy well balanced breakfast and lunch, and I'm hungry in 2 or 3 hours.  I really don't want to put the weight back on, but I don't want to go hungry, either.  Anyone else have this experience?  Would it help to reduce carbs, and increase fat and protein?

breakfast was ambrosia salad(coconut, mandarin oranges, pineapple, cool whip) greek yogurt, and a whole grain banana nut muffin

lunch was leftover meatloaf, homemade mashed potatoes (about 3/4 cup), 1.5 cups watermelon, and a green salad

I also took a slow 70 minute walk outside.

Please do not private message me.  Only tag me for urgent questions about tapering and reinstating - thank you.

That's what it seems like for me.

I haven't had "massive" changes (recently) but lost a lot of weight immediately after going off Lexapro and then a long period of slowly losing weight when I didn't want to. I would eat all I wanted, then eat MORE until I was eating all I was able to, and I still had trouble maintaining. this past summer was 1 year off Lexapro.

this fall I moved to Oregon and it's like someone flipped a switch:  I gained 10 pounds quickly and while the anxiety is much less intense, I now have depression.

my feeling is that I absolutely had weight loss from going off Lexapro - no doubt - but I also had it from anxiety.

and now I'm having weight gain from depression.

so now I have to learn to deal with that, really for the first time since being off Lexapro.

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

Duloxetine has had an effect on my weight (as have other CNS and ADs I have taken and currently take).

"Duloxetine-treated patients experienced weight loss after short-term treatment, followed by modest weight gain on longer-term treatment." I would say this has generally been true in my case.

Following my abrupt discontinuation in December 2018, I had extremely high anxiety and panic and inappetance. I lost 5# in less than a month ( that I didn't intend to lose).  I was having trouble eating enough. I wasn't hungry even though my body needed energy. Getting 1700 calories was hard.  Only by deliberately eating high and empty calorie foods did I gain the weight back.

Following that I have  my appetite has gone from being ravenous to craving carbs to inappetance. I have not been documenting what I am eating (and how much) because it makes me anxious. I threw out my scale. It caused more anxiety than was useful. :) So I go by how my clothes fit and how chubby I am around the middle!

Note that duloxetine causes elevated blood glucose levels - demonstrated on a clinical trial with patients taking duloxetine for pain management. This may affect weight. Other ADs may as well.

About weight and ADs:

Excerpted from "Effects of the Antidepressant Duloxetine on Body Weight: Analyses of 10 Clinical Studies" - link below for weight changes associated with various ADs.

Many antidepressants affect body weight. Weight gain, in particular, may lead to patient dissatisfaction, noncompliance, and eventual discontinuation of therapy.1 The tricyclic antidepressants are commonly associated with weight gain that can be disturbing to patients and may interfere with patients' willingness to continue long-term maintenance treatment.2 Conversely, the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) fluoxetine3,4 and sertraline5 and the dopamine reuptake inhibitor bupropion5 are associated with short-term weight loss. In the long term, patients treated with fluoxetine tend to regain their weight after experiencing an initial short-term weight loss.6 Another SSRI, paroxetine, is associated with long-term weight gain,7 whereas bupropion may induce long-term weight loss.8 Sibutramine, a monoamine re-uptake inhibitor of norepinephrine (NE) and serotonin (5-HT)9 that was initially studied as an antidepressant, is used as an anti-obesity agent to induce weight loss.10,11

I'm sorry no one responded.    Just speculating here, but I've read there is a strong gut connection to CNS so it stands to reason you your change in metabolism could be related to withdrawal.  As you say 31 days is not a long time.  Now with more time passed, I hope things turned around for you.

1991- 1999          Prozac, then Zoloft

1999- present      Celexa 20mg, 6/2019 increased to 40mg

1999- present      Wellbutrin (bupropion SR), reduced from 200mg to 100mg SR

1/2019-present   Buspar (buspirone) 20mg; 6/2019 increased to 40mg

4/2018-6/2019   Ativan 1mg; 6/2019 switched to Klonopin

6/2019-9/2019   Klonopin 1mg; 5 week taper

1/2020                 plan slow taper off bupropion; then taper doses of Celexa and buspirone.

11/2019 added magnesium and increased fish oil

Does anyone out there have (recurring) anxiety triggers around food?

I find that in WD I may be more susceptible to these extremes.

I've been able to summarize (as best as possible) in the following way:

  • Weight management. Gaining weight has started an upward trajectory that quickly adds on pounds. The weight gain drives anxiety that can drive inappetance ---and
  • Inappetance - which I've had before - is scary when you  find the thought, smell or sight of food very unattractive. It's like having an anxiety attack - you can't simply tell yourself to relax and eat.  It is completely irrational. And then you're back to eating anything to stabilize your weight.
  • Anxiety about losing weight. Am I eating enough.
  • Healthy eating: In addition to getting the right amount of calories - I want to ensure I get the right nutrients (i.e., 30 g fiber, for example).

These things will trigger high levels of anxiety, heart pounding, feeling ill at ease.

I just want to stay the same size (whether it means gaining 2# and then taking 2# off to stay at my size without getting anxious about it....).

Hi all - I'm hoping I'm posting this question in the right place! I don't seem to be able to get any replies to this wherever I've asked elsewhere, but I'm trying again 😊

As with the vast majority of people I have put on a huge amount of weight while taking Mirtazapine. I'd been a size 8 or 10 my whole life, so to go up to a size 16 has been really demoralising and it's the primary reason why I'm so keen to come off the drug - I don't feel I can really be myself this way. This is 100% not through a change in eating habits, because I've always been quite 'aware' of what I eat, and I'm eating no differently. I can only guess that the suggestions are true and the drug affects the way you store and metabolize fat.

I'm now down to 4.95mg on a slow 10% taper. My question to anyone out there who has successfully tapered off Mirt or is in the low stages, is at what point did you start to lose the weight? Is it only when you completely come off it, or when you got down to say 2mg did it start to shift? Because I'm going to slow down the taper in the late spring when I get to the really low doses, the thought of my weight staying like this for another year no matter what I eat or how much I exercise, is too much to bear.

I noticed very recently that my sleep has suddenly switched back to pre-medication normal - ie. I'm not sleeping 10 hours every night like I was on Mirt, but back to my normal (outside of severe insomnia episodes) of 7.5 hours a night. I guess this is because I'm getting to a lower dose and it's not drugging me up, which I feel is a really positive sign and I feel so much better for it... but still none of the weight has begun to shift and every day I feel grotesque. You can physically see the masses of accumulated dimply fat under my skin and aside from vanity, it cannot be healthy!

I would love to hear any feedback of anyone's experiences with their weight and tapering off, and when they started to lose it. Thank you xx

I know the feeling, my weight has shot up......I'm going to have to join a weight loss group.

Its not healthy to be overweight at any age, but certainly from middle-age upwards its more risky.

Also, I find IBS "episodes" cause unprecedented weight gain, as the food doesn't move through the gut normally.  The gut becomes "spastic", and then there is the bloating, and/or diahrreah/constipation, A LOT of gas, and one feels like a beach ball!

Just have to battle on....keep on truck'in.

Thanks @Junglechicken for the reply. What are you taking right now, if you don't mind me asking? The difficulty is that I'm not eating unhealthily. "Yeah right!" people might say, but I know for a fact (because I track, have always tracked) that I'm eating exactly what I was before taking the Mirt and have always been a size 8 to 10. So short of literally starving myself to the point of not being able to lead a normal/healthy life, there is nothing I can do about it. It's really hard! I'm just praying that as I start to get towards the lower doses (eg 2mg) that the weight might start to come off, but I would really like to hear from others who have tapered what their experiences were.

It's been over 12 months since I used Luvox (Fluvoxamine) for a mere 4 weeks for my anxiety. During this time, seemingly all my lean muscle mass turned to fat - arms, chest, legs, everywhere. I actually lost weight from this ordeal because as we all know muscle weighs more than fat.

Through exercise I have since been able to regain some of my muscle, but it is somewhat swollen, soft and pudgy and I still have excess fat in the same areas that doesn''t seem to budge. Keep in mind that I am not overweight by any stretch.

This is extremely frustrating and I am wondering if my body will ever return to normal. I have had numerous blood tests and nothing that has been tested for is abnormal, but something truly feels out of balance. I wonder if muscle rheumatologist may have some ideas because I am out of them.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this and able to offer any advice?

Thank you

I was taking Sertraline 100MG for about 8 months and in the last month or two I started to put on weight.

I stopped taking it cold turkey and now the weight won't seem to budge. I don't even eat a lot of calories and I exercise fairly regularly. My routine hasn't changed much in that regard, infact I used to be able to pig out on a lot of food prior to sertraline and in the first few months of taking it and have no weight gain from it. Even if I did get slight weight gain it was easily resolved by hitting the gym harder the next day and reducing my calorie intake.

The scary thing about this 20 pounds I've gained is it seems resistant to any efforts I make to reduce my weight. I try exercising more intensely and reducing carbs and reducing overall calories. I've tried intermittent fasting. None of it seems to have any effect. It's not the only withdrawal symptom I've had I've been plagued with a host of issues since stopping so I can't say I am surprised.... I just hope this resolves itself at some point.

EDIT: I might add it's been 5 months since my last dose. And I've been steadily gaining weight since.

I can't do any dairy right now and am trying to see what foods I can tolerate.

No dgl because its a dao enzyme blocker.. I'm struggling with some histamine issues as well

Hi,

How are you now? Have your GI issues subsided as it's now been 5 yrs?

I turn 46 this year, and out-of-the-blue horrible GI issues kicked off last week.

Were they WD related and/or peri-meno/menopause?

I suspect mine are a combination of both, and I am 18 months off Lexapro, and I had the coil fitted beginning Aug last year.

I'm really struggling with weight loss.

The gut issues and mirena coil (between them), are getting in the way of steady weight loss.

Considering having the coil removed as I think it has contributed to my gut problems.

As a footnote, whilst on Lexapro, I gained 3Ibs a week for the 1.6 months I was at full dose.

I had pretty much stopped eating before being medicated.  Even the doctor commented on how skinny I had become.  My weight dropped below 9st.

Same thing happened when we returned to the UK.  Stopped eating due to stress and akathesia.  Weight dropped below 9st.

Now I cannot lose it all!

Hello Jungle Chicken,

I'm sorry your having trouble losing weight. It came on and it can and will come off!

Weight management is frustrating. I didn't read your thread because I don't have time. I want to a) support and b) maybe give you some helpful ideas.

First, mine has gone up and down since a teen-ager. Part of this is because I have taken medications for which weight gain is a side effect. On depakote I gained about 15 pounds that I could not take off until I stopped the medication. Lamotrigine which I take in high dosages may affect weight in thre reverse way and I have periods/days when food is unappealing and I have anxiety about am I eating enough, am I eating the right things, etc. Am I eating too much? Eke. I have just tried to relax a bout it now and evaluate how clothes fit, etc.

Between that time and 2018 - my weight has gone up and down -  due to food intake and medications.  From mid- July 2018 to early Dec 2018 I lost more than 25#. In Jan-Feb I lost about 4-5#. How I did this /circumstances below:

Losing 25#: I did this by cutting calories back to about 1200  a day. I exercised every day. I accomplished this in about 4 months. I wrote everything down - including portion size and calories (duh). This was too fast. 1400 cal would have been better.

The  next 4-5# were  unintentional.  I did this by eating a low carbohydrate/high fiber diet (following medical advice to reduce blood sugar. At the same time I had CT'd from cymbalta/duloxertine so my anxiety increased!    I at this time weighed about 118#. MD advisedc me not to lose anothere pound.  When you increase your fiber and eliminate added sugar and products that are not whole grains - you will naturally lose weight. MD freaked out.

That all being said I have gained about 5# back because of eating more. Appetite still fluctuates and I am still anxoius about. I have to lose about 2# now - and can do so by cutting out refined carbs (and getting less caloreis). MD scale is wrong. It says I weigh 118-119 but I think I am cloesr to 120.

I'm sorry your having trouble losing weight. It came on and it can and will come off!

Hugs,

G.

Thanks G,

Your support is much appreciated!!

I have read many accounts of women who had the coil fitted, and experienced GI issues and weight gain.  When they had it removed, the weight fell off very quickly with little effort.

The diets you mention are worth trying as well, so thank you for your input.

I'll be relieved to find out what's going on in my gut.  Today has been a "good" day, amazingly.

Bye for now,

JC

Hi JC,

Interesting about the coil. Does it take time for your body to adjust I wonder? I have no idea how it impacts hormone balance/imbalance.

You are most welcome re: food intake.  If you want more info - it's free! 😉

As with any medication, there are always side effects.  Some people are affected more than others....ring any bells?!?

The coil deposits a tiny dose of hormone into the lining of the womb on a daily basis.  The result being very light to no periods.

Anyway, enough said on that, but I think it's partially to blame for my weight loss issues.

  • 1 month later...

@RickyC,

Hi, I’m so sorry that no one has gotten back to you.

I’ve seen this mentioned a fair amount over the site, if you search for ‘muscle atrophy’ you should be able to find some people with your problem.

How are you doing now?

Icip.

Early September 2019 - One 25mg dose of Sertraline taken.

Early October 2019 - Five 25mg doses (pills) of Sertraline taken for five consecutive days.

Withdrawal/reaction happened on the 27th of October (2019) in the evening.

Symptoms that have gone: Joint and muscle pain/weakness in my legs, phantom senses, chemical dread, chemical fear, DP/DR has gotten a lot lot better than what it is now, it was one of my worst and all-encompassing symptoms when it started, awful aphasia, parkinsonism, head pressure, pressure in my frontal lobe when trying to think/work out something, inability to plan or execute anything//feelings of being literally scatterbrained, inability to think in my head other than slight acknowledgements - the voice in my head sounded weak and 'small' like it was restrained to a much smaller area of my brain, constant fatigue, emotional numbness, constant eyestrain, and changes in perception of colour/contrast in sight.

Main remaining symptoms: Visual Snow/HPPD, derealisation, tinnitus, and brain/cog fog.

Drug free.

  • 5 months later...

18 months later, the situation has improved, but my muscles are still pudgy and bloated and I feel depressed about how I look and feel now. I recently went to a muscle neurologist and had nerve conduction testing, blood tests and an MRI. Apparently, everything is normal! It's so frustrating that these sorts of things can happen and then you can't get any answers!  I think I am stuck in my new body now :(.
