CharlieZ Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Should I feel bad that tapering the standard 10% a month is too fast for me? I just recently got off lexapro about 7 months ago and am now tapering off my Valium and trying to do 10% a month at the low dose I’m down to and it’s gotten much harder for me. Is there anyone here tapering 5% a month? Is it easier for you? and I’ve read a lot on here about the importance of holding even when micro tapering. Thoufhts ? Thank you! Klonopin for 12 years On and off lexapro multiple times Valium since October of 2015 Finished Lexapro taper 9-15-18 Re-started Valium taper 2-15-19 current dose of Valium - 3.56mg (4-16-19)
Moderator Emeritus Shep Posted April 17, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted April 17, 2019 Hi, Charlie. Welcome to SA. Is Valium the only drug you're taking? Have you been on any other benzos in the past? If so, we recommend going slower than 10% a month, as you may be dealing with kindling. Kindling (sedative–hypnotic withdrawal) Kindling can also be caused by SSRI withdrawal which also affects the central nervous system, so your nervous system may be especially sensitive right now and a more gentler taper rate may be best. Some of your symptoms while tapering Valium may also be Lexapro waves, as benzo and SSRI discontinuation are very similar and both have a lot of waves and windows. Include drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements in the last 12-24 months. Also include supplements. This will help us give you the most accurate advice we can. Any drugs and supplements prior to 24 months ago can just be listed with start and stop years. Please use actual dates or approximate dates (mid-June, Late October) rather than relative time frames (last week, 3 months ago) Spell out months, e.g. "October" or "Oct."; 9/1/2016 can be interpreted as Jan. 9, 2016 or Sept. 1, 2016. Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses. A list is easier to understand than one or multiple paragraphs. This is a direct link to your signature: Account Settings – Create or Edit a signature. Please continue to use this thread to document your taper and to ask plenty of questions. What kind of symptoms are you having? How is your sleep?
Moderator Emeritus Carmie Posted April 21, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted April 21, 2019 Hi CharlieZ, There are a lot of people that can’t taper at 10%. I’m actually tapering just under 4% at the moment. I still go through lots of waves though because my brain is so sensitised from all the meds I’ve been put on and off. Could you please answer Shep’s questions and put in your drug signature. Thanks a lot. How are your symptoms at the moment?
