10Rubydoo: memory problems after sertraline withdrawal

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with their short term memory since coming off antidepressants? I was taking Sertraline for depression for nine years and came off them June 2018. My recall memory is awful at the moment. It's quite embarrassing when I'm having conversations, as I keep having to stop what I'm saying to search my memory, for say, a name of a book, or the name of a person in a book, or to recall something I've read or heard somewhere. I've never had memory problems before. I'm just wondering if this is something other people have experienced - is this normal? If anyone can point me to some literature to read I would appreciate it.

Hi Rubydoo and welcome to SA,

Yes, memory problems are common amongst members here.  Being on a psychiatric drug can cause it, getting off the drug too quickly can cause it and even during a taper following SA's protocol of no more than 10% of current dose followed by a hold of about 4 weeks, members can experience brain fog and poor memory.  I've noticed recently that my memory has started to improve.

The only supplements which SA recommends are Magnesium and  Omega-3 Fish Oil.  Try a small amount one at a time.
