Moderator Emeritus ChessieCat Posted January 12, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) Hi jaybehere and welcome SA, It sounds like you might be very sensitive to the antidepressants. Are you currently taking or have previously taken psychiatric drugs, marijuana or other psychoactive drugs? jaybehere Posted January 12, 2019 Author Posted January 12, 2019 15-20 years ago prozac, got energized, argumentative stopped after a week, felt poisoned. i use marijuana daily but am questioning the wisdom of this but think i have gotten myself addicted to it.that is part of the motivation to take an antidepressant
Moderator Emeritus ChessieCat Posted January 12, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted January 12, 2019 It definitely sounds like you and antidepressants don't mix. My suggestion would be to not take any more and to stay away from them completely in the future. If you try something else you may end up having an a very bad adverse reaction and it could take you many years to recover. It's just not worth it. Going on and off and on and off psychoactive drugs bounces the brain around (the brain likes stability) and the effective is cumulative. So something that didn't cause any problems before, may cause problems in the future. It only takes about 1 month for the brain to adapt to someone taking an antidepressant. Once that happens the drug needs to be tapered to keep withdrawal to a minimum. If you think you are addicted to marijuana, I would suggest finding appropriate assistance to help you get off, eg narcotics anonymous, if that is what you want to do. I'm sure that there would be support groups on the internet too. If they've been kept on the drugs for a long time, often with the aid of a benzo, their nervous systems are quite distressed. * NO LONGER ACTIVE on SA * MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: (6 year taper) 0mg Pristiq on 13th November 2021 ADs since ~1992: 25+ years - 1 unknown, Prozac (muscle weakness), Zoloft; citalopram (pooped out) CTed (very sick for 2.5 wks a few months after); Pristiq: 50mg 2012, 100mg beg 2013 (Serotonin Toxicity) Tapering from Oct 2015 - 13 Nov 2021 LAST DOSE 0.0025mg Post 0 updates start here My tapering program My Intro (goes to tapering graph) VIDEO: Antidepressant Withdrawal Syndrome and its Management
